I've heard from a few people now that asa scheduling is 'hiding' open time so they can give it to reserves and line holders can't pick it up. Would this be legal under the contract or is this just a good rumor?
 
Wouldn't surprise me for a second. With the BS those oxygen thiefs pull, all things are possible.

On a side note, I know a lot of people picking up extra flying from the open time pot. WTF people. Is it suddenly ok to pick up extra flying with furloughs now? Did I miss the memo?

actually you did (well, the thread at least)....depending on your view of the issue (do you believe not picking up open time would bring them back or not), its either ok (or not) to pick up open time while they are out on furlough. Of course nobody could agree and nothing was resolved...imagine that.

Thats assuming you care what the "other side" thinks about it.

Yeah cause there's just soooooo many reserves sitting around doing nothing. :erm:

I guess I didn't read the rest of that thread that I think you're referring to.

I don't agree with hastling people about picking it up, because we all have our reasons, and there really are bigger fish to fry. BUT when I see people who are picking open time due to financial irresponsibility post furlough (you know who you are) that is really frustrating.

politicians are picking up open time?!?!?! WTF?
 
Sadly, neither McNug or the furloughed guys or ALPA writes my check to keep my family clothed, fed and housed. Therefore, I will continue to pick up open time.

It is my understanding the number of block hours dictate when the furloughed guys get called back since there are min staffing requirements. That will be the only thing that changes how many pilots are on property.

Sounds a lot like what screw support does at skywest.

Which is exactly why I said "we all have our reasons" for picking up extra work. What I was refering to are the dweebs that spend themselves into a hole, then are forced to fly extra to make up the slack because they can't afford the life they are living.

2. Known Flying Withheld from Line Construction
a. All known flying for the following month will be con-
structed into trips and then into regular lines, except the
Company may withhold up to three and one-half percent
(3.5%) of block hours of known flying in each category.
Such known flying will be withheld as trips before the line
construction process. All remaining trips will be placed in
initial open time.
b. The Company will provide to the ASC the total scheduled
block hours of known flying in the following month and
the number of block hours withheld to verify the calcula-
tion of the three and one-half percent (3.5%) of block
hours of known flying withheld. The Company will provide
the ASC a list of the actual trips withheld.
 
If captains weren't picking up open time then FOs could upgrade. There's no reason that lines need to be constructed as unproductively as they are. Some people need to pick up more flying to stay above water, for whatever reason. I can't fault the FO or Captain who's supporting a wife, kids, a mortgage, and the car payment, but if you don't need to pick it up, don't do it!
 
nah; i never have much luck with him honestly

Well, he's not a mindreader... if you want something from him you're going to have to call him.

If you request something that he isn't delivering to you, then follow up with the MEC chairman or your rep. But I doubt that will be an issue.
 
I've called several times in the past on other issues and he has not returned my calls or emails. been there, done that. I know he's a busy guy and I wouldn't want his job, but you seem to be very interested for some reason. hmmm.

You have hit the nail on the head! The guy has been in trouble upteen million times with ATC and the FAA. The reason he is a chairperson is because the union will protect his job to great lengths...

PD is a total ass-he is rude to dues-paying union members, and he is not on the pilot's side-at all. PD would love to weasel himself into mgmt. one day, but they don't want him any more than we do!

-Anyone who has flown with him and actually observed him picking/eating boogers (and trying to fly into stuff) knows what a freak he is. The union and the pilot group would both be much better off if he just decided to quit and go drive a dump truck one day!

-Remember what a jackoff he is the next time elections come up! PLEASE kick him out of office-we would all be better off!

I think YOU are PD! I have never-in all my time at this company come across one single person who has defended him... The man is a horrible rep, and a god-awful threat to aviation in general.

I have also called and not had my calls returned. Same with a friend of mine also.
 
So to talk more constuctively, how do you get PD out of his position. He was not elected to that post, correct? I doubt you're going to get anyone to want to do that job, that's one reason why he still has it.
 
How long has he been in the post; just curious? I'm sure at some point dealing with these problems everyday would have to wear you down.
