Pretty sure they called today to see if I was available due to no reserves today. They never called back so I guess they found somebody to help out!

I think the business side knows that the economy is actually worsening and competition is coming like a freight train......They know that the profit numbers are coming from momentum and that when it runs out so will those numbers....They are trying to stay absolutely lean whether it is to sell the company or stay afloat in coming bad times...

I can't believe it's been two years the guys/gals have been on furlough. WOW! Now that the number is down to 44 I just can't see how bringing them all back would hurt the bottom line, especially when flights are STILL being canceled due to lack of crew coverage. 44 pilots split to 4 bases would only help the rest of the troops. As was said previously, $1.3B could get the pilots trained quickly @ any of many available training centers. This holdout seems to be personal, and it would do the Co good to eat the crow and get these pilots back. Good luck to all and I hope you get word soon!

Baja.

Spot on Tico. There was a time I thought you were all conspiracy, but after the glow of being a new hire @ AS, I see that you have escaped the hold of the Matrix. Blue or Red pill? LOL.

Actually, I think it is nothing personal. They are out of reserves, but there were no cancellations today, or yesterday, or the day before that. That is efficient. They are not going to recall unless they have to. Nothing personal.

You're right. But damn, it sure feels personal.

He's right. Unfortunately that's just the way things work at any airline. I spent three years just two people away from being recalled at HA, while those still flying piled on the recall pay. I thought that a cancelled flight would bring me back quickly, but they always found someone, somewhere, to fly the plane. So in their eyes, I wasn't necessary. It's sad, but it isn't personal. It's just business.

Happy New Year.

One FO on reserve at ANC starting at noon good for 1 day...13 ANC trips starting today.

They are calling FO's for premium pay. They can't cover 4 trips for tomorrow. Didn't answer the phone.

Yup, saw those 6 ANC FO premium trips on the board earlier. I was expecting a JA call. Sure enough, there was a voice mail on my cell phone about the two red-eye trips tonight.

It might be helpful to understand the business decision that goes into staffing.......There is a number that is used for how much money they want to spend to cover the schedule....to arrive at it they determine the acceptable level of vsa or premium coverage and the acceptable cancellation level.....None of those numbers have been hit so on the business side there is not a problem....It comes down to money...what is it worth to have a 100% schedule....or on the safety side what is it worth to prevent accidents...they will spend just enough to meet those goals and no more.....Dont look at it through pilot eyes and it will make more sense...

Are reserve guys breaking guarantee?

Are reserve guys breaking guarantee?

Not last month. A couple of LC's did but none of the Short calls did. Transition is always tough...if it's still like this by the 4th then they are in real trouble the rest of the month. But usually the staffing crisis tapers off by the 4th or 5th.

We'll see.

My lowest month since June has been 82 hours. I have been around 85+ hours per month. I am just a long call reserve scum.

sounds like reserve is no like the old days where you knew which bank of flights you were on the hook for and when they were gone, you were done.

Is life on reserve better than it was on the old contract, or worse?

Long call is self inflicted tho...

I just ralized what you meant... I agree to a point, however we gave up 4 hour call outs twice a week for all reserves for the right to have 3-4 guys/base fly 80 hour months with 11 hour call outs...and then be told that they chose to be abused.

Water under the bridge now, but why did we agree to gut our reserve section of the contract when all most of us wanted was for it to be fixed?

Because we're reserves, silly rabbit...we don't really "count." Sad but true.

SJC-GDL-SJC cancelled yesterday.
Reason: Lack of Adequate Reserve Coverage

157 pi$$ed off pax each way.

To be announced soon. A huge renovation of the N satelite in SEA. AS will take the whole thing over and United will move to the B concourse with CO.

I thought they announced that a couple of years ago? Same time as the LAX move. No more D concourse.
