You wanted a flowthrough with Delta when you were here, and many of us didn't....We would have been the furloughed pilots for those 6 years, instead of the Delta pilots....

tied to that would have been scope that might have mitigated a lot of those furloughs.. sure, not all, as 9/11 was a rare thing.. but to be honest, even in hind sight, I think the flowthru would have taken the wind out of the demand for growth at the regional level and forced growth at the mainline where the money and negotiation power of a larger union is.. today we're stuck with hybrids of what could have been and this economy is only aiding and abetting the bastards that are hell bent on taking advantage of us (pilots) to fatten their wallets.

Lets face it, the money Regional pilots work for, even at the 12 year CA level is disgraceful.. And we've allowed them to do it.. a strange combination of senior pilots at the Regionals along with the senior pilots at the majors (who don't care about the plight of the junior and mainline growth so long as they get their raise!)..

Oh well.. Hope all is well otherwise.. I'm onto furlough #2 myself and ready to return to real estate where I made real money! ..Oh, wait, that's gone too!

Thing is John, the passengers need to fly one way or the other... whether they fly on a 50-70 seat jet on ASA's certificate or a 70-120 seat aircraft on the DAL certificate is more in the hands of the unions and less in the hands of the managers or public... we sold out, we pilots did.. and now we're stuck with this ridiculous two tier system where nobody wins.

I’d like to throw in my two cents…

1st I love politics, my interest, keeps me learning and debating. I must say, these candidates leave a lot to be desired. The democratic party is split and a mess… Someone needs to ask the hard questions. Change?.... Change what? Change, how. I’ve heard nothing. What about experience? How much experience is important.


Think about issues you care about before you cast your vote. Just some tope issues ideas. Aviation careers are important to us that’s for sure, but is it the most important? Families, mine is very important and I don’t want government telling me how to raise my kids. Government gets involved in too much in too many issues. Will my taxes go up? Can people afford it if taxes do go up? Homeowners are strapped now. Health care- how would they accomplish this change? What’s wrong with the current system? Are certain politicians actually trying to fix the system or make a name for themselves with voters? Why are health insurance prices so high? Attorneys? What were certain politicians before they took office? Who do they associate with? Gay marriage, do you want your kids learning about this in their classroom? Gun control, - should you be able to collect them or protect your home? Abortion? Is killing an unborn child ok? The war in Iraq, is it really keeping us safe, the economy, is it the current pres’s fault? Can one person control the economy? Oil prices, is it due to a world market or a local/national market? Again can one person control the price of a barrel of oil? Is it a refining shortage? How about the environment? Should we drill, or spend money on alternative/renewable energy? How about crime? Should we be tough or forgiving? And who all makes money when a crime is committed, or when a lawsuit begins?

Most voters have thought about or learned about these issues. Learn about both sides, make an educated decision. It seems like it could be easy for some to blame one person, or a group.

I understand your quandary, I'm all of the above with the exception of I'm pro-choice and couldn't care less about gay marriage (and it baffles me as to, with all the other problems we need to deal with, how this issue continues to end up in the headlines).

But as to which party? I also feel pretty lost sometimes and sincerely wish/believe that our two-party (which often seems like one) system is lacking. Supposedly this country was founded upon freedom of 'choice' yet our political system sometimes seems one step above an african dictator regime when it comes to election time and choosing only one of two parties (realistically anyway).

Life is full of paradoxes. Smart people embrace paradox.

For those that like to pre-package and pre define how everything is are really only fooling themselves.

For example some one says I never drink Desani bottled water. I only drink Aquafina. Well, how thirsty or dehydrated will one get before they have to break their "moral" code.

The trick is to customize your politics.

If you can't prosper in this country as an airline pilot.. then something is wrong. Well, most if not many Airline Pilots are not prospering. Voting for for the POTUS who will actively work against a career that is regressing is questionable at best.

So vote for the pro pilot, pro career candidate. And then customize your politics. Voice your concerns to your congressmen. Work the issues as they come along.

Let's face it... most people don't for for their congressmen. Most people only vote every four years for POTUS and brush their hands clean....

The rewards of living in the greatest democracy require a higher level of responsibility than the common American accepts.
