The way I heard it, they were always called S/Os (pilots) at Delta. When we picked up some F/Es (professional flight engineers) with the C&S merger, Woolman offered them a choice: obtain a pilot license (at Company expense) or become a ground mechanic. Some chose the former, and retired as Captains.

So at Delta and UAL an S/O was a pilot and an F/E was a mechanic (PFE?) Interesting. At AA they were always called F/Es whether they were pilots or PFEs. Any other airlines?

Next week will be hats off weeks for AirTran pilots to protest the resent circus episode. Does the pilots at the Tranny have the balls to leave their hats at home, or will they be coming to work with their tails between their a-- cheeks wearing their hats. We shall see.
