AirTran 50th percentile, 650 from bottom of UAL list. Just don't want to go thru another layoff. I will commute either way with either AirTran or UAL. Looks like a very long upgrade at UAL for me. I think my best bet is to stay put for now, unless something changes. Any other guys out there in the same boat?

UALX727, my guess has been that ~70% of furloughees will return. 30% of 2172 = 652. To date, 25 resignations, 2 deaths, 2 age 60 retirements. Leaves ~625 out of ~850 bypassers who will not return.
You're definitely not alone in your decision.
I don't expect more than a very few returns from FedEx, UPS, and Southwest. Probably very few will return from CAL. I had originally expected low return percentage from JBLU, but I think that we'll now see a decent percentage return from there. I don't expect to see many who have been able to ride up the seniority list at AirTran such as yourself to return.

Jetblue; 50% in seniority, 90 Ca (good seniority (bad pay), 320 has gone junior to me).

United; 7600-ish in seniority. Other things I'm considering; have you looked at lowcost schedules? You have to go way up the line holder list (way way up) to find better than 12 days off. Bob Neil said some are able to get the 767 off recall BUT reserve for ever. Of course age 60/65, mergers???

On the other hand 16% into the PDAP, Long call going system wide by summer, LOL much better, massive retirements (starting in 10 years)

I thought that this decision would be quite easy but it is proving to be very difficult for me. I think I will continue to ride the fence until forced to decide.

Here's the latest vacancy bids posted on skynet. This may give you some idea of what the furloughees passed on for the Feb class. My guess is there'll be a lot of DCA 767s given to people on ML or LOA.

Cheers.

Unfortunately, those of us on mil leave have been given an equipment assignment and although we haven't started training, we're in a 3 year freeze...barring those that were the first furloughees and may not have a freeze.

Just extend your leave until the three years are up. Probably easier said than done but who knows. I know this is not the answer you were looking for but the mil leave thing is, overall, a pretty good deal.

Another datapoint for recallees. I just got my assignment. Seniority #8004. Bypassed the Sep 06 class; accepted recall to the 22 Jan 07 class. Will be going on mil leave until June 09 so my assignment was still available to the guy below me in the class. I was approximately #10 in a class of 30.

I got a 767 to DCA. It looks like the initial bypass worked out perfectly for me. :)

assignment

Andy,

How did you get the word? Did BN call, letter or did you get in touch with him?

Guppy
2.5.07 (followed by 90 day leave)

Congrats Andy. I know the company is nervous about putting recallees that haven't flown in 5 years straight into the 767.....will be limited to domestic only for awhile (~250 hrs) until turned loose for international ops.

LOL! :) Which company are you referring to? I don't think that United will care - the union might, but I don't think that you'll get much of a response from the company.
The item that I think you're referring to is in LOA 01-05:

...On March 29, 1995, the parties agreed to not assign new-hire pilots for their initial assignment to wide-body First Officer positions in an international operation. After discussions with ALPA regarding this agreement, the parties have agreed to modify this restriction in Letter 99-08 (Wide-Body First Officer) to the following extent to
allow a new hire to be initially assigned to a B757/767 First Officer position under the following conditions:

1. The new-hire pilot will be assigned to domestic flying until he has performed a minimum of 250 actual hours of flying.

2. The new-hire pilot will not be awarded a lateral to another international B757/767 domicile until he has completed the required 250 actual hours of domestic flying...

IIRC, it was the union (Dubinsky in particular) that didn't want newhires to go to international widebodies.
When I return in Jun 09 (mil leave 'til then), I will not have turned a wheel in almost seven years (Sep 02). Having flown a ton of international ops in my prior military flying, I don't see international flying as an issue. Getting my crosscheck up to speed is another story ... I imagine that I'll be buying my sim partner a LOT of beers.

The SSC brought up safety concerns of putting recallees directly into international ops to Capt Krakowski. He referred to DENTK, and the result is that LOA 01-05 will be applied to recallees.
