I'm afraid Tanker Clown has had it in for me since I beat him in Monopoly, slept with his wife, and shot his dog.

Good thing he's not a Marine or he would have shot the Monopoly game, beat your wife, then slept with your dog.:)

For all our sakes I hope this merger speculation is just to drive up the stock prices. Any merger will be a terrible deal for the employees and a bonaza for the hedge funds. I don't buy the argument that if a large merger occurs the other companies have to follow. I'd love to see my company remain independent and nimble while any merged behemoths try to turn the Titanic around.

Northwest-Delta.
United-US Airways.
American-British Airways.
Southwest-AirTran
Continental-Spirit

That's my predictions. And yes, I did stay at Holiday Inn last night.
Folks, no need to bash this guys predictions. With oil at $91.86 a barel and heading toward $100 dollars, consolidation IS coming. The airlines are relatively healthy. Everyone take a moment and study every airline and their third quarter numbers. The legacies all have cash and know they have to control pricing in this global economy. Like every other industry (oil, banking, phone, insurance) the big boys start buying the small guy to control pricing and keep their profits. Now that the airlines have mostly fixed their books, they will now begin the consolidation period. It is a natural progression that is sure to come! Now my predictions, and just a prediction:

1.Northwest and Delta......looks like they may be talking.

2. Jetblue, Spirit, and Frontier to become the new Virgin America...linked with Virgin, route structure and common fleet, would make this a natural.

3. Continental and Alaska....With Continental's pacific routes and not much west coast and common fleet, this would be a natural fit.

4. US Airways and America West....they continue to try to make it work.

5. United and AirTran Airways.....If US Airways is too much because of antitrust issues, AirTran may fit.(Smaller AirTran today resembles US Airways in route structure in 2000 when United attempted to buy US Airways then (minus Philly and Pit)....United wants a southern hub and a East Coast presence. Orlando could be a perfect place to start routes to the carribean, central and south America. They bought these routes from Pan Am and closed them in Miami because of competition with American. Could find Orlando an alternative to Miami.

6. American will strengthen its relationship with British Airways.

7. Southwest...will grow internationally with ATA, World, and North American. May even be an open door in the future to wide bodies and international flights by purchasing these three.

8. Finally, there will always be new entrants, but many will fail in the global economy and open skies.

Just my predictions! What are some of your predictions?

One more thing, with the government all over the airlines about delays and wanting the airlines to cut back on some flights, I doubt they will stop many of these potential mergers. Mergers tend to lead to capacity cuts, so the government would not get in the way.

I hear that the Air Force and Navy flying is going to merge. We are looking to combine our inefficiencies. It will be true synergy. Instead of me wasting one hour in my squadron and a navy guy wasting one hour...now, together, we can waste up to three hours. Only the government can waste our time and money in this way.

What happened to the military's drug testing policy? Seriously dude, cut back on the H and get hooked up with some Prozac and Pamprin.

Also, I think I saw an ad for someone needing a Frasca sim instructor. I think it might be a bit over your head, but if you can instruct half as well as you can spew sh!t on Flight Info, you may be able to last a week or 2 before they fire you.

TC,

Come on man. You're better than that. Get back on the high road and be the professional/officer you should be.

C17D

can't belive I'm stickin up for Tanker Clown, but any tool who refers to himself as a "New Hire x 3" needs to have a coke and a smile and shut the f*** up. Seriously, you represent the epitome of a pompous @ss. EP? who cares. There are dozens of pilots here who have probably been hired 20 times before, and you've done it 3 whole times. You are my hero.

Thanks for sticking up for me 406. I think C-17 Driver is to the AF as General Lee is to Delta and SWA/FO is to Southwest. Looks like the Kool Aid doen't exist exclusively in the 121 carriers. I'm putting my money on him spending a little time as an SOS instructor.
