    Ual hiring discussion

They did hire atleast 2 classes, maybe 3 classes directly into the 777. I went into the 777 after 14 months at CAL. Of course after CAL reduced domestic capacity all the junior 737 Captains became FO's on the 777 and the junior 777 FO's went to the 737.

    Timing your exit...2011 update

Great post Albie. Read and follow his words if you want an airline job. He helped me (and a lot of my friends) get hired in 2006. I just want to add to what he has said: 1. NETWORK should be at the top of the list. Getting the job is about timing (you have little to no control of)...

CNBC reports US Air / United in merger talks

Agreed. I dont think CAL will durvive longterm withouth the merger. Whats important to me is that we have a relative fair seniority integration. If both sides walk away pissed off....or walk away happy then the merger committees did their jobs. No matter what some say on this board the last...

CNBC reports US Air / United in merger talks

Once again no. That is why there is more than one factor to be looked at. This is not a black and white issue. Until their is a nationalized seniority system the process will never be "fair" Should the guy that has 15 tears service at UAL be screwed because of a "snap shot", no. Should...

CNBC reports US Air / United in merger talks

I would say that my friends that are at the cusp of sitting Captain would say that their career expectations are NOT arbitrary but very easy to see and account for. That is why career expectations ares only a factor. Say, for example that CAL and UAL merge, UAL is about to go into another...

    1261 days to go!

There are several reasons why pilots blame their own unions. The ALPA poll that was sent out was a joke. Overall ALPA membership voted against the change by majority. The leadership is paid by the dues of those members that voted against the change. ALPA clung to the one question that justified...

CNBC reports US Air / United in merger talks

Career expectations are difficult to guage. For instance, I have 2 friends (hired late 2004) that were B737 captains at CAL before the 12% cut in domestic capacity. They are looking to be back in that position (with retirements alone) in the next year and a half. A merger with UAL would set...

CNBC reports US Air / United in merger talks

With all due respect I think you missed the intent of "longevity" when it was added as a consideration. Longetivity is not intended to be DOH but length of actual service at your respective airline. For instance, if you were hired at UAL in 1999, furloughed in 2001, recalled in 2007 and...

H.R. 3371 Airline Safety and Pilot Training Improvement Act of 2009

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111-3371 Is this really this close to being passed? Anyone know any more about this? This bill is the one that dictates all pilots: SEC. 10. FLIGHT CREWMEMBER SCREENING AND QUALIFICATIONS. (a) Requirements- (1) RULEMAKING PROCEEDING- The...

NWA and DAL walk away from merger deal

Hopefully not. If that were true then USAIR wouldn't be where they are not, considering they fought very hard for DOH and lost......badly. Heres to no mergers period, it only help the bankers.

    Leave Airtran for United??

There may be some overlap. If they merge with CAL there is only like a 4% overlap. Both are still hiring, I can't imagine that would change a whole lot. Also figure there will be so many fences put up that if you are already there you would be in a better situation that if you tried later. Not...

FastRead Newsflash, 12/12/07 - Senate Unanimously Approves Change to Pilot Retirement

Eaglefly, Interesting, I only see one other thread that was before this one regarding the SENATE passing this measure. Considering it happened last night and I posted early this morning I dont feel partucularly embarrased. Nice post, I see that you continue to post non-sense that helps nobody.

    Thank God for the APA!

This may all be true JohnQ. I still feel that ALPA should have followed what the membership wanted and that was to oppose the age change until it was changed. If what you are saying is true then why have 3 age 60 polls to see what the membership thinks? Then after the final poll find the one...

FastRead Newsflash, 12/12/07 - Senate Unanimously Approves Change to Pilot Retirement

Senate Unanimously Approves Change to Pilot Retirement Age Limit Legislation awaits President’s signature to become lawDecember 12, 2007 Just one day after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R.4343, a bill that would raise the mandatory retirement age for commercial airline pilots to 65...

    What is B fund??

A B-fund is a defined CONTRIBUTION plan (an amount given to you each payroll period as a percentage of your income), versus an A-fund or a defined BENEFIT plan (traditional pension that guarantees a benefit, regardless of amount invested during your employment). The difference is in the word...

GI BILL question for 737 type course

I also got the 737 type (CPT in Houston) and the GI Bill will pay 60%. Make sure that the place you go is accredited or they will NOT pay you. You can write the entire amount off (I did) as long as you report the income from the Government ($4300).

    Southwest Interviews to start again.

I agree 100%. The prep I recieved was exellent. There were no "secrets" given out. It was a chance to go through your log books to explain different situations you might have been in over your flying career. This person does nothing but make you aware of how to answer your questions in a...
