We have both 100's and 200's. They are all old.
The 757/767 are the planes flying out of Miami. I don't the A300 is doing much if any flying out of there.
I guess the gus that fly the A300 like it for the most part. It is slow so it's not the 1st choice for long flights. I think they...
Life on the Whale,
We are losing much of our flying to the MD-11. It looks like they want the 747 to be a domestic carrier in the future. We will keep Homolulu, Anchorage, and Hong Kong, but that will probably be about it. Rumors of doing Portland, BFI, Dallas, and maybe OAK - PHL are out...
Unlike de727ups I fly the big iron (747) and the same pay rates don't bother us at all. Captains are living quite comfortably I believe. The percentages for the other seats suck. There is a hidden B and C scale here for people on the property less that 8 years. That is one of the things...
UPS Rates
Our 12 year Captains make the same no matter what equipment they fly. Their rate is $190 an hoour.
We are looking closely on what kind of cut Delta takes. If it ends up being the 9% like the pilots have offered then we stand to get a good raise in the new contract.
As far as big brown goes you can check their website http://www.ups.com for job openings. We are still waiting word on hiring. The next system bid is slated for March. If we are going to hire no one will have the final word till February I am guessing. They are running out of FE's that are...
There would be no reason to wait for the upgrades to finish before training new hires. Since all new hires would be FE's there are instructors there for that purpose only. More than likely they would be trained at the same time as the front seaters since our simulators can accomodate it.
My...
I flew in there many times in the C130 and I will have to agree with Dogg the real challenge is flying the NDB and then circling in the bowl to land on runway 30. Whenever I went in there there was always a Coast Guard Cutter or some other ship with tall masts sitting at the end of the runway...
Not much going on in the winter. Most of the bush flying jobs start in the spring and last till early fall.
What do you want to do and where in AK? There are lots of guys/gals on the forum here with AK experience.
I know Island Air in Kodiak is usually looking for new blood but I am not...
Are you saying there is something wrong with polyester pants? Especially in brown? The company thinks it is important that we look professional at all times. Even though the times we are out in public everyone is sleeping.
Ties are a pain. Maybe we can were Bolo ties. they are smaller and...
They basically gave us their plan for the next year. Including the aircraft deliveries and retirements of other aircraft.
We are getting 4 MD-11's and 8 A-300's.
Returning 2 747's on lease
Parking 6 727's
They are planning 1 more bid. Of course they never know what's going to happen so...
Nathan,
If you fly flacons you don't have to worry about flying in bad weather, or worry about going too far offshore either. They spend most of their time going to air shows and flying Admirals around.
If you want a real challenge fly H60's or Hercs and make your way up to Alaska. The...
Nathan
Saab Driver makes a great point, if you don't get selected for Flight Training out of OCS DON"T WORRY. If you want to go to flight school and you are physically qualified then you will go. That is basically the way it has always been. Just do you job as well as you can. Also, it is...
bogberto,
I threw boxes in college for UPS and made sure that was in my resume. I asked about it during my interview and they said they noticed it. I am certain it helped.
Not really sure it matters. It is about 50/50 military civilian. A few in my class that were civilian flew freight, both large and small operators.
If you have the time and some help on the inside then you stand a good chance.

Do you get the same rhettoric from management about pay scales as we do?
Please read the article and see what the company spokeman has said about pay scales between us and the pax people. Especially the last sentence. Thanks

As passenger carriers cuts back...
In my class the flight times ranged from 2000TT (military) to over 10,000+ Civilian. There is no ryhme nor reason to it. Although getting some help from a Manager at UPS (i.e. LOR, or personal phone call to HR) helps immensely. The manager needs not be a Pilot type. But the higher the...
