NETJETS PROFITS DOUBLE!

NetJets, Berkshire's fractional jet ownership business, reported earning $36 million before taxes in the first quarter, which is significantly better than last year's $19 million quarterly pretax loss.

Buffett touted the private jet service, which will be on display at the annual meeting, in his letter to shareholders by making fun of security rules that limit the liquids allowed on commercial planes.

"Come to Omaha by bus; leave in your new plane. And take all the hair gel that you wish on board with you," Buffett wrote.

Um, I'm no math major, but....

1. A $19M loss to $36M profit is not even close to "NETJETS PROFITS DOUBLE!"

2. A quarter happens 4 times a year. If NetJets maintains their $36M profit per quarter then that only comes to $144M for the year. Far short of your quote of $200 - $250M.

Fly safe.

Maybe my math is not my strongest quality, but......

-19 million to +36 million = 55 million.

Looks like more than double to me.

Why pi$$ on the parade?

Thats OK Glass.

I am a Math major.... But I did not use differential equation, multi-dimensional calculus, complex variables, vector calculus, n-space, Fourier transformations, or non-euclidean geometries to arrive at DOUBLE last yrs profits.

I was simply using an approximation by rounding up from 189% to 200%.

Yes there are 4 quarters in a year... and a 189% increase extrapolated over one year for last year's $143M profit would be about $271 MILLION.

1st and 4th quarter profits generally are lower than 2nd and 3rd quarter profits because costs are higher in the first and fourth quarters ... Operational demand.

(bowing) Ahhh...Sensei. Teach me the way of the multi-dimensional calculus. That was in my best Chinese accent, by the way.

Seriously, though. I had seen a post a while back about NJ not wanting to show huge profits for the customer's sake. Was that just a farse, 'cuz if I owned an airplane with a company that was making money, I'd at least know my aircraft, pilots, maintenence...were secure. And from a pilot viewpoint, that's where I'd like to be.

Turkey on wheat for B, L and Dinner. Hell of a choice.
The last quarter menu was pretty good, a lot more choices than the current one, they just can't stop fixing the things that arn't broke.

C'mon, the BBQ samplers I've gotten have been great. I think we found something even Rudy's can put together right!
