"Tell the pilot to stop being a *************************. If there is not ice on the wings then it doesn't need to get deiced. If he has a problem with that bring him to Columbus and I'll explain it to him in person!"

Eric Lampert VP and DO @ Netjets, talking to Crew Ops Agent,
(overheard as I was out with my hubby and a few others at a Blue Jackets game the other day)

lololol.....wow that is funny right there.

I don't know what is so funny. Eric, Jen, the Hubby and I (and others) went to a Jackets game against the Red Wings a few weeks back. Jackets won in OT, Modin scored if I remember correctly.

My husband is one of the displaced ACPs who is back on the line and I worry about the push to save on de-icing otherwise I'd stay quiet on this.

Funny, in 10 years with the company, I've never asked permission to de-ice. Jet needs it, jet gets it. My decision. And I've never had anybody in management ask me about it after the fact.

Its been years but by happenstance I saw the receipt at HPN Signature to deice a Hawker covered with snow and it was around $3500. Type I and IV.

I am trying to compile some data on aircraft de-icing costs: Please post what your minimum and maximum costs have been to de-ice your aircraft this year, type of aircraft, whether it was wings and tail or total de-ice, airport de-ice took place, FBO used and if you remember, the amount of time it delayed your departure to get de-iced.

Thank you

Cheaper than crashing.

Well I've only been with the company for 5 years, so in our combined 15 years with the company, we've had the same experience.

That is why they pay us the big bucks.

Luckily, NJA seems to be pretty on top of the weather. I've found that if de-ice is going to be required the next morning the company USUALLY already has us on the hangar list. It is one of the FEW times the company doesn't step over a dollar to pick up a dime.

Of course, if one of those pesky Gulfstreams is hogging the hangar, I can't fit my XL in!!!;)

Very true. The company has always understood that hangars are cheaper than deicing and deicing is cheaper than crashing. Sometimes, there's no room at the inn and we're stuck spraying glycol. Like a few years back in Calgary when a freak May overnight snowstorm dumped 4 inches of nasty stuff on the jet. Took 30 minutes of SPRAYING to clear the plane. Would have hated to see that bill.

Going on my third vacation since October after the next tour and then recurrent. I'm a desert rat and I HATE deicing so....
