Under the contract you have to have X amount of hours off after so many crossings. I believe, this is why the trips are broken up. The crew members are getting their rest on their days off.

Its basically 3k per year of service for captains under the new contract, so 60k is your ball park figure.

Ok. The guys sitting reserve in PHX & EWR are based in ONT & SDF respectively. Their trips started w/ a commercial to those cities and then their assignment is to sit reserve.
If they could somehow get them to legally cover an I'ntl trip they will. In MIA when we are sitting hot reserve...

Commuting policy is if you are listed on a UPS jumpseat and the plane does not make it or you are bumped by the company then you are safe.

I'd like to stay in Atlanta so Air Tran is a good option there.
If your question is lifestyle. You would have a better home life not commuting, but if your looking for the lifestyle of the rich and famous - well you shouldn't be a pilot.

There was a guy in my class who worked part time for the x-mas sort. Not flying, but sorting packages. He was then looked at as part of UPS and transfering divisions, UPS loves to promote from within. Plus he now had a positive employment history, etc. gets the interview. Brilliant!!
So...
In comparing it to my previous UAL life I enjoyed commuting at UPS more. I never thought i would want to be on the road for six days, but the 8 days off is very nice. At Ual all I ever seamed to be doing was commuting one way or the other.
