I still think there will be deeper cut at DCI.
Yes, Delta has modest fleet growth plans, but DC9's will still go..
I guess a lot rests on JAL outcome.
Good luck to you, guys. Delta is a fine airline, I am sure it'll do great.
MEM Cheif Pilot just sent out an email stating for everyone to expect the first joint bid to post in December. Here comes the fireworks!!
Some of you NWA pilots keep saying "here comes the fireworks" etc. What does that mean? Do you think a lot of NWA guys are going to move in to DAL bases and planes? What is the concensus between guys you fly with? Where do they want to go? I thought you guys were upset about the seniority integration? Which bases will be raided by you guys? I hope to be a future Delta pilot someday. Beats my regional by far I am sure.
With the large percentage of Delta-N guys/gals that commute, many aircraft swapping bases, and basically the first full integration of two very large airlines, we're going to have massive movement. Unfortunately not all of it up.
DTW is the largest DL-N base with the highest percentage of commuters. I'd look for the DL-N east coast guys jumping out of DTW and going to NYC and the guys commuting to DTW from the south moving into ATL.
SEA is going to become more of a senior base than it already is with all of the Delta-S pilots around the Puget Sound and PDX.
Significant movement in a couple other bases as well(LAX and SLC) but that's enough speculation.
The moving of the SLC MD90 to MSP will be interesting, and could prove to be a real boost to MSP. I don't know if many SLC pilots will follow it there.
Bye Bye--General Lee
A SLC MD Captain told me that most all of guys on the MD88 in SLC will swap over to the A320 vs. commuting to MSP. The A320 will be a good fit for SLC and I think it's better duty than flying the MD88/90.
Whatever happens, less 50 seat RJs and more mainline jets is always good. And speaking of 50-seat RJs, what a piece of crap!!! Passengers hate it, mainline pilots hate it, but at least it's almost always weight restricted.
85% on NYC commutes. I would assume 85% of the current NYC 777 pilots would simply chase the plane to DTW. A few might bid NYC 765.
A lesser percentage of ATL 765 pilots (the ones without Real Housewives of Atlanta) will chase the plane to NYC.
I'll wager the A330 in ATL will go very senior -- open to both N and S. A lot of ATL guys will be disappointed.
330 will more than likely not be on this bid as we do not have SIM time for that much training.
So, what will replace the current 765 flying? If they fly nightly from ATL to MAD or to MUC, then something will replace it, either the 767ERs from JFK the 765s are replacing, or something else like A330s.
Bye Bye--General Lee
Only 1/2 the fleet is being considered as moving to JFK. Think of it as taking the LAX 765 and now putting in NYC. 10 of 21 jets The rest is/will be done by fly thru 330 crews.
Hey Gen, want to go in on a DTW crashpad. :smash:
Okay, then where will the ERs go from JFK, that are being replaced by 765s? Could it be.......wait for it.....SEA? They have to be going somewhere unless we are parking them. When will CVG ER go away? (they don't really have any planes there anyway, since they DH to and from almost every trip)
And, I think I will still comfortably hold ATL on the ER. I could have been relatively senior on the 765 here in ATL, but I like the ER and it's variety. Thanks though.

Funny thing is that most of that 765 flying already being done up there. I am sure you will see flying or pairing do some other stuff, but from the sounds of it, no SEA ER base this bid. That should be in AUG.
I know where you sit, just giving you a hard time.
Lets just see what plans they actually pull the triggers on. If it is anything close to this, ATL will get real senior.
I figured that. CVG will also get senior when they dump the ER time. I see mass evacuations out of DTW, and maybe a small amount out of MSP, but it seems those MN people love it up there. I bet the AUG bid in 2010 will be a real disrupter too.
Bye Bye--General Lee
I live in SC, and have been considering bidding in to ATL, but I've pretty much decided to stay in DTW. It's really not that bad of a commute as long as you're not on reserve. I think my relative seniority is going to skyrocket there compared to what it would do in ATL.
I'm still watching it from my last month of mil leave, but it looks like guys around my seniority (10600ish) are getting 75+ hour blocks with 16-17 days off in DTW and MSP. I'd probably lose a couple more days to the commute, but that sounds pretty reasonable.
I keep hearing numbers like 800 NWA guys live in FLA, and a few hundred in the ATL area also. For those guys living in FLA, DAL-S also has hundreds of pilots living there who commute to ATL, and most of the time the choices are DL and Airtran, and maybe even an RJ on DL. I think many have changed to JFK as a base since JB and others fly almost hourly up there. It will be interesting, no doubt.
