I ran into a mx supervisor from Cape Air this weekend. He said they are starting mx training for the Q400 which will be their new fleet type once Southwest acquires them. He seemed pretty excited about the whole deal. Anybody else have any info on this?

Hell it makes sense! Could you see SouthWest with a fleet of about 50 Q400's?

That would put the knife in US Airways! Bye Bye East Coast!

Whats funny is that about 5 years ago there was rumors (rumors now) that SouthWest was interested in Piedmont when Airways was Chapter 11.

funny this surfaced. Was talking to a friend in Denver last night who is a mechanic for Lynk. He was saying that an unnamed airline will be taking 2 Q400s from Lynk later next month and possible leasing another 3 Q400s for 6 mnths until they can take delievers of more planes. He mentioned that they will be pulling 1 of the Qs May 1st so this airline can do proving runs. I thought this sounded like another MX bs rumor but when FishPaw brought this up...who knows maybe there is something behind it? Could this be a way to help frontier exit ch 11?

...and they are doing a ratioed integration...

I have a friend over at Cape that is a senior captain! He can't wait for the ratio so he can go straight to 73 captain!

Why is it that the mx guys always come up with the best rumors? Must be the fumes...

Seems as though they like the Q's a lot too, at least a couple of our mechanics here were very firm that we were getting the 400's "any time now" and they'd already had guys in "differences training"...

yeah sorry LYNX...don't work there and honestly don't know much about them. What my buddy told me seemed legit. He is a good friend and would have no reason to BS me. I don't work for either company so I really think what he had to say at least had some truth to it. BTW he is a shift manager and had heard this in a meeting last week. He will be doing some of the work on the two planes before they go out to MA to Cape Air.

PSA is going to buy Linsday Lohan

Hell, I have $.73 rumbling around in my pocket-that would probably be enough to buy Lindsay Lohan-or at least rent her for about an hour or so...

that would be great we would not have to worry about integration regarding pay...the top captain at cape air can start at SWA first year FO rates and be getting a raise. Who comes up with these rumors...this one is the best of all.

Who the hell is Cape Air ;-)

This is exactly what is wrong with our industry. Just like when I jump on some of the cargo carriers and they say who is Chautauqua. You aren't gate agents people. If everyone were to edjucate themselves about at least the carriers in there country our proffesion would be much better.

$$$4nothin, I would imagine the winky smile face next to his post indicates sarcasm. What's wrong with US is we can't take a joke.

well when the carriers stop hiring people with a GED equivilant..then maybe I will take time to learn about these airlines that hire these type of people...learn to spell jacka$$

Someone has been drinking rum again. I'm guessing it was Cruzan or Don Q and came from a duty free store in St. Thomas. Either way, I would love to eat my words later on, but that is just crazy. Cape Air will be flying 402's with refurbished wing straps in 2099 and the top 10% of the seniority list will still be flying them. :p

No way dude, they had to have been drinking Rinaldo or some other half-proof swill in order to dream up that kind of story.

If Cape Air gets bought up and is infused with a bunch of Qs, I will gladly celebrate the awesomeness of the event. But it's about as likely to happen as Drew Barrymore showing up in my office wearing only a fur coat, carrying a case of beer, and holding a note from my wife that says "have fun."

I highly doubt that Southwest would use turbo props as a feed. Back in 2005 when they provided loans to ATA and owned about 25% of them, Southwest started a code share with ATA. ATA had a subsidiary called Chicago Express that flew Saab 340s. Southwest refused to code share with Chicago Express based on the fact that they did not want to put their customers on Turbo Props. In fact after the deal went through with ATA, there were Southwest employees running the board at ATA; with in a couple of months Chicago Express was shut down even though it was a profitable airline.

If anything, Southwest might be shopping for a cheap certificate and once they get it, they will purchase new aircraft. If anything I see them buying EMB 175s or something of that nature. To the general public, a 175 looks like a mini 737.
