Comair Cancels Flights

LAST UPDATE: 12/25/2004 10:02:57 AM

Comair has canceled its flights at the Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky International airport. Officials are telling Local 12 the computer system has been stressed over the past couple days and the airline is unable to assign crews to flights.
However we talked to a pilot who says Comair and Delta use the same computer system and he thinks there may be other issues.
A Comair spokesperson says flights will resume Monday, but on a limited schedule.

From Delta.com website...

Comair cancels flights to/from Cincinnati
Comair is currently experiencing computer problems, resulting in cancellation of many flights to/from Cincinnati, Ohio, today, Saturday, 25 December 2004.

If you are traveling on a Comair flight to/from Cincinnati or connecting through Cincinnati today, please use the Flight Information tool at the bottom of the page to see if your flight has been impacted.

B
They must have switched to ASA's computer system.

We're stuck in BTV. There are three crews here and two planes. They have pilots and FAs that volunteered in CVG over at the SOCC and calling the hotels one by one and asking them to connect them to any Comair people that are there. They are making a list of all the crews and where they are. I told him that we have a plane and crew and a credit card so if we don't hear back from them in 2 days they can pick their plane up at the FBO in Cancun, we'll be on the beach and find our way back sometime next year!

Hey at least I am getting my per diem (I was .5 hours away from breaking guarantee and being pay protected before this happend)

And it's ashame that there are 33 Dornier Jets (30 painted in Delta colors) sitting idle in MYR...
It's even a bigger loss that those very jets could be flying for Delta by Skyway right now. Oh well - maybe in 2005.

Merry Christmas!

Hey, just lower your payscales, get your management to fly for cost +1%, and you could fly some E170's for Delta. That's better than those ratty FRJ's.

I'm surprised there is not a paper backup system available. When I was at Eagle we had the paper system mastered and could deploy it the second the systems burped.
I agree. No matter how good or bad your system is, you should have a manual/paper backup to at least operate some flights. Inexcusible.

Looks like I'll be able to soak up another day's worth of liquid sunshine here in Orlando! I was scheduled to go in tomorrow, but I'm released until they call me back, wow! I volunteered to operate anything out of the Southeast they need over the next few days. Heck, maybe I can get an Academy plane to repo me to where they need me! On second thought, maybe MISA's broke too! (Academy's AFU sked program)

Hover,

Did they call you to release you?
Nope, I called them. I got a call from a friend who lives there who got me up to speed on what was happening. I'm glad he did, because I would've gotten on a DAL flight tomorrow morning to report for what was going to be one of my few-and-far-between two day trips.

They told me they'd call me if/when they need me, otherwise I guess I'll call in the displacement window tomorrow night.

Looks like this is SBS's (the crashed computer system) Y2K event! Hopefully they'll divert some funds from installing hardwood floors in the MD-88s to securing us a somewhat more modern scheduling/bidding system. What a POS!

Check the VARS, JC posted an emergency message this morning outlining what's going on and how to report.

Yea, I check the VARS.. It leaves everyone in CVG in limbo as we're not to call them. I have another day on window and don't want a repeat of today..

Hopefully JC will put out some more info today. If I can help move airplanes, I would love to help. If not, let me go home.

you know its bad when it is on the headline news section of Yahoo..... 1100 flights cancelled, wow!! I guess Comair will have a lot of new faces in the IT department next year...... and probably ZERO old faces.... this is the mofo of mofo's if you are Comair's CEO

I wouldn't rely on friends of friends, etc. I am here in the crew /ops/lounge and Maria and piper said check in for what you were supposed to tomorrow and the next to have awareness of where crews are and who is where, etc.

or call VARS..

I really don't think the problem lies with IT. They can only do the best with what they are given. We have a system that runs on vacuum tubs and squirrels.

I do think we'll be seeing a new VP of flight ops and maybe someone new higher up the food chain.

Call the VARS (unlikely to get through) or check your ALPA email. Excerpted from JC's letter to us today:

"... This is extremely important – Pilots should not contact Crew Scheduling; Crew Scheduling will contact you

· ONLY Crews at outstations should contact Crew Scheduling to make immediate arrangements for you and your crewmembers to get home ASAP; Please designate one single crewmember per crew as the sole communicator for your entire crew

· Pilots scheduled to report for trips between now and the end of the year MUST NOT report; Crew Scheduling will contact you

· The Emergency Procedures side letter was invoked by Management this past Thursday and remains in effect, for now, until this Christmas evening. The only Contractual Deviation invoked, at this time, by the Company is that displacement call-in windows may become fluid; not fixed as per the Contract and as published in the Bid Packets..."

I listened to the VARS today..

JC said updates thoughout the day. It's coming up on 1700 local and no update. There has to be something new to put out to the masses.

thanks bellyflier

yes, i did get through to VARS and received the ALPA email.

thanks for the clarification...
