Just like the government stopped Northwest from busting up the mechanics union?

Just for the sake of clarity, the Gov. had no place to stop the NW MX union from being busted. Quite the contrary the NW MX union is not busted but alive and well. If an employee group decides to strike (ie. use the last bargaining tool they have, self help) they have decided to give up their jobs in an effort to force the company into an agreement. NW didn't bust any union, they just replaced striking workers. I'm not saying it is right to replace striking workers, but it is completly legal for them to do so.

For those that didn't know about the picketing, it was on our MEC atis deal. Personally, I think it is a waste of time. Picketting is a useless demonstration when management already knows how irritated and distgusted you are with the contract situation. I feel pretty confident that they know we're upset. I'd preffer to wish in one hand and s*#t in the other- at least I will save the hassle of nonreving and the results are the same.........

I got called for a skywest interview... hmm i'll go fly the 90 for 50 seat rates...... NOTTTTTTTTTTTT

How?

Why not picket and how would it not help?

Why did they come up with the idea to picket at this time? Why didn't they picket in Atlanta when their arses were with Delta? ASA is an ACQUIRED airline, therefore they should be thankful that they are still employed. They haven't taken paycuts or furloughs and that their life style hasn't degenerated in the time Skywest has owned them! Degeneration is what happened to the life styles at United, Delta, etc.......

SKYW pilots been working how long since their 18 month TA expired?
Do you think they'd be back at the table if it wasn't for the threat of a union.
Ya and ASA's pay negotiations are going well? Open your eyes and look what alpa is REALLY doing for you.....picketing in SGU like a bunch of hippies that can't come up with anything better to do! GO alpa? THEBEST

River Road is one of the main roads thru town. Have you ever been to SGU?

Was there last week, and the week before, and the week before, and the week before....unless they plan on hanging out on the sidewalk, they'll be pretty much hidden from traffic....not to mention it's not exactly I-405 at 8am monday morning on river road.....

Not that I disagree with your opinion of alpa (because I do agree alpa sucks for us) but, they did picket at the delta shareholders meeting and lifestyle has begun to "degenerate" as you said. SLC base closing, losing 700's, not getting 900's.

OR, you could go to UPS and fly a 747 for 727 pay....RIGHT? THEBEST

You've got it backwards there, boss. The UPS guys fly 727s for 747 pay. I don't think anyone would be complaining if Skywest had a single rate if it was a 90-seat rate.

It's kinda funny that they're picketing in St. George...nobody'll see them except the local population...the place isn't even on a main road where people driving by will see them......

So then why bother? Is the local population going to call SkyWest and demand that your contract get settled? 99% of the people here have no clue who ASA is (or care). The local population will probably pay as much attention to the pickets as they did to the add that ran in the local paper this morning. If they want more bang for the buck, they should go stand up on I-15 and people that don't even live in SGU will see them.

I think the picket line should be moved to LAS. Set up shop in front of the Cheetah Club. There will be an equal amount of people that will care there as well.

I agree.....

as for the guy that compared some skywest pilots with the guys at hojets, it's two completely different things.......This is a logical argument using common sense and reason. Picketing in St. George won't get anybody anything but busted corns on their feet. Maybe these guys should picket in the ATL in front of their company headquarters or put an add out in a national newspaper. St. George is a very isolated town, so unless their target audience is uncle Jerry and his cronies (who probably won't pay attention anyways), it's pointless to picket.

I also don't understand why they're picketing skywest now, when they were in negotiations with Delta management for 3 years (and they've gotten farther in a year with skywest at the helm)....why wasn't any action taken then????? I just doesn't make sense to me.

The fact is, the picketing isn't going to get anybody anything. Picketing, screaming, kicking...Nothing is going to make anything better right away. It may take another 4 years to get something done..and I doubt the NMB will do anything to stop that.......

sorry you missed my point. But it did lots of good there! THEBEST

Backwards, frontwards....hey its like flying a 50 for 90 or like flying a 90 for 50 pay! THEBEST

Did Duane make it? I drove by to check it out and saw a bunch of guys and gals walking the line, but didnt see Duane anywhere. Maybe he and Jerry were at lunch. (Jerrys treat, of course)

UPS pay is based upon the 757.

The more you know...

Coulda fooled me. Looks a heck of a lot better than 777 Captain pay at any of the legacies. :)

Not to get off the subject of bashing each other, but I wonder how it's going today. I'm not an ASA guy, but I really hope it shakes up the Skywest management. It there is one thing they don't like, it's to be embarrassed(sp?). Someone needs to take them off their high horse and fast. Not just for the company, but for the good of the industry.

Duane was present in spirit. That's what counts.

"Capt. Duane E. Woerth, president of the Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), alongwith pilots from Atlantic Southeast Airlines (ASA) and other members of the Association will conduct informational picketing at the headquarters ofSkyWest, Inc. (Nasdaq: SKYW). ASA operates under the "Delta Connection"livery and is a wholly owned subsidiary of SkyWest, Inc."

From this, it sounds like he was really going to be there! The days not over, but sounds like asa got stood up! Welcome to alpa! Hey, almost everyone took paycuts, but at least alpa didn't! THEBEST

I know its still early, but if Duane doesn't bother to show up...Then ASA guys better understand where they stand on the priority list.

That's a shame.

You ASA people are dumber than rocks. 15 people picketing SKYWEST AIRLINES headquarters. There is only 3 people (maybe) that work for SKYWEST INC. in that building. Locals in SGU are laughing their areses off at you.

Because the Union cards are out now, and SkyWest has deep pockets. ALPA would like to change that.

What did I say about the Spectrum? They made the union spokesman look like the bully and the local boy like the conciliatory statesman.
