Don't you remember 9/11, or is your memory that short? I know you will follow up with "what does Saddam have to do with the Al Qaeda?" Simply put there have been terrorist groups trained in and around Baghdad for many years. Recent evidence also suggests that terrorist cells have recieved specific training on how to hijack airplanes. Talking will do nothing when you are trying to get rid of a mad man, you must act to get rid of him. Now you will say " weapons of mass destruction, there's no proof of that." Why is it that all the people(read Liberal media types) who were looking for evidence of these weapons in order for us to be allowed to go to war are afraid that Saddam will now use these weapons on our troops. I thought you didn't believe they existed. You will be shocked when we learn the whole story about what really is going on over there and also what role the French, Germans and Russians had in it, they will be humiliated. I find it truly offensive that you blame the Bush administration for what is going on, not Iraq.

Flame away Lib types.

President Clinton was no better leader in many respects, but that doesn't have anythig to do with what President Bush is presently doing with Iraq. We're not talking about the former President. We're talking about Iraq.

This latest debacle from a President (and I will never disrespect the office by using goofy names) who believes that "Might Makes Right" will come back to haunt us. Mark my words. You heard it here first. These chickens will come home to roost. And then the hawks among us will again be calling for the overthrow of some legitimately elected governement somewhere.

Bottom line ... we're bullies and we will pay. It appears everyone in the entire f@cking planet sees that except a few who have swallowed the bait. We think we can determine which governments have a right to exist and which do not. He!! ... we HELPED SADDAM TO POWER and we also TRAINED HIS SECRET POLICE and many Army officers. We will get our collective 'come-uppence' in time. That is how life works, whether you Hawks agree that it's just or not. It's kharma, or as the Bible says "reaping what you sow".

Herman Goering said ... "Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denouce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger."

Scary times bros ....

Snakum......

"we're bullies and we will pay"

What in the heck do you think Saddam is....a choir boy?
I don't know about you, but when I voted in the last election, I don't recall seeing Kofi Anon's name on any ballot that I cast. Nor did I see the leader of France, Russia, China, Mexico, or any other country on my ballot. I voted for my candidates in Congress, and for the current president, who by our rules, won that election. I could not give a rip about what other countries populace think about it. Our congress gave the president the authority to go to war if need be, and it appears he is about to exercise that authority, as his oath of office dictates that he should. I (and others) elected the folk's in office now to defend our country, against all enemies, foriegn or domestic. WMD's in the hands of Saddam are a menace to America, and if the UN can't/won't act, then it is incumbent on OUR government to protect our country, per the constitution.

Snakum, Viva,
Thank God you don't hold a position of power. By being passive we would surely lose the war against terrorists and their kind, like Saddam. We won't be haunted by this, we will continue to fight the people who threaten our way of life and we will win.

Snakum,
I just re-read your post and I think you are so far off your rocker it's laughable. The whole world is against us? Ask the countries that are against us why they feel that way, they wouldn't answer for fear of what they have to lose when we topple Iraq. Money is why the French, Germans, Russians are against this. Arms for oil. They are not opposed to the war for some higher ideological principle. You are the blind one if you don't see that.

So now she's sorry she said it and it caused a stir. . . . . . . Well that doesn't cut it Fat Girl. I guess the snivelling dixie chick's pocketbook and public image is more important than her convictions.

VivaZapata- "preemptive attack on Iraq"

Tell me how 14 years is preemptive!! Plus, Iraq has been shooting at us for years... that's not propaganda that is fact! I just got off the phone with a friend who was patroling the no fly zone for the UN, they get shot at ALL THE TIME!

Snakum- "we're bullies and we will pay"
"we HELPED SADDAM TO POWER and we also TRAINED HIS SECRET POLICE and many Army officers"

Bullies... if that is what you want to call us go ahead.. I call us strong and unselfish country who provides the backbone (NATO) for the UN and chooses to not be reactive but proactive against threats to our peace and world peace. About Saddam, you are right, and I guess it can remind us that people change.. and about "reaping what you sow", just what would we be sowing by leaving Hussein alone, and giving him some more time?

This is a man, whom on the human rights side of the issue, no one would would call this leader anything other than evil. He has his whole entire country living in "Stockholm Syndrome."
I just recently met an Iraqi gentleman at the airport and he asked me if I flew in the military as well.. We started talking and what this man told me was incredible. He said he prays to his god for the US to stay on track and free the people of Iraq and his family members. I asked him what he thought about taking the risk of the military strike with loss of innocent life.. He responded "If we (Americans) thought Russian roulette was a horrible game, we should never play Saddam roulette," he is willing to take the risk with our guided bombs and strategic weapons, but the greatest loss of innocent Iraqi life will be caused by Saddam himself. I asked him about American sentiment in Iraq. He said it shows that the people of Iraq believe they will not be freed and would rather be seen on TV by Saddam or Iraqi leaders praising him or burning American flags b/c it could mean Saddam sees this and comes and gives the family money/wealth/or a car. But to speak out against Saddam, that would mean certain death, in fact eradication of all family members first, and if not by Saddam or his military the other Iraqis would do it b/c Saddam might learn that a citizen did this for him (kill the family, or the person who said things against the regime) and give them money/wealth/or a car... Imagine life like that. Want more facts, in the 80's he openly spoke and continues to speak about reconquering the Babylonian Empire. He speaks out openly his disdain for the US and praise for the actions of OBD. He offers riches and payouts to families of suicide bombers against what he calls "Evil countries." Is he a threat to US, his neighbors, and the free world? Is he getting a green light by the UN with his disregard for the resolutions, and seeing/feeling no action?

There is no course for diplomacy with a person who has a track record of deceit, lies, diregard for his neighbors (Kuwait), disregard for his own people, and for international law. Sounds like a leader who's handshake and word is worth talking it out with. "Let sleeping dogs lie" if I hear someone say that again I am gonna puke, he is not sleeping, nor laying down.. he is active and poising himself.

They could get rid of her. The other two have all the musical talent, and frankly, most of the looks.

The Dixie Chicks date to well before Natalie Maines. I liked them back in 1994, and Natalie was not in the group then. The other two women were though.

To me what the sad part is, is that she said all these things in a foriegn country, which smacks of cowardice to me. Why not say those things here.

Yes I have about had it with these celebrity idiots and their delusions of self importance. When is the last time a celebridiot who criticized Bush, offered anything that might work better.

At least Brad Pitt when asked what he thought said "Why are you asking me, I am an actor"

Sheryl Crow's amazing intellectual contribution was to the effect of "Well we should just not have enemies". Wow, I am just in awe of her. I guess we should just subsidize the terrorists and have Bin Laden et al, write our foreign policy.

Lately these musicians and actors whine about backlash and censorship when people do not choose to listen or play their music or do not want to watch their movies.

Sorry, its a free country. They can say what they want, and we can do that what we want in response. Its amazing what they call censorship these days. No one has a right to have their music played, or has a right to be watched.

This French woman I know was complaining to me about how bad it was that artists and musicians are possibly losing money because of airing views...awwwwwww. My heart bleeds.

I certainly cant go to my workplace and make a big public spectacle of my views and not expect to get into some crap for it.

The she said how she felt that it was nearing fascism here and how people are not allowed to air their views, or that the get in trouble when they do.

I had to reply "Oh, you mean we should be like France who told the Eastern European countries to shut up when they aired their views about Iraq or risk not joining EU?

America

I served my country for 4 years. I fought for the right for us to say and do what we like. I think that she has just as much right to say she's against this thing as the next person saying they are for it. This is America. Remember that please.

Its not that they dont have the right to say it.. They do. But being that it is a free country for all, that does not mean that people have to put up with it or like what they say. Choosing not to listen or etc, is also an act of freedom.

It isnt like she has been put in jail for saying anything or had her tongue cut out, like what would have happened in Iraq

One group, Mudvayne I think or somethink like it, called it an "act of terrorism" when some station decided not to play their music because of some comments they had said.

How can you solve an issue if you don't have a deadline that is enforceable?

You got that right!!! I can't believe that the U.N. is getting away with this nonsense.

As for Natalie.. this is not the first time she has done something like this. She slammed Toby Keith on his patriotic music. Personally, I hope she doesn't come home. The other two are fine.

let's put it in perspective

Transpose the thought process to back to the last election. I saw, and could have purchased an "Al Gore for President" baseball cap. I also could have purchased a "G.W. Bush for President" baseball cap. Does the fact that I chose not to buy the "Gore" cap make me a "censor". I think not. By not buying a "Gore" cap, I expressed my political leanings. I do the same with the entertainment celebrities. If I don't like their message, I don't buy their products!

Hello,
Students of history may recall a certain organization called the "League of Nations" formed after the "War to end all Wars". This organization had little if any influence on the conduct of world affairs nor did it "reign in" people like Hitler, Mussolini or Tojo.
The UN is an irrelevant, impotent and self-serving organization. The French feel like they must exert themselves as a "super power" with an alternative to offer the world in leadership. Well, the French would have nothing had it not been for the sacrifices of many American, British and Canadian troops on June 6, 1944.
Furthermore, the theory that we can appease and negotiate with the likes of Saddam Hussein are as ludicrous as Neville Chamberline's qoute "Peace in our time" speech after meeting with Hitler in 1939. Please wake up people and heed the lessons of history.

Regards,

ex-Navy Rotorhead

It's not as much about free speech as it is the lack of patriotism. She goes to another country and puts down HER president but won't say that here. She only said it b/c she never fathomed that it would get back to the USA. She's only sorry b/c it did. As americans, you stand beside americans. You can dispute among yourself, but don't go blabbering to other countries about what you do or don't like about what's going on in your own house. That's right, we are American's and live in this house that is OUR nation. If she had said it to this country, I'd see that as a little different. It's just the chickensh*t factor of saying it to another country. United we stand Divided we fall...................

Hey Gents,

It bothers me is that the Dixie Chicks said these comments during a concert in Europe, people paid good
money to hear the Dixie Chicks sing and not for their political opinions. The comment was not only rude
but inappropriate.

They took advantage of a situation and expressed their point of view in front of a captive audience,
Sinead O'Connor took advantage of a similar situation when she ripped up the photo of the Pope on
Saturday Night Live. Both were paid to entertain and not to give an opinion of politics.

What the Dixie Chicks did would be the equivalent if a Captain of the flight was to make an announcement
of how they support or not support the actions in Iraq, and oh yeah, fasten your safety belt. The Pilot is being
paid to transport from one destination to another and not for their political views.

I'll bet 350 and Viva wish Clinton were still in the Oral Office. What a bunch of backward thinking people. But that is their right, to be stupid and to have a forum to talk about it. Wars gave them that right

Nawww.. It is great having someone who lacks common sense in office, what is even more great is this guy couldn't even win the popular vote during the election. You may want to try a different type of coffee since your posts reak of ignorance. I feel for you, I really do.. You sound like a "puppet" in real life, sad that you buy into all this propaganda.

That's right.......Bush won the electoral vote. That's the one that counts, don't 'cha know. I shudder to think of the mess we would all be in had ALGORE been POTUS after 9-11. Thank God that idiot who invented the Internet is not our Commander-in-chief!

and the popular vote went to?? - THANK YOU:cool: I don'y recall ever saying Gore won the electoral vote.?? Thank you again.

Well glad we have "Wdumbya" in office now, I fortunately can say I did NOT vote for him....

looking forward to 2004

I am very glad to say I sent in my Florida absentee ballot for Bush - and it counted despite all of the Democrat lawyers trying to disqualify military ballots (what a way for Gore to try and become Commander-in-Chief......)

Whether you are/were for President Bush I think all things "fair" we should support him, like him or not. Service men and women are putting their lives at risk to protect our freedom so let's just agree to disagree and hope for a quick war with minimal loss of lives..

With that said may God Bless our troops and bring them back safely.

350Driver,
I'll second that - if Gore was President, I'd also close ranks as an American. I've got too many buds over there - and when the news reported Saddam was rolling out the chemical weapons - that was not a good feeling.....

Yeah all differences aside I really do hope they will be ok and come home as quickly as possible. A prayer will be said in church this sunday.

I may be rehashing something already said on this thread but I needed to give my two cents worth!:) Pres. Bush is doing something that I am sure he isn't happy with and it surely isn't his first choice. Unfortunately the UN has put him and America (again, it's America that has to take care of business) in the position to play Dad. Saddam is the little kid who thinks that he can delay punishment. America doesn't go for that. We are not a nation that just talks and never acts, if we were we would be called France. Remember back to Sept. 11, 2001. When Bush addressed the nation and world declaring a "war" on terrorism everybody was behind him, now that he is acting upon those very words, people are beginning to back out. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and this is mine. However, this is what is going to happen, like it or not, if Saddam doesn't get out of dodge, we are going to war. It's fine to complain about the decision, but never ever forget that the soldiers fighting the war are doing what they were told. Support them fully, even if you don't support Bush. Don't ever forget their sacrafices and the sacrafices that their families have made.
As for the chicken **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED**s at the UN...the UN has given Iraq so many chances it isn't funny anymore. It's time to take care of the problem. The nations that don't back this military action are the ones who don't feel that their nation is at risk from Saddam or terrorism. Those nations are like the members of a group assigned a project but they won't do any of the work...when the project is done they will put their name on it and turn it in as if they were an equal contributor. Once we liberate Iraq, you know the UN and ALL of the nations will want a say in what is done with the new government and they will get a say.

Sorry about the ranting but America always leads the way and it pisses me off to see other nations stand idly by.

God Bless Us!

Everyone needs to understand something...if nothing is done now, it will have to be done later. Sadam is NOT disarming...come'on people, he is not an honest person and you know it. All of his rigid cooperation has been to delay the inevitable.
It's one hell of a time to be alive and it's going to get worse before it gets better, but when it does, America will be on top!

The decision has been made, you can either support this or you can stand by and be a drag the war effort. I think that those who don't support this are scared, and rightly so, but hiding has never fixed a problem.

sorry, just realized how long I rambled on.

350 Driver-

You never do anything but point fingers and call names.
Your astounding lack of logical thought has actually become charming, in that it becomes more clear every day that you and your type are going to be proven very wrong.

The UN is an irrelevant, impotent and self-serving organization.

Eggsakery!

Now that we've shown the world we will answer to no one, including the United Nations - which was created to prevent the kind of catastrophe we are about to witness - who will moderate and mediate in the future? President Bush has just pulled whatever teeth the UN had. Now ... the next time some country wants to invade another one and the UN calls for assistance from the member states (a la Korea) they'll just say .."No thanks ... it ain't my business." And the next time some little tin-horn dictator wants to invade another country and the UN says "You can't do that." ... the tin-horn will say "F@ck You! I don't have oil so the US isn't interested in getting involved. So, who's gonna stop me?". We, as a supposedly civilized country, have a duty to our fellow earthlings to abide by the rules of civilized behavior. And the only way to prevent a total breakdown as in WWI and WWI is to support (and thereby legitimize) a mediating body such as the UN. But NOOOOOOO ... we just snubbed it. And now we can never tell anyone else to abide by the UN resolutions either. Unless of course, they have oil, then we can just attack. That'll keep 'em in line. Besides ... gotta have that oil! :D

We have absolutely no right to tell any country who they should or should not have in office. Who are we to decide? If we used this 'rogues criteria' that is being applied to Saddam we'd have to attack many of our allies. Where were we when the leaders of Chile, Argentina, and El Salvador were murdering their own people? Oh ... we were training the murderers. I forgot.

It is you who are blind my hawkish friends. And all of us will pay for our President's folly.

A couple of points
First, how can you "pull the teeth" of an organization that had no teeth to begin with? That was the main problem.....UN never enforced their resolutions, therefore they're meaningless.

Second, with regard to oil.....YES, WE NEED IT. Our civilization and economy would be back in the dark ages without it. For you to ignore that fundamental fact is to live in a make believe world.
We don't steal it, we buy it, and that is what makes the OPEC country's economies run. Without them selling their oil, they would be just a big sand box in the dessert.

"Immediately after the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese, the President of the United States declared war on all of the Axis powers because the U.S. at that time recognized that all of them were accomplices in the threat against the United States. We now know which countries sponsor, support, and harbor terrorists. They are Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Sudan, and Libya. It is time for the United States to declare war against these powers and to immediately strike against the tyranny that reigns on their shores."

I have decided to refrain from further comment until I hear what Ben and J'Lo have to say about all this. You all would be wise to do the same. Need to keep an open mind and don't form an opinion until Ben and J'Lo speak or People magazine tells us what to think.
