CAL is #42, FDX is #72. I'd guess that SWA didn't participate again this year, but it doesn't specifically say that anywhere...

It depends on the unit. Some want you to live in state, some want you to live within a certain distance, some don't care as long as you can make all your flying commitments.
Just be honest about where you live or are willing to live. All the units I've dealt with were very up front about...
I agree with talondriver, but I think the biggest reason is that T-1's were running at max capacity and the T-38's had the room to take the bomber folks back. Shifting the bombers back to the T-38 opened up more slots for the heavies and allowed more students to be graduated overall.
Yahtzee,
Great post. I'd forgotten that they took the team rides out of the syllabus just before I left.
I spent way too many mornings looking at 20+ destinations trying to find one that had the wx for a team ride.
Anyway, enjoy those last few flights!
If there was a whole fleet of military beechjets, then it was probably the student's team ride (the equivalent of a solo but with two students). The fields they go to have to be VFR, low x-winds, and a whole list of other restrictions. And no, they wouldn't go looking for holes in a line of...
Congrats Slug!
I checked in with LL yesterday and at that point she said the Feb classes weren't confirmed, but it sounds like that's changed!
She also said I should be in the second class (#27 in the pool).
Get those poolee towels ready, some more folks will be drying off soon!

...on one AWACs guy. At my squadron his name even got turned into a new word:
Wang- (verb) to be hung out to dry by those in charge, screwed over, f*cked : use "Scheds really wanged me with this 3 am flight this weekend"
I'm not saying he was completely blameless by any means, but there were...
I have to second Reykjavik. The prices were steep (came out to about $9 a beer for the cheap stuff when I was there), but the women were simply amazing... and very friendly!
Bluto,
For Navy guys switching to USAFR or ANG, I'd guess 3-5 months to do all the conversion paperwork/medical stuff and get your new commision assuming you don't get held up along the way. I'm sure it's much shorter for AF folks. The units can't put you on the list for a training slot until...
Freebird's was always good, but when I was down that way I usually went over to Lake Charles for the crawfish etoufe. If you called the FBO on the way in they'd usually have it waiting for you when you landed.
Now that was some good eatin'!!!
My HR interviewer at JB (who had been with SWA for over 15 years before joining JB) mentioned that about equal numbers of pilots had left JB for SWA as had left SWA for JB. Most had switched because of domicile locations. That was 1.5 years ago though, it could have changed in the meantime.
Tred,
I also had the returned mail waiting in the mailbox when I got back in town yesterday. It's already on it's way back to you.
Happy Holidays everybody!

I wouldn't get too bent out of shape about it, they added a class at the last minute last January. They can't keep buying planes without hiring someone to fly them. Anyway, here's some better news...

Pretty cool video.
Ever notice how the Navy seems to have better luck than the other services with Hollywood? Top Gun and Officer and a Gentlemen probably did more to help recruitment than any commercials they've ever run. I know applications to the Naval Academy went up something like 70%...
Erk183,
Sorry if it sounds like a smart-a$$ answer, but the only way to be #1 is to do better than everyone else who selects that week. How good you have to be depends completely on who you're competing against. Plenty of zero-hour folks have been #1, so it's certainly possible. But...
Skyward,
Go to the end, there is a chart for drill pay on the last two pages. That's what reserve pay is based off. How much you get paid depends on how many drill periods you do in a given month. The more you fly, the more you make.
CC,
International students were training with the Navy long before JSUPT. I think there were six or seven nations with students at Whiting when I went through, including Saudi's and Kuwaiti's. It was each nation's choice which service their students trained with.
FWIW, I think you should...
