So they say. That there will be one, anyway. The SEA base chief was in here yesterday saying that. He also was in talking to one of the recurrents this month and said the same thing...that they were going to put a bid out a month or so early with something like a Nov effective date.

And to answer the other question...I don't know how the positions/bases will shake out. We'll just have to see. There will be a reduction of 6 MDs on the bid, which I'm sure will have an effect...but there will be additions on the 737 as well. However...about any "growth", I still say it is all smoke and mirrors....added block hours, increased ASMs. That's not "growth" by my definition, anyway.

Hello- this may sound stupid, but in a nutshell- how does the bidding process work at Alaska? At my (regional) we have monthly bidding (for lines) and a perpetual bid (for seat position and aircraft). To change the perpetual bid we just fill out a piece of paper and turn it in.

As I understand it now, it seems as if you guys may have to re-bid what you want on an ongoing periodic basis- is that the way it works? Maybe its just the way each company uses the word "bid". (We also have "awards" and "assignments" which can get confusing to a newbie.)

Your explanation may clarify some of my (mis)understandings of what is going on with Alaska hiring plans for the future.

I think what you call "perpetual bid" we call "standing bid". The company runs the equipment bid usually twice a year where it posts available positions by aircraft, seat and base. This bid has an "effective date" when all the positions become effective. Even though the bids are only run typically twice a year, we have classes throughout the year based on these bids. "What is going on with Alaska's hiring plans for the future" are a class every month for the next 3 years (at least). How many in each class varies greatly....but typically from 8-12. The training dept, as it is currently arranged and staffed (or will soon be staffed) can train 6 crews a month max on the MD and 12 crews a month max on the 737.

Last time I talked with Dave L, he expected them to reduce the 200 by half on the June bid (effective Nov or Dec), then close it on a Jan 07 bid (effective May or June of 07). He said it would be insane to close it all at once.
6 aircraft now. If they stay on schedule (I know, I know) we should be down to 3 aircraft by Jan. The 400 freighter is still having problems - FAA wants the door run off A and B hyd (rather than its original design off A) and the locks reworked - so I would not be surprised to see the 200's around a weeee bit longer.

I know the MEC is trying to substantiate the 126 in the pool rumor via SWAPA. Who knows? I think some credibility was given to the rumor from VP Forrest's latest email to the troops. Something along the lines of "Come talk to me before you leave."

I do know the troops are not happy and something is gonna give.
 
I just received the email to do the survey today and I am really excited! Is this a step for a possible interview or is it something Alaska sent to all applicants? I have no SB and don't know anyone at AK so any info would be greatly appreciated thanks Alaska pilot wannabe!

I think that email got sent to everyone who has an application on file. I believe that they are currently updating everyone's data. Two of my friends with apps on file both got the same email and asked me the same thing. All the same, good luck to you. Its a good company to work for!!
 
If you don't know, don't worry about it. It would be irrelavent (that's a hard word to spell;) ) to you at this point.:crying:
 
Hey guys,

I started another thread yesterday, not realizing this one was here also (yes I usually run a search for answers first, but that's hard to do from a cell phone when on the road.)

I've had my stuff in for a little under 2 years. No SB. Met with them at the Women in Aviation conference this year (I'm a white guy, if you're wondering), and just got a call the other day for a June 2 interview.

Is there anything you Alaska guys can tell me about the new interview process? I understand probably no sim, but do you know when the second interview is being done, if there is one? Bonita only scheduled me for one day and didn't mention possibly staying over if it went well, so I assume you either go home and hope to get called back, or do the second interview same day?

Thanks for any help, this is the only airline I have an app in with right now because it's the only one I want to work for, so I want to be as prepared as possible.
 
You go home after the first interview, and if you pass they call you back for the second interview. I did my second interview recently with the VP of Employment Services and Capt. Spero.

Not necessarily. It can go either way. I was talking to one of the HR reps today and asked this very question. She said sometimes it is the same day sometimes they call you back. It depends on a number of factors.

I did this and it was only one question asking if you are willing to work weekends, nights, holidays, etc...
 
I got it too. I was hoping I was the only one but I know it was a mass email to everyone.

I did go to the WAI conference though so I'm expecting a call soon.

Believe me dude, I couldn't have been any more surprised when they called me. No internal recs, all I did was put in some face time at the conference. So, it's possible...

Well thanks for the input and I wish everyone luck in getting an interview. If you have interviewed please share with us that have not and if you are going to interview please don't forget about the people that are still waiting to get a call.

This thread hopefully will stay going and anything regarding ALASKA will be posted on this thread so you do not have to bounce around thread to thread.

Whew! Made it through the first interview, just got the call for the second.

Soo... does anyone have any info on what differentiates the two board interviews, other than they're with different people? Just wondering if the content of the second interview is noticeably different from the first in any way??

They put me up at the Comfort Inn SeaTac. Nice place, literally right down the road from the training center, and a great restaurant (Roaster's) within an easy walk. Oh, and a nice little park across the street, on a lake. Airport hotel areas usually suck, but this one isn't too bad.
