Why does everyone think that LAX is going to get shrunk? Aren't they moving to a bigger terminal with more gates? Wasn't it just a couple of years ago management was talking about future growth plans for LAX?

I think that the part about the growth coming in the form of SkyWest CRJ 900s was in really small print.

With all that is going on this winter, it may turn into a bigger mess than the summer. Everyone going through training, increased vacation times, a couple of retirements, ETOPs SEA and PDX, and now for fun add in some move days for everyone. All of a sudden my furlough doesn't look so bad. At least I won't be caught in this mess.

Oh, don't worry... they'll just send out more memos encouraging the premium trip & VSA heroes to save the day. Of course, the heroes will oblige.

Picking up premium & VSA trips = profit = growth = recalling furloughs (eventually).

They way I see it, premium/VSA = profit = growth (purchasing -800 & -900ER airframes) = company looking at further reducing pilot staffing.

Okay, so I'm grumpy... always have been. :)

So what's up with the letter TK and GB sent out to the furloughs? Is it a hint of some positive news or the hot poker in our lifeless careers? One day BT is saying no recalls until 2012 and the next day this letter. Gotta love this roller coaster...where or when does one get off the ride?

The warm comfort letters and calls are a subtle ploy to find a future gathering of recall numbers. It is matter of not 'over' recalling too many pilots back on property, example; recall 93 for 50 actual; off a future vacancy. The earlier recalls(13), everyone got a call(and many picked up the phone), before the certified letters were mailed, which aided them(company) in refining a better staffing/cost assement.

Do not want to bring back too many pilots too soon do we?

Just wondering what the letter said?

The letter sent to furloughed pilots basically highlighted the accolades of the company in these difficult times. And the last bit, was re-emphasizing we(furloughees) on the street have not been forgotten.

Nothing about potential recalls, just an info letter...

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who hears that alaska might recall at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

Thank you, Simone.

Not trying to stir the pot, just posting what I heard. Info came from a good source, I hope it's true also.
We need all our guys/gals back ASAP!

What kind of numbers, if any, were talked about? Another abysmal number like 12, or an actual recall of everyone?

I checked with my sources this morning. The "official word" from the company and ALPA are no recalls this year.:crying:

(of course the word "planning" is a subjective word around here...)

I doubt they will need more guys this fall. Right now we need them but unless Mexicana tanks AND we got a fast Mexican/US government approval to pick up some of the routes I think we will be Ok on crews this fall and winter. Hope I am wrong but I think the CO. is just gonna slide through with the guys they have untill next spring then I could see some more getting the call back.

Alaska Airlines will add nonstop service between San Jose, Calif., and the Los Cabos in Mexico.

Mexicana Airlines said Monday it will suspend service to 15 destinations

The main unit of Mexicana on Monday said that it was cutting flights "to a minimum" amid falling sales and cash reserves following last week's bankruptcy filing.

According to manager of planning a few weeks ago, no bids this year which to me mean probably no recalls. They really do need more pilots for this month but I know they are counting on the fall pullback to cover the small training bubble coming.

The good news is 4 retired in Aug and one FO quit to go back to DAL (former NWA FURLOUGH who can no longer bypass). Hopefully this is starting a trend of retirements as the geezers hit 62 (eligible for their 1500/month ssi). There will definitely need to be a recall before next summer, it's just a matter of how large it will be. Although, I would be surprised if it would be large enough to bring everyone back.

Take the last three rumors, pick the one you like the least and there's a 50% chance it might come true. No, make that a 100% chance it might come true. I guarantee.

See you guys in class when I see you guys in class.
