For the Atlas pilots out there, I realize that the 200s are being phased out gradually, but what is the lifestyle/schedule like on the Classics vs. the 400 nowadays? Do all pilots still fly roughly 14-17 days in a row away from home or can you get blocks of days at home in between longer trips (i.e., 7 days on, 3-4 days off, etc.)? Should you just plan to be gone for a few weeks in a row every month or is there some variety in schedules?

Just trying to understand the lifestyle implications for newbie Atlas pilots when hiring begins down the road.

FWIW: Personal friend of Polar CP told me Polar will resume hiring in about 8 months

Theoretically, you can get two blocks in a row, and so end up on the road for 30+ days in a row.

The Classic up until Q4 was quite slow. There is definitely an uptick for the -200. STN has been closed so 17 days in a row is not the "majority" although it definitely still happens. Changes are under way at Atlas so we can revisit these questions probably by spring to get a more accurate picture to what is going on. We have 39 furloughees still out, I hope recalls are in their future soon. It'll be great if we see any hiring in 2010.
 
There are persistent rumors of a light twin in Atlas's future. Polar hiring, only to replace some leaving. No growth at Polar, six planes is it.
 
I would have your resume up to date. word is we(polar) will add 2 more 400`s to take us to 8. 10 captain upgrades starting after new year. you could see the resume window open here soon. hope it helps..
 
What is the status of the Atlas/Polar world as pertains to hiring? A while back I think I remember that it was to be all one pool with the coming merger. Is that the case or are there still two separate pilot groups?

Whoever says Polar will be hiring needs to be drug tested for cheap imitation Chinese crack cocaine.

They are simply overstaffed. Most of them can't break guarantee.

Don't hold your breath!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
well,, then i guess i need a random drug test. so if you dont break guarantee you`re overstaffed? hmmm, reserves are flying and getting extended(more cash),,the average line value is 70hrs, 5hrs above guarantee,,,, so maybe you need the drug test.

Sounds like good news. I was just referring to previous statements by AAWW management that Polar would remain a 6 airplane operation. Any extra flying would be ACMI'd to Atlas. Things change. With DHL as 49% owner, anything could happen. Ask the ASTAR and ABX guys what they think of DHL.

With some growth at Atlas (SONAIR) and at Polar, things are looking up.

Any idea where the two planes are coming from?
 
this is aviation,,things change by the minute. hopefully things are turning for the better. time will tell. take care

at atlas? i think so. once they get the passenger gig up and running, that should get the rest of the guys off the street at atlas. i believe it starts in the first quarter of 2010.....
 
They've got a pill for that now.

Word from a friend working there is that they should be adding something like 7 airframes in 2010 and will hopefully be hiring around May or so.
 
since they closed STN have all the AABO/AACS folks been "made redundant" as they put it over there.

used to work there and basically quit because of the no travel to stn issue, but lucky for me, they changed it right after i left.

would like to get back maybe, been talking to D.B in puzzle palace and it was said no hiring for a year or more. due no attrition and people still out on furlough, made it sound like as soon as they fixed STN issue the revolving door just stopped and no one leaves now.

Does any of you Atlas or Polar drivers know what is going to happen to the hiring pool? I would assume their going to flush it!
