You might want to read the whole paragraph next time instead of just a portion of a sentence. If you had kept reading, you would have seen that the Process Agreement also requires all current CBAs, LOA, MOUs, System Board Awards, etc. to be exchanged.

Would it be OK if Southwest passed a new CBA tomorrow with a 50% pay increase? Would that hold water with the arbitor? Would he care?

I think he probably would rely more on what was going on when the deal was announced, and maybe realize that the Airtran deal was done quickly after the announcement. It wasn't done in a vacuum, with no SW deal on the table.

Sorry to disappoint you, but there were only two sections still open (out of 20) at the time the deal was announced.

Btw, I got a whopping 8% raise. I'm sure the Arbitrator will be impressed how we dragged the ball over the finish line.

It's not an ALPA attorney.

It's 4 line pilots who will have to work the rest of their career in the combined airline. They're not getting some crazy ALPA super-secret fund to retire on or getting jobs in Herndon; they'll be going back to the line when it's all done.

I agree with who will "be in the room". 9 SWA/AAI pilots. However... Go back and check out what happened with Muse/Trans Star. Those guys were given a good deal. The MUSE/TS NC agreed to the deal and then ALPA national put the kibosh on it. This ended up affecting the MUSE/TS pilots quite a bit but didn't matter at all to ALPA. SOP for the brain trust in Herndon.

I'd be interested to hear from one of the actual Muse/Transtar guys whether it was ALPA National or the MEC that put the kibosh on it... Historically, ALPA National has only squashed one negotiated SLI deal in their entire history, and I'm not sure who it is... might be the Muse/Transtar deal, I just don't know enough about the specifics; there's not really an independent 3rd party review of what happened out there to read.

Not saying it didn't happen then or couldn't happen here, but I somewhat doubt it with us, given our MC's stated goal to the pilot group: "Any SLI deal will stand on its own". Meaning if we get a negotiated deal and that promise holds true, there shouldn't be any valid reason for National to nix it.

I actually discussed such a situation with our MC about three weeks ago (I questioned under what circumstances would ALPA National not allow the negotiated SLI to be ratified). That's where I was told it's only happened once in ALPA history and wasn't likely to be a factor here since wholesale stapling of large segments of the seniority list isn't on the table for discussion.

Wish there was a Transtar/Muse person to chat with about it. Not saying anyone here doesn't think they're posting what really happened, but the people who were living the event first-hand often have a unique perspective, and I'd like to hear it...

There won't be any on here but the big picture was: Transtar was offered DOH with some ratios and limited seat protection after a couple of years of negoitiating. They turned it down. SWA was tired of the negoitiations and got rid of them. Nothing more to see.
