Renew, absolutely, no question!
A lesson learned years ago, don't ever let any kind of cert. you carry in your wallet expire, especially if the renewal is relatively painless and inexpensive. You just never know when something will come up.
Just looking for an average, what self-imposed flight time limits (if any) do most corporate Part 91-only flight departments adhere to, say, for 2-pilot crews, domestic ops? Similar to 135/121 rules, or way off the chart, or, none at all?
Thanks.
Fly early, 6a.m. to noon. Lots of routes possible, but I-80 to SLC, then I-15/I-84 to BOI probably keeps the crossing elevations the lowest. I won't go into detail here, there's lots of info available regarding mountain flying, high DA, and leaning procedures, but, basically, learn to use that...
The C550 may be operated either 1 or 2 pilot. It is my understanding that you (the captain) may elect to operate any given flight as a 2-pilot flight, designating himself PIC and you SIC. Provided you meet all the training and currency requirements of 61.55, you may then log SIC time. I'm...
Yeah, so, I just noticed a news tidbit from a few months ago that I'd missed. Along with consolidation of AFSS, L-M is supposed to take over DUATS/DUAT as well. (No timeline specified, just part of the grand Barbarians at The Gate scheme.) Thus the registration drill, I imagine eventually the...
OK here's the scenario: 135 Basic Operator, limited to 5 pilots by ops specs. Approved company check airman is a D.E., used on a contract basis, not a full time company employee (and not an FAA guy either), stays qualified per 135.295, 135.297, 135.299, but does not fly any charter trips. Does...
Our small outfit reviewed a few of the pay-for products, and settled on the free Google calendar. Not aviation specific, but so far it's covered our needs for an online company schedule.
Long Beach did a good job, and, IMHO, way nicer place to spend time than Wichita. But, at least when I was there this fall, Long Beach FSI's 200 sim is all steam gauges with a KLN90B. If you'll be in newer one with EFIS/FMS, etc., it's probably worthwhile to go to another center. (Especially...
Hard part can be getting comfortable enough to fly to ATP-standards in a PA44 if you don't have any time in one. I went while current in a Cessna 340, and it was tough to be that good in a plane you're not that familiar with. It can be done, though.
Maybe you could set up your next 121 ride as...
BE200 down last night on the way to BZN. This one's close to home.

(I know, I need to get a life!)
This one should be required reading: "Acts of Faith" by Philip Caputo. A fictional novel, but a good read. Lots of aviation stuff in it.
(Can't attest to the accuracy, I've never been there, but it was a good story.)...
Here's another with some useful operating tips:
http://www.ramaircraft.com/Maintenance-Tips.htm
One good general operating tip I've heard, regarding power changes, is to treat every power change as if you're holding a raw egg(s) between your hand and the power levers (especially the...
