Yes it does.

A $55M improvement in the 1st quarter. Plus last yrs $143M = $198M... any improvement in the remaining 3 quarters puts us in the $200 to $250M profit range. But I am not predicting $250 to $300 millions.

I was simply using an approximation by rounding up from 189% to 200%.

Yes there are 4 quarters in a year... and a 189% increase extrapolated over one year for last year's $143M profit would be about $271 MILLION.

By dog.... I did not notice the $19 Million was a 2006 loss!

That is a $55 Million improvement.

If I add the $55M improvement to to the $143M we made last yr... We are well on the way to $200 - $250 M in profit for 2007.

I may have to revise up to $250 -$300 Million.

The first quarter results are encouraging, especially since the first three months are among our most challenging of the year.

Before you fall all over yourself counting those profits however, you should understand how they were achieved and what it would take to improve materially on last years results.

The improved profit picture for the first quarter was driven almost entirely by the improved utilization of the aircraft and subsequent reduced sold off flights. Our utility in the first quarter of 2006, while improved over 2005, was significantly below the rest of 2006. The 2007 1st quarter rate was about equal to what we saw in the last three quarters of 2006, which means we should expect to see the same performance over the last three quarters.

This would put our full year performance in the $175-$200M range.

Anything above that level would require further improvements in the utility rate.

Of course, there are a lot of things that could affect this projected performance, so I wouldnt get too excited about it yet...Diesel calling in fatigued 3 times on one tour for example...

And folks this is a classic example of management making a snide little comment so you second guess yourself before using the F word. They claim it doesn't happen but you've just seen it does.

I'd be happy to explain my tour if anyone cared. Funny how the other true pilots understood how tough our flying can be on the body.

And Diesel or any other pilot will call in Fatigue and/or DNIF anytime they deem it necessary. It is their CBA right and it is healthy for them to do so rather than come to work infect co-workers/Owners or auger it in because they were too tired.

I am sick and tired though... of your single-sided agenda.

It seems to me that one of the largerst impediments to NJA success is the draconian attitude that you spew. The sooner you figure out that pilots are part of the solution, the better we will all be.

Its thinking like that... that produces statements like "there is no money for pilot raises."

If we do not make $250M ... Heads should roll.

Yes, we made about $198M over the last 4 quarters. However, my point is that if you want to improve on that then there needs to be improvements in the operation. The first quarter utility matched the last three quarters of 2006, so we can reasonably expect to make the same amount over the next 3 quarters as we did last year.

If you want more than that then you have to either improve utility over last year or cut costs, something I havent seen demonstrated yet.

Your statement that you would fire any manager that said $175M (aka shoot the messenger) just shows that you're shortsighted and probably better off in a non-managerial or executive role.

As for fatigue calls, I would never advocate that anyone fly sick or tired.

However, if a pilot has three fatigue calls in one tour then I'd suggest he may have a medical issue that needs to get checked out or he should stay away from the titty bars.

Ahhh yes a little comment here a little comment there. Nothing like mgmt who was a pilot long ago thinking they know what happens on the road today.

I was thinking of posting my sched showing that i went from all night to all day to all night to all day... with 10hr turns. Then I decided who cares making snide little comments is all you really can do.

Fatigue is not only for a middle of the scheduled work day. When your crew hasn't had enough rest. (sleep deficit) it si our ability to make sure we get more than a min turn and keep everyone in the loop as to why.

Nope its much easier to make comments and remarks instead of dealing with the problems that humans aren't robots and this isn't the deck of the northwestern. After you lose a few friends from trying to shave a couple of minutes here just to get home, or how slow your reactions are when you are pushed for 10hr turns at every hotel rest you'd understand the human factors. Nope flying the line 10 years ago before the X even came on property makes you an expert in todays operation. RIiiight.

Sadly you'll see someone like familyguy in mgmt say they abhor seeing someone fly fatigued or sick, but in the next sentence say there must be something wrong with them if they call in fatigued or sick.

At least its predictable.
