Horizon is career suicide. Why? It'll take you 10 years to upgrade. Go somewhere you can get that left seat/1000 hrs PIC quickly and move on.

Or, if you like to gamble with your career, you could come to QX, get your 2000 sic QX time and try to get on at Alaska.

Good to see you're still making friends w the guys who help you commute to work.

This years "suicide" airline is next years prime place to be...

Couldn't have been said better. I rolled the dice and went to a crummy Regional in 1999...looking for that quick upgrade. I got that quick upgrade alright...but 9-11 happened, and I was there about 5 years longer than I expected.

The 3 posts above are AS pilot so I can give you actual info. But the 3 above all have valid points.

F- is right for the people that have been here 10 years and can't hold CA. Sucks.

Capt- it's a gamble - like every regional.

Mookie- right on. That is actually funny.

The current info. 48 - Q400's. They say we are growing and going to add 2 more planes into the schedule in January. There is talk of classes in the Fall. A buddies buddies buddy spoke with the Chief Pilot and said there will be interviews in the end of September. Management is expecting a large amount of attrition in 2012, with AS hiring and other majors. Many people are trying to jump ship.
Other stuff: our pay arbitration is being voted on now with a pay. freeze but we give up a lot more. I voted NO. The company sent to the arbitrator a 5% pay decrease and the Union wants a 2.8% increase for CA and 4% increase for FO's over 2 years.
The moral is dangerous here. I actually can see a large amount of growth if the company wins the arbitration. If the company loses I can see stagnation and no growth except for attrition. Hope this helps

Mook,

I'm not dissin' QX pilots. I'm just stating the facts. There are 10 to 12 year QX pilots who can't hold CA since the jets left.

And you know as well as I do that EVERYTHING about airline life is based on seniority. So you have to get to your major ASAP and start making numbers...or you end up commuting to ANC. Right?

It Mookie, not "mook", d-bag. Nice try, dude.

Hopefully the next generation of AS pilots won't roll over like the previous one did and sell out our scope.

(sorry for the hijack, Qx'ers...)

Mook,

Hopefully you'll take a leadership position in the Union and make that happen. I'll support you all the way. Heck. I'll even be your campaign manager. Council 59 elections are coming up.

Go for it.

I guess I'm not the typical new hire wanna-be. I am finishing up one career and looking towards another, I am familiar with most of the one vs another airline arguments. Currently I fly part-time second seat citation in the NW for a really awesome company, but not much chance for a full time spot. Chasing a quick upgrade is not important to me, I would like to become a skilled professional pilot first.

I think QX has an awesome product and hope they are around for a long time. I enjoy flying. Corny but true. I am pretty happy where I am. Thanks!

NWaviator thanks for the information, I will keep an eye out....

You only go to Horizon to be based in PDX/SEA. That has stood true for 10 years now.

And P.S. You dont't go to Eagle for hopes of getting on AA.. Thats been the carrot for 10+ years now....

If you'd like to go to QX because it's your "home town" airline then all the power to you. All i'm saying is by the time youre coming out of reserve as an FO at QX you'll be a captain on the Q at Colgan.

QX will be scuttled by AAG. The only thing that will save QX is the crappy CBA with baseball style arbitration and that fact the company will slash and burn QX. It is now your turn to be in the barrel.

Sorry...I would go somewhere else and try to get the quick upgrade and position yourself for the BIG PILOT SHORTAGE. Sorry for yelling, as I was trying to say that one with a straight face.

Why would you go to Horizon. Go to Colgan and upgrade on the Q in like 13 months.

Sez the bottom feeding, jizz lapping, chode from gheyjets. You are really the last one to be giving career advice.
