WooHoo.... the song "Love is is the air" is playing all over the industry today!
(though the cynical side of me just hopes the "long term" part of the contract accounts for cost of living increases, and a renewal of the exceeding NJ pay stance...Also protection of the union and contract if FLOPS decides to sell to a staunchly non union outfit with a larger percentage of "voting" pilots)

Change Is In the Air:
Flight Options and Pilots’ Union Announce Joint Cooperation

CLEVELAND, Ohio – August 11, 2008 – Flight Options, a leading provider of safe, reliable and luxurious private air travel services, and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 1108 announced today an unprecedented expression of mutual cooperation. Both labor and management have pledged to put their past differences aside and instead dedicate their efforts to achieving common goals.

Kenn Ricci, the chairman of Flight Options, recently joined negotiations with the Flight Options pilots’ union. When asked how his personal involvement will change the focus at the bargaining table, Kenn said, “Our employees are our most precious resource and we recognize that our pilots are the most important part of delivering exemplary safety and service to our customers. As such, we intend to offer our pilots a long-term contract that recognizes them as the best in the industry.”

Captain Mat Slinghoff, the union’s president, when reached at the IBT Local 1108 office said, “We are pleased to join with the Company to express both eagerness and confidence that our first Collective Bargaining Agreement is now within reach. The pilots share Flight Options’ goal of providing unparalleled safety and service to our customers.”

"The Union and Company negotiating teams are working day and night to finalize an agreement that satisfies both the needs of the pilots and the business. I’m confident that bright skies are ahead,” Slinghoff added.

No Flight Options did, and lets not forget about all the others that lost their jobs at the same time.

Now, did the United States begin WWII?

No? The war formally started after the attack, so the US must have been at fault, right?

Consider the invading union to Flight Options the same as an attacking army with Flight Options defending itself. The company doing the firing was defending itself against the invaders. They were bargaining chips, nothing more.

You're such an ignoramus and idiot. If you knew anything about what goes on at FLOPS, you'd know that it was management that was the attacker. Had it not been for 67% of the pilots legally voting in a union, it would be much worse than just illegal firings and management knows it.....part of the reason they rehired was the knowledge that they'd lose yet another big lawsuit and it would have cost them much more in terms of money and bad publicity. Management by intimidation @ FLOPS existed long before the union, dip $hit.

Again, I still don't expect you to reply with anything but abject nonsense.....business as usual.

In your example, the FLOPS D.O.D. shot their own troops.

Any way you spin is, firing those people was an immoral thing to do and should be scorned.

I also wonder where all the scorn is regarding Ricci having been on the property when that all went down? How quickly so many seem to forget it seems on here. MONTHS ago I posted about the "Management by Trust" book (long before the current thread on it) and how he would use his voodoo to come back like the knight on the white horse. Never did I imagine how QUICKLY the Kool-Aid would take effect again (judging from the posts on this board lately). Just like poor horses and slaves, they "break" us so we are thankful for any little scrap they give. Of anyone you know I prefer KR over MS...but lets not all going losing our minds while were getting sprayed with happy gas. cross every t , dot every i in this contract, and remember this Tony Robbins went to law school (allegedly)

!!!

Gee, what a shock. NJW appearing uncaring. In all of these posts not once have you been concerned about any of the other employees that were laid off along with the 70 pilots.

All of them should be brought back, not just the pilots NJW. They were laid off as a direct statement regarding the union activity as bargaining chips.

Have you not mentioned any of the others because in your opinion they didn't invest properly in their careers?

Yes, you appearing uncaring. It's not a matter of "appearing" uncaring. You ARE uncaring.

So, will no one here coment on the 128 non-pilots that lost thier jobs? If so, why not? I'm sure its because they think that these people were of lesser importance in the operation than pilots. My math shows 128 to be more than 70, but all 198 are still people without jobs now. But I guess they are less important because they just schedule our trips, set us up in hotels, maintain our machines, etc...? I know I'm too good to do these things because "I'm a pilot, worship me...."
Typical.

On a separate note; If it is possible, I encourage any pilots that are offered their jobs back to accept the job, get your back pay and quit with no notice.

And what would that prove? Real professional advise there dude. Seems like that's sinking to "management's level of screwing people" right?

Again, typical.

Another attempt to deflect the facts....

Who was it that Fired all these employees? The Flight Options Scheeringa Management or The Union Leadership?

Answer me this....

Your propoganda is becoming weaker every day.

Freedom Is Not Free

Skanza, nothing is stopping all those non-pilot types from organizing and gaining the protections of a union. How many locals do you know of that handle more than one group? 1108 deals with the pilots. Why don't you work towards getting the other employee groups some representation? Oh I forgot-Ford and Harrison doesn't allow double dipping.

not to hijack this thread, but noticed in the cargo section that Gemini is filing for chpt 7. Doesn't HIG own Gemini? Should there be any cause for worry? Just a thought. I certainly hope not!

Obviously it was not the Union Leadership. But my point is that this RIF was done to afford the company the ability to survive the reduction in hrs flown and increase in redemptions and the general poor health of the economy (believe what you want there). You can't blame the Scheeringa Team for *firing* these people or credit the union leadership for not firing them. Niether situations apply here.
No propoganda here, just observations.

That's assuming that a Union would absolutely prevent people from losing thier jobs. If a company is not able to keep the current number of employees due to a decrease in revenue, then a Union mandate of keeping them employed only shortens the amount of time until there is no company for anyone to work for. That's not "protection" to me, that's assisted suicide.

No skanza, it wouldn't be sinking to management's level. If a pilot followed my suggestion, no one in management would have trouble paying their mortgage payment or keeping food on the table. Besides, the company would be financially better off paying back-pay than they would with the payouts on a lawsuit.

That said; Absolutely. This is war! However, I don't expect you to understand anything that has to do with standing up for oneself.

My professional advice to you is to learn the difference between a noun and a verb before you start talking about professionalism.
