So you need reminders in this forum to help you determine when scheduling is pushing you too hard?

-Dude-

-What the hell is your avatar? That just gives me a headache.

The problem isn't the red arrows, they're a symptom. The problem is having a huge force of reserves who operate known open time, creating an artificially high number of "reserves required" per day and the associated red arrows. The company started to use reserves to fly known open time right about the time the red arrows became so prolific.
Very true

But but... then they couldn't operate the schedule and open time with complete control over 25% of the pilots schedules. And if all the reserves are operating the schedule, well, then we'll have red arrows cause no one is available to cover sick calls and irops. Then we'll beg for more reserves to alleviate red arrows.. who will then operate the schedule...leaving none for sick calls and irops...

Why is the union ignoring this? Why is this acceptable? Are reserves happy with this? I guess our reserve pilots are more qualified and current than ever, but they're also exhausted and overworked.

Happy? We have been warning Mgmt for over a month that this summer will meltdown if we don't get some relief. NO ONE listened. Even our fellow pilots ignored this and continued to scream about not being able to move their days off. Only NOW when they are being junior manned and extended does anyone care.

But not about the reserves. We don't matter.

The union reps are hiding. They are totally silent on this issue. No returned E-mails and phone calls.

Remember all the campaign posters in the crew lounge?
"I will listen to and respond to all members concerns, blah, blah, blah"

What is the process to recall?

Why is our union ignoring EVERYTHING!?!

ALPA handed them PBS on a silver platter, they have let many contract violations just slide over the past few months, and what did we get for all this goodwill?

-Probable vacation cancellations!

-Gee, thanks!

What is your solution? I've bugged a couple of goons lately about much of this stuff. I guess the stuff has gone out but the grievance process all the way to arbitrator can take almost a year. What are they supposed to do? The red arrow thing is going back to a mediator and then on to the arbitrator but the time frame takes us well beyond PBS start up. Annoys the hell out of me but what else can we really do short of an illegal work action? That in itself won't solve anything either. all it will do is make us look worse to potential customers.

Don't worry though. Come September, everyone will be complaining about lack of flying.

As far as the goons go, I've never had a hard time with them getting back to me. Don't always get the answers I want but how I can stand there and beat my chest when the contract gives the company the ability to do this sort of stuff?

Hey Joe,

How much time did you spend on reserve?

About 2 years under far worse scheduling rules and a ruthless head of scheduling....Erion....Most of you wouldn't have lasted under those conditions. You do realize that back then, being on call was considered "rest" don't you?

Simply put, the rules for reserves are far better than they have ever been. The company is far more reasonable than they have ever been. The schedulers are far nicer than they were in the past. In addition, stagnation isn't something new...It has happened before. This is the third downturn I have seen.

What makes the "I had it worse than you" thing OK? Yes you did. Then people made it better. Things still needed to be fixed, so we strive for that.

Joe-

I prepared a long response, but I think this will pretty much sum it up:

-SHUT UP, YOU POMPUS GASBAG!

-Go and find some other battle to fight-our guys don't need some inane lecture about how your past supposedly sucked more than theirs!!

-How useless can you get? Go and find some RJDC literature to jerk off to!

Did you actually read the posts leading up to my reply, or are you just slow?

The point has been made REPEATEDLY that us senior folks don't understand how bad it is now...That dog won't hunt....

Things will always suck for people who are junior compared to those who are senior...That is one of those facts of life in this business. The best thing for someone who is junior is to become more senior..That happens when we get more airplanes.

things don't have to suck for junior people if the company would change a few things..it's almost as if you enjoy the suffering of junior people

They will always "suck" compared to those who are senior. IMO, being a junior Delta pilot commuting to NYC on reserve "sucks" compared to my life.....You may disagree...

The best thing that can happen to junior people is to become senior...plain and simple. I have been here 16 years, and if there had been no growth, I would be a junior line holder. Instead, I am a senior line holder because of growth.

I don't "enjoy" anyone suffering...That is why I want to grow.

right, but why does it HAVE to suck? why not make reserve bearable? Just because it sucked for you back then why does it have to now? there are many things they could do-for instance using reserves for their intended purpose so we didn't work every single day and get that 4am wakeup call every day and get extended into 5 and 6 day trips because of hidden open time

It's always going to suck compared to being a lineholder, and especially compared to a senior line holder......It sucks a lot less than it use to, but it still sucks compared to a senior line holder. Growth is your friend if you want a better QOL....If you want to hurt the company and complain all the time, then get used to reserve for a long time....Your choice...

"Brand Scope"

-There, that should get you going! Time to get your little RJDC circle jerk session started... Take it away-Joe!

FWIW I have to agree with Joe that Erion was the worst person I've ever met and makes the entire current scheduling roster look great. She loved ruining people's lives and can't believe she never got a........... Wonder what she's doing these days???

There was a time when reserve was much better than junior lines. However, that was admittedly the result of an inefficient reserve system. Unfortunately it appears that which equates to an "efficient" reserve system really really sucks the big fat butt.

I can understand a bean counter saying we should get guarantee out of all pilots, including reserves, and that works fine when reserve is not a long term sentence. But given the stagnation recently experienced, the suck factor went off the charts, for those doing the sucking.

I imagine if things keep looking even slightly up with minor relative seniority movement until the age 65 hiring bubble pops, those who have sat reserve for the last two years will be telling our new junior guys to shut-the-fook-up and about how they sat reserve for how long and about they had to walk over to A-tech to move airplanes in a blizzard and blah blah blah!!!
