slight correction here.... there is no limit for an "unplanned extension" in the FOM. we can theoretically work a 16, 17, 18+ hour day if it was a weather, ATC, or whatever delay.

correct me if I am wrong, but I'm pretty sure there is no limit. there sure as hell should be though.

Yes, you are correct.... I was refering to the practice of walking away from the aircraft at the 15:59 hour to keep you away from the 16:59 duty day...

They can reduce show times, turn times, and shutdown times. Dispatch will even give you legs nonstop that clearly require a fuel stop, and call this a planned duty day to keep you under 14 hours. When you stop for fuel, It becomes an unplanned over 14 so no minute for minute rest.
YES, it does happen. You just have to put your foot down and stop this trainwreck. Then, you become the bad guy.

neat stuff, huh?

What's the typical sched at Flex? What will a new hire usually get? I could not find this on any previous post.

I am sure you can not work over a 16 hour day for wx, delays, etc. for any reason. The Flex FOM even says that. You can work over 14 hours for those previous reasons. Parts 135 and 91k are similar to part 121 concerning the 16 hour limit. In fact if you take off knowing your are going over 16 hours than that is not legal either.

You could work over 16 to airline home but that would have to be agreed upon by you. You could chose not to airline and get an OT day.

16on/12off for every 28 day bid cycle and there are 13 cycles per year. That is what most folks get.

Everybodys daily flying schedule is very different.

So if I understand this right; 16straight days on, then 12 days off in a row. Is there any days off during the 16 days on? That's a long time to be away. One thing that could work though, is that pilots could commute-on their own dime-to their domicle and only have to do this once a month. How many pilots actually commute though to domicle?

We don't work 16 in a row followed by 12 off. That would be insane. A typical Flexjet schedule would be something like 6 on, 4 off, follwed by 5 on, 3 off, followed by 4 on, 3 off. Any derivitave thereon would follow. Its not bad but its not Netjetexcellent. Flex is a great place. A few tweaks and it can be the best place. (No offence to anyone)

Thanx JokerFuel for clearing that up. It makes more sence now.

Who will be eligible for the new 7/7 schedule? Do you think a newhire could bid it? Will Flex ramp that up if pilots feel it is desirable?

I imagine the 7/7 bid will go to the VERY senior fellows who don't need the cash or have other good reasons to home as much as possible. I doubt a newhire would have any reasonable shot at it. I also doubt that Flex will ramp that up as they average yield is still 15.5 days per bid period. They're not about to reduce that, and they're not about to increase the crew ratio so more than likely its just a flexable schedule attainable by those near the top of the list. Then again, our PBS system does some truly wierd things so you never know.

I work 4 on 3 off all month long for 16 days right now the most you work in a row is 6 with 4 days off after and the least is 3 with 2 off. When the 7 and 7 starts it will be open for anyone, but unlike others when you find out you don't like it you won't be stuck in it forever. The fine tuning is being done about how it will be handled but it will either be for a month at a time or a quarter. Once you start bidding it and you want to stay 7/7 then as long as you bid it you should get it. But remember its a 14 day line, so you will make more money working more days. On the other side of that if you want to work more than 17 you will get your schedule awarded before everyone else. With this new system what you want is what you will get, in regards to how many days worked, not days off.

Flex guys/gals,

Just curious if the pay proposal is/was enough for the Flex management to stave off the union drive? I'm sure most of us are hoping it was not. What do you say???

Too early to tell.
