I hear the captains are paying for landing and T/O fee's with a checkbook. That can't be good. Another guy said the company credit card was more of a debit card and ran out of funds from time to time.

You do realize that in many parts of the world, using a check is the only way to pay right?
 
We have 3 Classic N471/482/486EV flying. And 3 747-400 N491EV 400F/ N492EV 400BCF and N493EV 400BDSF. Looks like another 400BCF coming in Dec. Some places we are writing checks for landing fees and ground handling.. The credit card is hit or miss..That is the biggest pain when on the road. Things are not good but I have no place to go so I am hear..

SO what your saying is, this is normal for the Evergreen captains to carry a checkbook for landing fees? Not something new?

In my 30 plus years in the cargo world, it has always been handled by the ground troops, be it a loadmaster or handler. I do sign for landing fees and handling on a regular basis, but don't write checks.


I know back in the day, SAT captains signed for briefcases with cash for a trip.


Zone, I understand, just seeing if what I was hearing was an isolated story or the trend.

having recently left EZ, I can tell you that there are few stations where we had to pay with captains checks normally... this is all new with the credit line maxed out, especially in PVG, HNN and ANC.

Trust me, it's not normal procedures to pay for catering, fuel and landing fees with CC's at EZ where they go.

Word is 488 and 489 might be back in Dec. 490 is in a C check till the end of Nov. I think these planes will replace the pratt planes. Capts checks in HHN are a normal thing for now. Who the hell knows WTF is going on. I am having a drink and going to bed, its been a long day.

Depending on the length of the trip (short 3 hour flight vs a 8 - 9 hour haul) and average cargo load a -200 might fit the bill over a -400. And I bet the charter cost of an -800 or 777 is a lot more than a -200. It all depends on need.
 
Here is a hypothetical question: Let's say a cargo crew is in a place like Saudi and the chief pilot were to call and say "hotel payments may not be getting through, make sure the front desk doesn't see when you leave the hotel", then the crew actually follows his advice...not that a hotel checkout should be so important, but wouldn't that possibly be a form of theft in an Arab country, and could that be a little unsafe? Maybe there's more to the story, but it's always good to keep your head in the game fellas.
 
The hotel scenario in Saudi is potentially an issue. When World declared chapter 11 last year I was quite nervous as I had about a 5000 hotel bill in Riyadh. I started paying every day just to not let that happen again. Thankfully the credit card has not ever failed but if it did Saudi would be a bad place.
 
That is one problem.. When the contract ends what ever money owed to Saudi will come out of the last payment. Now if you were to have other outstanding bills with the hotels/compounds/ MX vendors other than Saudi. Then Saudia can hold the plane and whoever is left in the kingdom untill the bills are paid.

I'd be a lot more worried about that in China or some parts of Africa. The Saudis aren't going to throw you in jail just because your company went bankrupt.
 
Yeah the Saudi's still do public beheadings......I for one don't want to to test the waters, although I agree many other really bad places including Africa.
