The airlines are always the last to get the most up-to-date avionics/equipment.

I agree its absolutley ridiculous that the c172 that is going out to do lazy eights has more sophistacted wx alerting instruments than the 32 million dolllar airplane behind it wait for them to do their run up.

Embry-Riddle Comments

This just came across the radio from some idiot ERAU professor in Arizona.

I missed his name, but some professor from ERAU is shooting his mouth off about how he thinks the accident is engine-related.

I heard the same thing - crazy.

Will be interesting to see if the CVR shows any indication that these guys were tired. The folks on this board have been saying for a long time that it would take an accident before the FAA stepped up to do anything about it. Unfortunately, this may be it. Fatigue might not have been an issue at all, of course. Sad sad day.

Man...... I just woke up from my nap and found out that the Capt was Jeff Clay. Jeff was my first CFI when I got to college. He gave me 2 lessons and called off of my 3rd so he could celebrate him going to Comair. Jeff was a SUPER NICE guy. My heart and prays go out to his and FO Polehinsky's(sp) family and friends.

Hi!

I don't understand why Jepps isn't up to date.

At our home airport, they just finished a new taxiway. It wasn't on the airport diagram, so I looked in Q service, and it wasn't there either!

It's not like the repave stuff/build new taxiways, etc. in 1 day. They should tell Jepps what they're doing and when they expect to finish, so Jepps could have accurate info out to the pilots as the construction is finished.

With the internet and today's communication abilities, there is no reason not to have accurate diagrams/approaches available in the cockpit.

I understand that Jepps sometimes screws up, but this construction stuff is planned and takes months/weeks, so the information is known ahead of time.

Jepp is always behind NOS. This is been a problem that Jepp has been working on for at least 3 years.

Guys, please be careful when looking at Google maps. I've looked up several locations and the maps did not show newer buildings that are there. The screen shots are not always live shots.

My thoughts and prayers are with the crew, passengers, and friends and families of the victims.

I was wondering who the jumpseater could have been. My condolences, not a way I'd want to go. That erases the theory that he was sitting in the cockpit though since Airtran is not CASS.

AirTran Chief Pilot Office confirmed it was indeed one of our FO's jumpseating. God bless all of the families involved.

What the hell CNN reported the pilots arrived last night at just past midnight and were out at 6:00am the next day.

Terrible... You never ever want to hear this kind of news. Ruined my day, but that is nothing compared to the families without loved ones tonight. Prayers for them all.

I will join the chorus of PROFESSIONAL pilots who refuse to speculate about the cause, no matter how bad it looks for the crew involved. Two reasons: First, the press is a poor resource for aviation information. Second, Karma is a nasty bi*ch that drives one hell of a big bus. I for one don't want to piss her off and have her hunting me down.

Just remember boys and girls, you are one tiny mistake away from being just like these poor folks. Act accordingly.

Thanks, Earl!

God bless, for all involved.

The media is doing no service at all. I try and remember this when they cover areas that I know nothing about. But I think, there must be some guy somewhere saying "What crappy coverage, and these folks have no idea what they are talking about". I just happen to be that guy today.

I believe they had been displaced from their orginal trip and deadheaded in last night... their lines had been pulled off epic. But knowing Comair, it was scheduled reduced rest.

uh huh, this should open the fatigue issue wide open.

^^Couldn't have said it better myself. God bless the families of those who are lost.

Maybe this accident will Highlight Crew rest issues and fatigue. I have never understood 8 hrs "legal rest", wtf...you are lucky if you get a max of 6 hours of rest...

My prayers and condolences go to the families and friends of all on board...maybe there is a lesson to be learned from this.
