ATC Job Posting-Not to exceed 13 months??

I was very excited today when I saw the posting on the FAA website for Air Traffic Controller Trainee. Upon reading more details however, it says that the position is "Full Time Temporary NTE - 13 Months"?? Am I correct in assuming that this means that the training period is only 13 months...

    Right Turn off Newark 4R

(I used the search thing to see if a thread had already discussed this but did not find one) I read in a magazine (can't remember which one, sorry) that the FAA is being really dumb about a rule they have at Newark. Apparently, if I understand correctly, it was standard up until a little while...

    737-300, -400, -500 Question

From what i see on jetphotos and airliners.net, only Delta and United have replaced the HSI and attitude indicators with glass, moving map instruments on their 733, 734, and 735. What about Southwest, Continental, USAir, and others?

    R-2933

The sectional for Jacksonville seems to be saying that R-2933 is restricted only from 5000 to unlimited. Is this correct? Since that 2933 is protected from the north and west side by 2934 (which IS restricted surface to unlimited), and protected on the south side by CCAFS Class D, could you...

    Eyes Condition

So what exactly is the basis for the bias against pilots who have had corrective LASIK and other types of eye surgery? Isn't 20/20 vision corrected with surgery identical to 20/20 vision natural? What are they afraid of, that the surgery will undo itself in the middle of a flight?

    LASIK Eye Surgery

I would like to fly for the military, be it Air Force, Navy, or Air National Guard. But my vision sucks. With contacts/glasses I'm correctable to 20/15, but without correction....sucks! And from what I hear, even getting LASIK won't get me a pilot slot, that they don't like to see that in your...

    Big People in Small Planes

Ok so I have a very delicate situatioun here. One of my superiors at work, a very sweet lady, wants me to take her up flying. I took up a couple of co-workers the other day and she got wind of it and thought it would be fun to go too. I would love to take her up. I like her a lot and would...

    VFR at KMCO

I'm going up tommorow in the weeny 152, and I want to do a landing at MCO. I haven't been in that Class B in a couple years, but last time I did all I had to do was call up approach and let them know I was VFR and would like to do one landing followed by taxiback and takeoff and they would...

    Heavy

Dumb question. When does an Aircraft get "Heavy" attached to its callsign? When it's Gross Weight is such and such, or Empty Weight, or what?

    Question for Southwest Guys

Are Southwest drivers assigned to a particular version of the 73? Or do you guys fly the -300, -500, and -700 all the time, so as to make it possible for a crew to fly the -300 on one leg, the -500 on the next, and the -700 on the next? Just curious, thanks.

    707

Did the 707 when it was being used by airlines require its engines be started at the gate, since most of them without APU's needed external power and pneumatics?

    Ask the Pilot

The book by Patrick Smith. Anyone else read it? Whatdya think? I like it. Interesting to see a level-headed, intelligent reply to questions. A realy breath of fresh air after seeing many of CNN's Miles O'briens gut-wrenching attempts at explanations to similar questions. Anyone else read it?

    Question about Pilot Finance

So here's my situation. I have PPL with IFR rating, and 160 hrs total. I want to go through all the way to CFIIMEI. This is going to be expensive. I have been looking at Pilot Finance, and they sound like a good way to go to pay for the rest of my training. However, with only 160hrs, and the...

    ATC as a Job

So among the many things that I'm considering doing with my life, becoming an Air Traffic Controller has grabbed my curiosity. I have a 4 year degree. So what other pre-reqs would I require? And how about quality of life and pay? Since these two issues have presented two big strikes against my...

    AA and Photos

Since I'm an aviation dork, most of the time when I fly I like to try and get a photo of the cockpit after my flight has landed. I have found that Delta, ATA, and Jetblue always say "Yes" when I ask the flight attendant or Captain if I may take a picture of the front office. But both times I...

    Quick Question

I was checking my logbook, and saw that my last BFR review was in Feb of 2003. I think I heard somewhere that a checkride also counts as fulfilling the reqs for a BFR. Is this true? Because my IFR Checkride was in August of 2003, which would mean I'm still current till August of this year...
