157 gone Feb. 16
Another 126 shortly thereafter
257 remaining at least till July 1

Is that 157 gone by Feb16th or will they still be here when the Jan4th parking takes place? And, will they get their retention and severance that DHL agreed to? Thanks for the update even if it is bad news. :(
 
First furlough effective Feb.16 (60 day notices coming tomorrow).
As of now, the company still is refusing to do the right thing and release the funds that DHL gave to the pilots for severance.

That's messed up, right there. With this job market, people are going to need that money to make ends meet. They best get that resolved prior to the 16th.

Good to hear you guys still have your 60 day notices. They took ours away and made it two weeks notice. That SUCKS! :mad:

Who would that be? You mean giving two week notice vs. the WARN law 60 day notice? If so, every ABX employee will now only get two weeks vs. the 60 days. It sounds like the pilots still have a 60 day notice. I don't doubt they try to get the pilots on the two week plan.
 
Now that I am talking about it...I am getting spooled up. Fair warning to 1224. They may try to get you guys to sign off on this two week deal. DON'T DO IT! It is a screwball deal that screws the employees out of 6 1/2 weeks of pay!

DHL paid the severance and I think they may try to screw that out of you like they did to us. It is WRONG to the Nth degree and if I had a legal leg to stand on. I can't believe they are pulling this crap....it disgusts me. :puke:

or else what. You will keep working all the way up to the doors close. Im sorry I would know what I would do, but I would have done that a long time ago.
 
Write your politician and ask them to get a hold of ole Joe and see what's the hold up with the severance.
With all the political pressure against the DHL thing, at least they could step in now and allow us to get the money DHL has already commited to spend!

Ummm, yeah. Thats the whole point. Because some bean counter decided that they would skirt the 60 day notice by way of a DHL paid severance. That decision will only allow 2 weeks rather than the 2 months the law allowed. This late in the game it is not a question of staying until the end, but when you will be advised your end date. What you think you would do is horsey sauce since you are not doing it.

Wait, how did they get around the 60 day rule? There are ways to get away with it, but you have to prove that the layoff was not foreseeable 60 days in advance.

What they are doing is saying the 60 day notice will run "concurrently" with your severance. So actually what they are doing is taking away 6 1/2 weeks of pay and paying it through your severance. Sure, you are not working for that 6 1/2 weeks, but if you were you would be getting your paycheck....then after 60 days your severance would have started.


EDIT: Let me rephrase that...they are taking away 6 1/2 weeks of work, and paying the legal requirement through DHL. DHL is not required to give us the 60 days, ABX is. But DHL is not required to give us severance either, but they are. So ABX does not have to pay by way of the DHL severance.

One of the above posts states that the first furlough is Feb 16. Thats actually the third. The new guys went out in October. (14 I think?) Thirty three of us go out on January 13. 14 + 33 + 157=204 by Feb 16.
 
WIll all ABX pilots hit the street, or is there talks of flying a few 767s in MIA for Lan Cargo or some such thing.?

Sorry to see this screw job, been there a few times myself..:(

Didnt mean to imply it was the "first" furlough. Just trying to clarify for shooter that the 157 was the first wave in the announcement made today followed by many more. Sorry for the confusion.

That is truly an artful dodge of responsibilty and corporate morals by ABX. Perhaps the affected workers need to do something similiar to those workers at the window factory in Chicago who were initially screwed by their company; yesterday all there demands were met, good for them!

Thanks guys. I wish there is something that can be done, but based off what I read it does not look like it. I hate to sound like sour grapes about it since we are getting a severance. But the idea of some bean counter knowing X number will be cut and not telling them until two weeks toward the end really gets under my skin. Even if it is because DHL does not know what they are doing should not be the fault of the workers and have DHL pony up for the 60 day notice. I am pretty sure my boss would tell us, if he only knew.

It's the right thing to do in my eyes. But what do I know?

EDIT: I think I will write a few letters. Even if it only makes me feel a little better.

Abx does not have the funds to release, DHL has not given the money to anybody until some sort of agreement is reached between the company and the union on how the money is paid out.
 
IT IS SEVERANCE, NOT A WAY TO BOLSTER YOUR BOTTOM LINE, JOE! YOUR MESSING WITH PEOPLES LIVES HERE!

We all started working for DHL at the exact same time. If you aren't going to be furloughed yet, then you still get it, because the money comes from DHL which is ending it's agreement with us, for the most part.
 
And why ABX feels it is even close to negotiate for severance is ridiculous, and childish.

This, more than anything I have ever seen from mgmt, typifies the mindset and type of operation ABX thinks they run, and re-doubles my belief in union representation.
 
for .20 a share, the union should by the darn company, fire Joe and pay out the severance. If they can make a go at it doing charter work all the better, but our biggest problem "no vision Joe" along with his equally vision challenged lower management would be gone. Imagine how much more instep the whole company would be with vested workers calling the shots, and not worried about their "bonus" check for this quarter. I know a pipe dream, I have heard all the reasons why it wont work. Of course the people who say it would not work all have a vested interest in keeping the status quo.................., now if we could only get a bailout for the cargo industry.
 
I completely agree. Unfortunately, our union leadership wants to make this a seniority issue and devide by years of service. They wants to decide what they think is best for us. Who represents who?

Have you listened/watched the archive of the meeting that took place thursday night? I would highly recommend it to all. Very informative. Answered many questions and raised a few new ones. 1:30 well spent.
 
Yep, still need to do that. My info is second hand at this point. Is it wrong? My understanding is the devision is based on yearly base. That is the same as years of service as long as you have taken first available upgrades. If it has to be voted on, why not have two or three choices. Just my opinion.
 
Yep, things have changed. A pretty clever solution overall. Once again there are still some questions and scenarios that need to be addressed but overall might not be bad.

Yep, your info is wrong. Listen to the audio of the gmm. Especially Z's rendition close to the end. Very well spoken and it gets my vote.
