When guns are effectively denied to law abiding citizens, i.e, "gun free zones", Chicago, Detroit, DC, LA, Most schools and workplaces, federal buildings (including Post Offices), military bases (ironically) and many malls, a person with ill intent can be fairly certain he or she will meet little resistance until police arrive.

-Why the hell do you think crime is so much higher in "gun-free" housing projects or "gun-free" urban areas like N.Y. or D.C.?

FSI isn't one of the 'off limits' places for concealed carry in GA (or TX).

I guess it depends where you go to recurrent.

I know at ASA you would not be in violation of any laws and that even if they were know, most of the instructors either wouldn't give a crap or would be interested in checking out your piece.

It's all a moot point though, 'concealed' means 'concealed'.

Do you get patted-down or wanded with metal detectors when you go to training? I don't/didn't.

As of July 2008, Employers in GA may not prohibit concealed carry, or storage of firearms in locked vehicles. There is an exception if the employer owns or leases the property. So, unless you work for FlightSafety, this would not apply.

Um I understood that the poster wanted to bring his gun into FSI to training ("coming to recurrent armed"). That's different than keeping it locked up in your glove box. I guarantee you that FSI would not be "cool" with a bunch of gun-crazy pilots packing heat inside of their workplace.

An interesting tidbit of info: Vehicles are regularly broken into and stolen out of the parking lot of the vendor who hosts ASA's recurrent ground and simulator training.

I consider this a clear and present threat to my personal safety when scheduled for these events.

Does anyone know of any company policy that addresses coming to these events armed?

I always come to recurrent with my AR-15 and a couple of hand grenades... just in case. Also, I highly recommend you to booby trap your car...just in case!

I walk to FS during the required training events from a nearby hotel and I always always watch my back; see and avoid or make direct eye contact with questionable pedestrians so as to make it known that I am watching them. I have even put my flight case down and turned around when someone was a little too close one afternnon. They just went around me. I dont trust anyone. If I wasnt a commuter I would carry. If its an event that is in the evening then I ask the van driver to drop me off at the front door and I hand him a couple of bucks for the ride. Most of the time it probably is safe. Their are some strange organisms on Virgina Ave during the day but it gets worse as night falls. It is an airport area.

I think you have a greater chance of being mugged in the Red Roof Inn parking lot, than the FSI one. Definately bring your gun to the Red Roof.

Fair question. Here's a scenario. Crappy neighborhood. Amped up crackhead sneaks up behind me, jams a gun in my back and demands my wallet and oversized pilot watch. I decide to resist and whip out my weapon and I am able to wheel around and place three rounds into his chest before he can even think about returning fire. Then I woke up, because only in my dreams or in the movies would I not be shot in that scenario.

I'd definitely surrender my wallet/watch AND Ray Ban's (cuz I'm wearing them at night I'm so cool) and walk away too. Having a gun doesnt mean you have to use it.

Depending on his actions as he walks away, it may even be legal to shoot him as long as you feel your life is still in danger. But that's a decision each person needs to make based on their training and overall comfort level in that situation, not for the goverment to decide.
