And one more thing...

For those with more than one mouth to feed and a mortgage, 1-2 years is a long time. Don't panic too much. Anything can happen. I wouldn't plan on an 11:57 phone call from the Governor, but maybe you'll have more time or someone will buy a shrunken version of us. There will be a lot of attrition and a handful of buy-outs I assume. You might get more time than you think. For example 19 a/c going away next year = roughly 190 pilots. Maybe 15 senior to you quit, 1 or 2 retire, and a few take a buy out, and 15 are on COLA. Then the big D decides only 14 a/c going away for 2011. Next thing you know 80 or 90 pilots that thought they were getting the axe get an additional 6 months employment. It isn't rosey, but you have a little time.

Good luck

Sorry guys. Reading that letter made my stomach hurt. I am sorry for pain and stress you and your family will have to go through.

My condolences to my former CMR brethren. I read the letter and threw up in my mouth a little. Comair was the most profitable regional last year with a 8.9% profit margin, yet mgt. says the airline's costs are still 20% higher than the market will bear. If the market won't bear it, how was Comair the most profitable regional? (Yes, I understand how it all works, just making a point...)

MHO ...

Comair is a part of Delta. It would take some research to validate this claim that CMR's costs are 20% more than competitors. What do the competitors enjoy for free (costs Delta pays) ?

Fleet renewal is just being outsourced. Welcome to Delta. We've outsourced fleet renewal to every form of Connection carrier, Alaska and bought airlines (getting their fleets) rather than grown organically.

Comair pilots have performed Delta flying for years. Who is better qualified for a Delta job? I, for one, would like to see Delta hire from their remaining wholly owned.

No doubt the Comair MEC Chair tried to leverage Delta furloughed pilots in an ugly and impolitic way. However, history shows his concerns (not his methods) were valid. Time for bygones and to try to help out fellow ALPA members.

Delta showing again it's total and utter inability to run an airline.

A very sad day for everyone at Comair.

What? They have recognized that 50 seaters don't work anymore.

Bye Bye--General Lee

If ALPA history indicates anything, don't expect much. You will most likely get a free 6 month subscription to Airinc (or whatever they are called now) and a workbook that helps you prepare for airline interviews.

As some have said on here,"good thing there is a pilot shortage coming" and "just in time for the next hiring boom." All bunk.

99 months would be over 8 years, lol. You get unemployment for 99 weeks, not months. That's less than two years.

There is a cap on how much you get. It runs out once you hit the benefit limit. I just looked at Kentucky and it is 26 weeks or 1/3 of your total based pay...whichever comes first.

General

I suspect your attitude would be a little different if Big D decided to dispose of their inefficient 737's and out sourced their flying to Republic E170's.

Have a little sympathy.

It's a matter of time.
