Link above: SWA's Bob Montgomery states; "As part of this evaluation, we welcome the opportunity to discuss funding alternatives with the goal in mind to maintain the low cost structure we have both worked so hard to maintain at Hobby"

What exactly does that mean? If SWA is paying for it, what's a "funding alternative"? The city has also worked hard to keep the costs at Hobby low!?What's that mean? Kinda makes me wonder where the $110k for the study ended up even more. Did they work that hard to help CAL? Or did they just want a huge airport built/paid for by someone else? These five gates need to be bid out. If nothing else, run the price up on SWA. Wouldn't that be more like a free market? Have an auction. Let bidders decide what it's worth. Don't just hand it to SWA for pennies, because they asked real nice...

You seriously think you've found some Smoking Gun here with Bob's statements?

It's business and negotiations 101 flop. Houston has bent over backwards for CAL in the past 20 years, and what did that get them? Hey, we're headed to the windy city thanks for all the help over all the years. I have to agree with wave, there was never really any loyalty to Houston, it was just convienent at the time!

I think people are making the mistake of using flightinfo rant as a representation of the overall attitude of a pilot group. Let's take a step back from the almighty forum and return to a hint of logical thinking. 99% of Southwest pilots I talk to have no desire to be the "highest" paid or be #1. They just want to go back to the good old days of being "second tier". There are a few on here who have landed themselves a SWA job in recent years and think they are top doodoo, but most just realize how lucky we are to be in the position we are in.

A world class airport that will sustain a growing Houston economy with connections all over the planet. Basically, the opposite of what you want and feel entitled to build. Yeah, UAL headquarters moved to Chicago. We're still Houston's 1st or 2nd largest employer.

To add to it look at what AT will be doing out of SAT. It will happen just not out of IAH. If you are worried about us, you need to worry about open skies part two. This will destroy all US airlines.

Flop u give a lot of threats if UAL does not get what they want.
What is stoping UAL from down sizing or pulling out even if they get everything they are asking for ?

Flop,

What is good for CAL is good for you, what is good for SWA is good for me. Denying SWA Int'l service out of HOU, is a win for CAL (good for you). You are not the honest broker in this argument (as are any SWA pilot on here who responds). This will come down to the City Council, who have handshake deals with CAL and have invested heavily in IAH, that does not make them an honest broker either...it seems that $130 fares to Bogota will be trumped by whatever promises took place between UCAL and the City of HOUston...
