I have a hard time seeing a benefit for me as a Delta Pilot apart from the statement that the roof is falling and it will after I am laid off for a few years provide me a better company to get recall.
Any opinions are welcomed !! Enlighting me as to my bright future in a new Delta.
Also the Northwest guys get pay raises, equity and our DC program. The SLI does not give the Delta pilots an advantage.
So I see a Airline with smiling northwest pilots and Delta pilots just dreading losing their quality of life.

see the benefits of not merging all around the rest of the industry. step back and take a deep breath, We (both NWA/DAL) are in a much better position than most right now. Good luck with your Emirates pursuit.;)

That is my point! The only auguement I hear for the merger from our dear Northwest brethen mostly is merge or die and it does seem suspect coming from folks who seem to be the biggest winners in the deal!!

Isn't the point that EVERYONE should benefit. Why should a "Delta" pilot get an advantage?

The Northwest guy gets a huge pay raise, better benefits and equipment. I do not get to fly his B747 or anything better than what I have already. My quality of life goes backwards.
What is in this deal for a Delta Pilot!

THROW THE DELTA PILOT A BONE!!
EQUAL PAY ON DAY 1

Someone else gets it!! The success of DAL in this economy relies on NWA and the Success of NWA relies on DAL. Even Lee Moak mentioned in his message that both sides need each other. Until everyone see's that we wont be able to successfully achieve every benefit of being 1 solid pilot group.

I think he he meant "fair and just;" SLI plus about 15% is fair for Delta pilots considering our better contract and the amount of high paying seats we have.

How does you QOL go backwards when the company as a whole is in a much better position? I am willing to bet that your QOL is ultimately going to go up and the long term stability of DAL is going to be better for everyone involved. Cheer up, go get a snow cone or something

Superpilot:

Oh come on. This thing is a windfall for you and at best a 5 year set back for the Delta new hires. I'm happy for you, but you should at least be gentleman enough to realize that Delta pilots are not getting better bases, huge (for you around 40%) raises, better growth potential and better management.

Enough with the happy horse-crap about we both being better off. YOU are better off.

Yeah, and why don't we merge with Comair, bring their pay up to ours then go to binding arbitration. After all they bring better growth, junior equipment, bases and in some cases, pay, to the table.

It is pretty obvious when displaced DC9 pilots knock 767 international guys out of their seats & bases that QOL is going backwards. Backwards by 5 to 10 years for similarly situated pilots.

Better contract is based on factors. NWA could have had a better contract if it had given up the pensions. Contract comparison or pay comparisons are pointless because they were on different playing fields. Times change and so do contracts.

What? They are keeping their pensions and getting DAL's pay.

I think they are keeping their cake and eating it too.

A Big Headache!!

That is the only feeling I have ever had about the merger. Just looking for some cheer about this merger for me as a Delta pilot. Just as the Northwest pilots always say seniority is forever and the future is not guaranteed. Why should I hope on a better company as my reward. Who knows if the merger will make us stronger. The new Delta may end up as a hell hole to work at. Unhappy miserable employees.
I want my share of the pie now. Where is my relative reward. If my blessed Northwest pilots are getting huge pay raises what am I getting to make me happy. I get to keep my seat maybe, Thank you!

Come on Fins your letting the Drama Queen back out. ;) Do you argue that the overall and long term stability of DAL is not going to improve? Nothing says DAL wouldnt be cutting back, as well as NWA, if this merger wasnt going on. The combination of OUR companies is whats going to make our QOL and Career stability better. In a stand alone NWA i would have retired at #3 and would have been at the top of the list for the last 15-20 years of my career regardless of the short term bumps so i to might lose some "expectations" in all of this but its for the greater good for ALL of us. This isnt about YOU or ME its about the whole picture. If that sounds too Rosy for you, than i dont know what to tell you. This merger needs to happen for all included and thats not just from me its from BOTH Unions and BOTH mgmt teams. Glass half full

Thank you for telling the truth as I see it! All respect to Northwest guys I really do believe that this merger was forced on us Delta pilots by investors and we have no guarantee of a happy or more productive company. Some people would get rich but it is not going to be the Delta Pilot.
I am yet to meet a pilot happy about the merger. We are all trying to make the best of a sad situation that seeks to erode our quality of life to the extent we have to look at our options.
A Delta pilot looking at his options. Unreal but this merger is doing it to us.:crying:

I do not believe we would be cutting back or laying of pilots at all without a merger. We have solid growth and without a merger we will be hiring pilots right now. If we do not merge soon we will be hiring. Northwest will be sending pilots to the street.
The two companies hiring here shortly are Delta and Southwest. Every other Airline is singing the tune of doom and gloom.

DELTA = SOLID GROWTH AND INTERNATIONAL EXPANSION:pimp:

The most reliable inside source I have told me that the NWA and DAL MEC's have been briefed on the "likelihood" of furloughs this fall, which would be fewer in number if the fleets were optimized by Delta. This was pressure for the NWA and DAL MEC to move quickly on the TA.

This sounds similar to what Lee Moak intoned in the Chairman's letter.

The Delta System Chief Pilot has been basing his projections on Delta's stand alone plan to the best of my knowledge. My take from these facts is that without NWA, Delta would hire 125 to 140 this fall. With a SLI furloughs will be spread among both groups.

ACL65 - this match what you're getting? FDJ2? Occam?

If challenged to say one thing nice about this merger... well... it isn't US Air.

A 400 hour wonder will replace a DC9 pilot, who will displace a 767Intl pilot, which will cause a furlough off an MD88. What's wrong with this picture?

It sure doesn't sound like anyone has answered how the junior NWA guys will be "benefiting" from this merger.... Have any buyouts been organized through the MEC to prevent what looks like their furloughs? Unless there is a secret deal to takeover FedEx ops out of Anchorage, I can't see what else they could possibly be planning for them....keep in mind a lot of those "junior" guys aren't young wet behind the ears like guys like SuperPilot... The airlines hadn't been hiring for years until recently, and a lot of these guys brought significant experience to NWA...It would have a much greater affect on them (throwing them under the rug) in the modern aspect of being "junior" than years before when they all had long years ahead of them

Ah, how quickly their tone changes.

Indeed.

ACL65 has been saying he is hearing additional hiring is needed. At least thats what he said recently.

Guys that were furloughed from NWA will go from 3rd or 4th year pay to 8th or 9th year pay with the Delta contract. We kept longevity for pay. I have only worked for Delta a little over two years (5 years on furlough) but I am on 8th year pay. I hope the NWA MEC fought for this for their junior pilots...I know the Delta guys did for us.

This is something I hope the NWA MEC discussed in the joint agreement.

What do you mean sir?

I noticed you guys like beer and smiles so I try to give you a page full to keep you happy.

But more details on the benefits of the merger to a Delta Pilot?

In the long term a good deal for both pilot groups. The DC-9 probably has you guys a bit nervous since they are after all retiring. But I think with our new B787 and a enhanced ability to exercise the options on these aircraft, the link between NWA and Delta will be more of a positive than a negative if you're talking merely about staffing. So cheers!!!
