SWA will be hiring again shortly. Look for positions to be posted towards the end of the month and a start date of the first part of April. Class size of 10. With the Air Tran folks moving to DAL over the next year, I wouldn't expect much hiring off the street for awhile after this class.

Not exactly aircraft dx but this could be promising for some

Union Pacific train line is looking for Apprintence Train Dispatchers. Good salary and shift work not unlike the airlines. Good pay too. I also believe this is one of Warren Buffet's companies. The only downside might be having to live in OMA.

For anyone that might be intrested, they strongly perfer a Bachelor's Degree and background in ATC could be useful. Also, they will close this positon sooner if they get enough apps.
 
Initial assignment will be to the "Extra Board". Those employees on this list are subject to call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A three year commitment to the position is required after qualification.

Pay is OK but this seems a bit harsh, I could do without the 24/7 leash.

True. I suppose it would depend how much one wants it. It would seem however they would have some duty limits or mandatory days off after being assigned so many in a row.

Maybe in the US, but I know a guy here in the UAE that signed up for a VIP charter job that required 24/7/365 availability. He now has stomach ulcers and hates life. Trust me, that is not worth it no matter what the pay is. That is the definition of being "owned". I don't want the possibility of my chain getting jerked when relaxing, drinking a cold one and watching a football game.

Position Summary:
The Dispatcher plans for the safe and efficient operation of each
JetBlue flight in compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) and
Company guidelines. The Dispatcher specifies conditions such as fuel
required, alternate airports and any aircraft restrictions. The
Dispatcher formulates operating plans and communicates them to the
System Operations team.
Essential Functions:
* Flight planning for safe and efficient routes of flight, including
fuel requirements, alternate airports, and aircraft restrictions
* Brief the Captain on potential hazards, delays, runway construction,
and curfews
* Ensure takeoff and landing parameters are met
* En route flight following until completion of flight
* Proactively prepares for and manages irregular operations
* Ensure compliance with all requirements of Federal Air Regulations and
Company procedures

* Computer and other office equipment
Work Environment:
* Normal office environment
* Normal cockpit exposure per FAA required Dispatch duties
* Flexible hours/shift work required to cover operation twenty four (24)

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
* High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Diploma
* Bachelor's Degree preferred but not required
* Valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Aircraft Dispatcher
Certificate
* Currently in possession of a valid Passport with the ability to travel
in and out of the United States
* Two (2) years Dispatch experience preferred but not required
* Two (2) years Aviation experience
* Exceptional communication skills with complete fluency in written and
spoken English
* Regular attendance and punctuality
* Organizational fit for the JetBlue culture, that is, exhibit the
JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Fun and Passion
* Well groomed and able to maintain a professional appearance
* Pass a ten (10) year background check, pre-employment drug test and
criminal history records check (CHRC)
* Legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is
located
* When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all
capable Crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the
aircraft
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
* Able to work in a team environment
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Strong attention to detail
* Strong technical knowledge of aircraft performance, navigation,
weather, and federal air regulations
Physical Effort:
* Generally not required, or up to 10 pounds occasionally, 0 pounds
frequently. (Sedentary)
