ASA Bad news is out.

It's actually Skywest who petitioned the FAA to sit in on PCs and fail the pilots so as to dwindle down the list and not have to furlough.
 
The FAA would be killed for doing that. Plus the FAA does not have the manpower to do that. They will threaten to take self examining authority away if you fall below a 90% pass rate, but that is it.
They need us to do their job.

They apparently do have the manpower. There is a force of 9 SLC FSDO inspectors sitting in PCs and doing line checks at Skywest alone. Their goal is to do 350 of them by Sept. There has been a big increase of failures because of them. I hear some of the check airmen have had fights with the FAA becasue the FAA wanted then failed but the check airman says it's a pass.

BTW, the FAA is at every regional now becasue of the BUF accident. if you haven't head of the increase failures at your place, you will soon.
