Dec. 9th class

Update for those who care about class assignments at ASA.

The Dec. 9th class has 20 people in it.
The available slots were:

10 FO CRJ200 DFW
10 FO CRJ700 DFW

Of course the surprise is the 70 seater openings, but it seems that knowone is bidding the 70 because the lines are not so good, therefore the leftover goes to the newhire class. It has its good and bad sides, but I am not complaining in the least.

Thanks for the info. I just received the letter that I was put in the pool and can't wait to start.

Just curious why there were no props for this class. Did it just work out that way?

The props (E-120) are going away, first in ATL by April 2003, then later in DFW. I doubt they will have any more E-120 classes as people are slowly being displaced from the E-120 to other aircraft types, or to the E-120 in DFW (until it also goes away).

There will still be ATR classes from time to time, but a lot of the displaced EMB guys are moving to the ATR rather than the jet.

Props/class

Hey,

We found out today that they will have a class in January, I do not remember the date but I believe it will be early Jan.

When seats open up and knowone bids for them by a certain date then the leftover goes to newhire classes.

I do not agree with sleepy's statement of no new classes on the EMB120, but I could be wrong.I think there my be one or two more classes bases on the planes "current" life expectancy.Bottom line is the plane will be gone by 04.

Dallas is were the growth is so most ,but not all new hire classes will go to DFW, once the CRJ700 lines are well established things with start moving around in terms of bidding from the senior guys.

With the new 49% deal with DAL things are going to change even more.

We were also informed that the 700 guys will be pushed through ASAP because of need, even though the effective date for the 70 FO in DFW was 4/1/03, they said they will reserve in ATL till then. The RJ200 guys will be delayed in training because of a backup in the sim. I hope that gives me more time to get up to speed on things.

Hope the info help you poolies out some.

I don't think there will be anymore E-120 classes for ATL. I doubt if DFW will get any either, but who knows. They are letting E-120 guys go to other aircraft as they retire aircraft (and paying a lot of them bypass pay).

I don't know how they do the per diem now. When I went through I was DFW based and got 24/7 per diem, except on weekends, holidays, and when we had a break in training. Best thing is to ask one of the pay people in the GO.

Medeco,

What is the "new 49% deal with DAL" that you mentioned?

I am still learning so I am sure to be corrected if wrong. I think the DAL contract says if more than 4 months of loss then the scope can grow from x % to a larger % that DAL is allowed to outsource to and not be required to use mainline planes.

In general I thinks this is right.

Jan. class?

Has anyone else heard of a Jan. class starting? If so, do you know the date and have they scheduled or contacted anyone to be in it yet? Just one class in Jan?
Lots of questions, but I am just ready to get out of the pool!!

I havent heard of anything except through Medco. How long have you been in the pool. Ive been trying to get an idea of how far back the poolies go. Ive been in since mid Oct.

Jan 2nd class

Ok I found out today the one and only Jan. class will be the 2nd. So, that means they will call soon to notify those lucky enough.

The person I talked with says the class will be another "all" RJ class based in DFW.

I didnt get class size, sorry!

Word is this will be the only new hire class till middle of 2003, reason being the extra pilots coming over from the EMB120, they expect to carry an excess load for a short term, of pilots.

Good luck!

It's been a great experience so far, but a long way to go.

I interviewed just before Thanksgiving. But since they don't go with the normal 'first in first out', then I guess I have a chance at being in that Jan. class.
Lets all stay optimistic that they'll have another Jan class and/or at least a Feb and Mar class. I don't think they REALLY know that far in advance and when they quit interviewing this past fall they said they wouldn't interview anymore intill 03, but that all changed...I'm proof!!:D

I would agree completely! and I should have said that before.

Medeco

I am also proof of that.

I interviewed in early Oct, and am still in the pool with everyone else. I have heard from a buddy at ASA that the displacements from the EMB120 could push us all back for class dates.

I've never been in a pool before, but it's more frustrating than waiting for that "yes/no" letter. Patience is key I guess.

The Scoop

I got a lot of info yesterday from HR.
Capt B. is no longer there.
The list for the Jan 2 class should be finalized on Wednesday.
They will be going to a "First-in-First-out" system on who gets to go to class after that.

Also, they didn't confirm that there will be no more classes till mid year, said they heard the same, but again, as we all know, things change daily.
They will be retireing only 2 of the turbo-props in January and are supposed to take delivery of 21 jets this year. So I would think we should all be in a class before too long.

Does anyone know how many crews they like to have for the props vs the jets? I hear it is usually more for the jets.

Class Date

:D
Just received a call from ASA. I'm in the Jan. 2nd class!!!!

There will be 20 in the class, but they have no information on what aircraft or bases at this time.

:) :D

Congrats and good luck!

Thanks for the prompt update Matrix! I interviewed in Nov also and am hoping for the same call today. I will keep the phone line open-

Do you think your call to HR yesterday helped you? Did they seem helpful when you called? And where did Capt B. go? Who was your contact in HR?

Sounds like there could be more classes soon, but you never know.

Thanks again.

The next class will be all CRJ FO's in DFW....this from one of those in the "know". There will be a drain on the DFW pilots with the 700 award for April. They will need people to fill the vacancies.

Jan 2, 2003

I am there and stoked. Very excited about joining the familia. Cheers mate, to all who got the call.

Question on one of the last replies. What do you mean by drain on the crj700 in dfw? Sorry for the dumb question. Is the 01/02 class going to be like the 12/09 class as far as aircraft assignment?

Again I am very excited about joing the ASA family....

The 70 seater was going to be an ATL airplane only, then Mother Delta decided she wanted the 70 in DFW. Because of this, ASA is going to base 4 CRJ700's in DFW 04-01-03, and the last award had vacancies for 700 pilots in DFW. The pay rate is much higher for senior captains (not so much for FO's) and because of there will be pilots moving from the 50 to the 70. I assume they anticipate movement and because of this are sending new hires to DFW.

Just my $.02

Did anyone else receive a call for the 01/2/03 class?

I called today and didnt get through. I had heard that they were finishing the list by today and if they were giving 2 weeks notice, that would mean they'd have to contact everyone by end of business today for that class.

I also heard that they go by "first in - first out"; well not really if one of the guys here interviewed in Nov and got a call, I interviewed in early Oct and haven't been called.

It's getting cold swimming in the pool.

me neither . . .

I didn't get the call either, but being a November interviewee, I guess that is not too unexpected. I think Matrix said that AFTER this class, then they are going to start going with first in, first out. Is that right, Matrix?

Any of you in class now, or awaiting, please pass on any vital info to us, mainly, 1) how many left in pool 2) future class dates, or estimates of same 3) what aircraft/domiciles are offered 4) good contact person, if you think phone calls to them would not be annoying. Avrodriver, you are bound to be next or soon, if I were you I might try to call just to make sure you weren't misplaced, since several November interviewees have been called for class.

Keep the faith.

They said that it SHOULD be first in first out, that it hasn't been in the past, and that in the future they would like to be going to it.

My interpretation is that it will start with the next class since this class was pretty much already picked before the change at the helm.

As for calling and bugging them, I would hold off on the calls until you hear through the grapevine that another class is coming on (insert date here) just like the first post by Medeco last week about the Jan 2nd class.

I did hear that the Jan class will have 20 in it, and I think the pool had enough for three classes in it before this one.

We'll keep you updated just as those before us have.

Hang in there!

FYI

They were interiviewing yesterday - 19 December. At least 5 of them from what I saw. They appear to be keeping the pool full. Training is backed up with new hires and the prop guys coming over to the jet. But as always, things change on short notice. Good place to work! Good luck and hang in there.

Thanks guys for the heads-up. I don't like calling over there because I always feel like I am pestering them. I had called them in late Nov regarding the Dec class and they told me that some of the poolees called were from April interviews. Wow! But I also heard that they are now down to the Oct interviewees being at the top of the list to be called next. That's why I was surprised to see Nov being called. That's fine. We'll all be there soon enough.

So where did Capt. B go?

when?

Can someone tell me when the passes kick in after you start class for family members. Do we have to wait until after IOE until we are "legal" to jumpseat?

thanks

You can jump seat from day one, (or rather as soon as you get your company IDs, which make take a day or so), your family has to wait 30 days. Buddy passes take longer.

Rumor Central...

Hey all,

Here are a couple of latest rumors (all from several sources) that don't bode well for those who are treading water:

ALL E120's gone by the end of the summer. This steps up the retirement pace significantly. I've been told it is because the airplanes are sitting around too much and not getting used efficiently, hence making them very expensive to operate. I've also heard that we may have a buyer for several, so maybe that plays into it somehow.

The removal of the E120 from the fleet so fast puts a huge demand on the training dept as they retrain all of us Brasilia drivers on new equipment. There are at least 250 pilots on the Brasilia, plus a bunch of training dept and mgmt guys, so it is going to be a long process retraining everyone.

Looks like I get displaced yet again.

The result of the removal of the E120 is a net loss of a/c for the year. A net loss of 2 is the number I've heard tossed around.

All of this means we won't need a whole bunch of new pilots, and our training dept won't be able to train a bunch of new guys anyway. To that end, the class that is suppossed to start in January is going to be the last on for a while.

Finally, the five people that interviewed were all former interns. If hired, they will be placed in the pool. I haven't heard of any general interviews recently.

Hope this helps.
