Gearmunky,
Now, tell us about your GIV experience? Did you see one on the ramp, once?
Tugged 'em, washed 'em, fueled 'em, and flyin 'em. I was just in the right place at the right time and knew the right people.
I've put up with all this "I have 10,000 hours therefore I am God" scenario for all of my (short) career so far, and I don't understand why all you guys think that everyone has to match
your career. Remember this is corporate, not "Count every bit of time to the last tenth" airline. When someone tells me "You need to wait a few years" Why should I?
I tried to join the military a million times and can't get in to fly. So should I settle for a slow paced civilian career? F that! I'm going to try to fly the biggest thing I can get my hands on with a
willing and capable captain and
sit down, shut up, and learn some real world experience, not shooting the pattern a million times to build time. Thus, setting the bar higher and learning in between the gap.
A close friend of mine was a tanker captain @ 750 hours. According to all of the time flamers in here, that shouldn't be. Remember that the airplane is only military on the ground and just another hunk of metal taking up space in the sky. Can the military duplicate everything on the ground in a sim? No, I don't think so and neither can we. So I guess the military should make their pilots shoot the pattern for a thousand hours in a T-41 before stepping them up to a tweet?
How 'bout them airlines taking guys with 600 hours and putting them in the right seat of a jet loaded with people, I guess that should'nt happen either.
Yes, the insurance companies technically have the right to set their minimums and don't have the capacity to go on a case by case basis, but should let the flight departments allow anyone to fly their airplanes as they see fit. Not pre-branding everyone into one big group.
Point is, is that it's all how you were brought up and cultivated in the cockpit, no one has to follow anyone's career; there's hundreds of ways to go about making your career, yes time is important, but it's not the only thing. So don't judge someone if you don't know them. You wouldn't want someone to judge you by the color of your skin would you??
