Yes just speculation having flown that approach numerous times with the PAPI inop. We will have to wait and see what the NTSB concludes. -

The ILS for both 28L/R have been notamed out with all the construction and realignment of the ILS signals and will not be up until late Aug. So you either have a LOC or a RNAV approach for the 28's The LOC 28L can be challenging after MDA because of PAPI being inop also. Dont know if they were... -

I think AS pulled alot of planes out of the Mexico market after the SARS scare and wanted to give the Hawaii market a shot. I wouldnt be pleased to about making a fuel stop, but like you said the "low yield" type of pax might not mind. -

Try telling that to all the Ex Aloha/ATA pilots who used to fly 737's across the pond. Those two companies where flooded with complaints about pax being bumped and taken off before they both went out of business!! I dont see how AS would do any better! -

Green Ban, who's flying 767s half full???? HA's load factors routinely are in the high 80's to 90%. Don't know what Nw/Delta, Ua or others are but I would bet it's in the 80-90% range. -

Hawaiian adds 717s
The first 717 that is on line is from Airtran, 483HA. It was origanally ordered from Long Beach and returned to Boeing capital during the BK. Boeing did not design the 700 for ETOPS routes. What AQ,AK and ATA have done is take an INTERCONTENTAL aircraft and started running the APU the whole flight to fly over water. That's why Boeing came out with the -900ER. -
