ALPA was not paying my mortgage and our only choice was to have our flying be given to the same idiots who are saying we should "hold the line". The issue of this new contract is not on our backs, but on ALPA national and the mainline carrier who forced it on us. Good luck to the United regional carriers. You are next. Ummm, used MD90s are now going for $8-9 million each, including the engines. You could get 4 of those for the price of one new CR9. Management supposedly likes them for the efficiency and the performance of the MD90 is a lot like the 737-800, at a fraction of the cost.

What OhPlease doesn't seem to understand is that there is now a RATIO included in the new contract that keeps mainline flying growing, while keeping regional flying at a smaller percentage. That wasn't in any of the other contracts. Also, there are EXACT numbers of permitted RJs (of each size), and the overall number HAS TO DECREASE. Also, the new 76 seaters are tied in to the number of 717s the company gets. If the 717s aren't delivered, the new 76 seaters aren't either. I'd say that is a WIN for mainline, and the supposed 1000 new jobs coming in 2014-2015 due to the 88 717s plus 10 or so more MD90s is a WIN for people who want to go to mainline.

Boeing Bargains With Delta for a Billion-Dollar Deal

Already juggling tenuous contract negotiations with a labor union and the ongoing investigation into lithium-ion batteries aboard its 787 Dreamliner, Boeingis engaged in talks with Delta over an order for as many as 30 aircraft.

People familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that as part of a fleet-overhaul initiative, Delta, the world’s second-largest airline, is evaluating whether it wants to replace some of its 50-seat aircraft with the Boeing 737 or the Airbus A320. Both planes are a rung below the Dreamliner in the hierarchy of aircraft, but have been the backbone of the industry for years.

Estimates put the size of the deal at about $1 billion, a deep discount to the nearly $3 billion listed retail value for an order this large. Boeing may be willing to offer steeper discounts in light of all the bad mojo the company has accumulated over the past few weeks because of the Dreamliner battery fiasco. In 2012, for the first time in a decade, Boeing out-delivered its European rival. The company highlighted its victory with an initiative to double its Dreamliner production capacity, but with fleets grounded for a week already, Boeing’s ambitions have been complicated…

You're right, check out DL possibly buying 24-30 737s or A320s for around $1 billion! (and trying to trade in more 50 seaters) What you don't seem to understand yet is that the only place you can change a contract is in BK, ask the PNCL guys. DL is nowhere close to that now, not saying it couldn't happen again, but thanks to consolidation and new ancilary revenue from bag and change fees ($2.5 Billion last year alone, and those fees were not around prior to DL and UA BKs), it is a bit unlikely. The three legacies are all getting stronger to compete on the World stage.

Soooooooooooo, the contract seems to be more and more solid, and that affects you personally, which makes you upset. Please come up with an example of how you think the "ironclad contracts" could possibly be changed. (you probably can't other than a BK) Well, if you want, you can apply to all 3 majors soon and try to upgrade your pay and benefits. I personally hope a lot of you get hired at the legacies and move on towards that better pay and benefits, and a chance to try out some different flying. Good luck!

I agree with General, the only way large RJ's grow is when Delta mainline grows. And the percentage of large RJ growth is a pretty small compared to what mainline has to add. Some of the new airplanes are going to be replacements but if Delta wants to grow large RJ's they have to grow the fleet. It's just that simple.
