As I said in my previous post, I earned my seat. It is no secret that upgrades here do not work entirely on seniority. There is a vetting process and a rigorous set of hoops to jump through. We all have thousands and thousands of hours on heavy equipment when we get the call for command. Please do not imply that I'm unfit for my seat. The retired British Airways 744 skipper who did my final check didn't think so.

As for flight deck behavior... GL, you are welcome to conduct yourself as you please in my flight deck. No issues on my end. In fact, I'll let you throw gear for me anytime.[/QUOTE

You are one arrogant MF

Not sure who the best airline in the world is.

But my airline has - since it's inception - over 25 yrs ago;

NEVER furloughed its pilots

NEVER displaced Captains to FOs due to contraction

NEVER issued a monetary pay cut

...and FINALLY... welcomed furloughed DAL/NWA guys thrown onto the street
....with open arms.

I'm happy you work for the best....17 years in the RHS has certainly given you ONE point of view.

Stay at the sandpit dude.......

but your company will not do to us what they did to Qantas pilots so
go drink more koolaide from allah

BTW I upgraded in 7 years

http://www.seattlepi.com/business/boeing/article/Report-Emirates-negotiating-record-Boeing-order-4932693.php

Emirates airline is "in advanced negotiations" with Boeing on what could be a record-breaking order, The Financial Times reported Sunday.

Specifically, Emirates is looking ordering 100 to 175 777X airliners, becoming the launch customer for the revamped version of Boeing's large, two-engine jet, according to the story. The order could top $30 billion at list prices, although customers routinely get substantial discounts.

Boeing's current record order is Lion Air's deal to buy 230 737s, worth $22.4 billion at list prices.

Emirates is the largest 777 customer in the world, with 139 ordered, including 61 yet to be delivered. That's nearly twice as much as second-place Singapore Airlines, which has ordered 73 777s.

Emirates also is looking into buying more Airbus wide-body aircraft, including super-jumbo A380s and composite A350s, The Financial Times reported.

This is a US Major airline board

Moderators take this and put it on the Foreign Airlines section

thank you

but your company will not do to us what they did to Qantas pilots so

There is only one group that can be blamed for what happened to the Qantas pilots contract and the outsourcing to Jetstar...., that group is the Qantas pilots themselves.

Sniper does not work at Delta, he's a Mesa guy that failed his psychological interview at Emirates and won't let it go. Want proof, just look at his history of posts

Get help dude

To paraphrase one of my favorite movies, "The more you post, the less intelligent you are." (I'll buy the beer for the first person who can name that flick)

Wow, that movie you forgot must be the Spoken Truth! Do you also believe in Star Trek? You probably are a Klingon, heading straight for Uranus.

Bye Bye---General Lee

Well it seems you confirmed Gillegan's observation General Sherman.

By the way. If you're curious as to why I don't call you by your chosen username, it is because I believe you have more in common with General William Tecumseh Sherman. Just like he left a trail of scorched earth and destruction in his infamous "March to the Sea", you troll through these forums and destroy any chance of an adult, enlightening discussion to the issues which affect us all.

Then again, General Robert E. Lee did lose, so maybe that username is appropriate.

What is your opinion of DECs (out of seniority)? How about not getting to bid EXACTLY what you should hold seniority wise for trips? How about surrendering your passports (maybe for family??) when in DXB? (You can verify that one) how about no control over profit sharing? How about having to ask your boss to get married to a co-worker (another Gulf Carrier)? How about bidding another plane--cross fleet (can you proactively bid?).

Btw, my 16 years in the RHS (1 year sideways as an FE) has been by choice. I could have been a narrowbody Capt years ago, but I enjoy my QOL right now, and want to bid LHS on something I want to fly. I certainly would stay RHS rather than go to the ME. Looks like TP would have started over on a 717 rather than stay at EK. Read his quote below, I placed it there for you.....

So, please answer my questions above.

Bye Bye---General Lee

To answer your questions one at a time - and none if this is spin - I'll give you them warts and all.

DECs - I detest the policy but would never hold it against the individual I was flying with including DAL DECS I flew with when I was an FO.

BIDDING - I have never worked at an airline where I got 'exactly' what I wanted. If you have that after 17 years, I'm envious - you earned it. BUT our bidding system does not relegate the jnr pilot to endless years of RSV. Every five months you are 'top bid' the second top then mid bid etc. What this means is that in your two top bid months you generally get what you want and in mid to lower bid groups it's a crapshoot. It means that you at least will be senior in your award to 80% (60%, and on down as the months changes)of the rest of the guys every six months. The system has changed recently and I had the old system down to a T. I'm just figuring out the new and I've been told it's changing again. That said my roster as a 777 always has great variety and I rarely don't open up the award and go 'great'. Our route network is unparalleled. The 330 guys - disaster. India T/As

SURRENDERING PASSPORTS. I have no idea what you are talking about. You give your passport to Visa authorities for two days every three years to get the new stamp - the same as when you renew your passport at the US Embassy. Other than that total BS

PROFIT SHARE CONTROL- absolutely true - we have no control and serve at the discretion of mgt. Since May of 2007 I have had 29 weeks of profit share and a 32.5% increase in salary (that's not including the big jump you get when you upgrade )

ASKING PERMISSION TO MARRY: LOL, Complete and utter crap. Can't speak for other places - let's stick to Dubai.

BIDDING TO CHANGE A/C: you cannot bid to change fleets - the rule is "you get what you get and you don't pitch a fit". As operational needs arise they open certain fleets to transfer which is what is happening now. There are currently movements from LHS 777 to LHS A380 based on people wanting it and being awarded it based on seniority. But beware , I know of a class that lost a pilot due sickness the night before and they called in order of seniority the next on the list only to award it to the first to pick up the phone. This is Emirates they will not let a technicality get in the way of business, not always good for us.
When you join You may tell the recruiters: I want X or I'm not coming and let the chips fall as they may. I was told because of previous Boeing Heavy time it would be the 777. If I arrived and they changed it - tough.

GL - like you, my time here is by choice. We are unbelievably happy here. The school is great, the wife has a great job , I love the flying, there is no crime. The kids activity list is off the charts, the places we have seen by accessing from DXB have been excellent. The social life is almost too much - beers & barbies all the time....the nightlife/foodie scene in DXB for those interested is world class...BUT

I am not saying it's for everyone...we have certainly have issues over here to complain about...as do all pilot groups. But that's our business...and yours is yours. There is this non-stop knee jerk defensiveness from you and your lot that seeks to justify your decisions in life by criticizing others should you perceive they enjoy a 'gain' over you...you have done it with all the others SWA, AA, AirTran, regionals etc...it dilutes any credibility that some of your posts. have.

You just have to stop telling us our lot in life is bad. Our work rules are not like yours ....BUT however neither is our career progression...to each their own.

The center of global aviation has shifted...it just so happens that we timed it well over here ....when the next shift occurs ...I'm following it, until then I'm enjoying a helluva ride.

You are happy I am happy....but if you attack EK pilots - then prepare for a response...

Wow-sounds like some pretty pissed off crew members in the ME.
http://www.pprune.org/middle-east/515487-roster-disaster.html

"Profit share, salary steps and bidding system are only here for recruitment advertisement.

Once in, you will all discover that such things have no effect in EK reality."
And another:
"How about over 50 hrs in 2 weeks, leave for two weeks, no days Off before or after. Not top bid but not bottom either. Have leave and pay the price for it as clearly the leave credit is severely deficient.
Gents and ladies, Hello Tomorrow signifies just that, a paradigm shift towards increased rape and pillaging."

Also, who can afford to live there. Seriously, not making this up:
http://www.pprune.org/middle-east/526794-who-can-afford-living-dubai.html

Yikes-no thanks.

jonjuan,

I think that you will find that all of the guys at EK will be very honest about the conditions and the way things work over here.

Unfortunately, due to ignorance, bigotry, and the low maturity levels, we don't get the chance to seriously discuss topics as we do on pprune. We spend more time correcting absolutely false information, half-truths, and rebutting personal insults on here than we do anything else. Most of this inflammatory and misinformation is posted by the same two or three people. I don't know information about Delta or United from the inside, so I don't post about it claiming I do. Unfortunately, that is not the case when it comes to a few mostly Delta guys regarding Emirates.

This is an aviation information board. If you were looking at jobs or trying to find out information about a specific company, it would be important for you to have accurate information so that you can make an informed decision. If we didn't constantly have to refute the BS postings of 1 or 2 individuals, you may actually get the same kind of useful information here.

Wow, that guy thinks he can rule the world, all because he backs huge loans. Germany and France seem to disagree. They know, as well as countries like the US, that there aren't many quality big plane manufacturers out there. So you wanna fly big? Take a pick between the two. Otherwise, go to Antanov or Comac......

Bye Bye---General Lee

Kind of like Obama showing up on TV giving his 2 cents when the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, or any country, farts the wrong way.

The US government backs huge loans also. Probably the biggest in the world. Your point?
