i think the B747-400 could be around for quite some time. Some of the newer -400s were delivered around 1996 0r 1997 so they are still relatively new aircraft with lots of life left.

I think we will all be surprised at how quickly the 747-400s go away.

Prior to the merger that was the plan. 78s were going to take over most if not all pax flying with 400s converted to freight. Alot of the nrt slots the freighters use are dual use, however some of the china slots are freight only. The good thing about the 400 is you can get out of pvg nonstop to the lower 48 with a full load. No way on the 200. As a matter of fact, when heavy you sometimes have to do a 360 on the dept. to meet a crossing restriction on the sid just going to anc. Great flying on the freighter though, no pax or fas. Despite our disagreements on sli lets hope for all of us they don't disband cargo. Big airplanes are good for all of us.

I agree about the 777-300s. Had not thought about the possibility of converting the -400s to freighters. Would be a great way to keep us in the cargo business.

Airbus just released a report, "Lessons Learned from the 787." The wild part is, some of the documents in the report are labeled "Boeing Proprietary" and look like stuff Boeing would not have wanted in the general domain / blogsphere.

In other airplanes rumored to be NWA/Delta jets in the future, the Chinese have apparently backed out of the C Series as a result of the global economic downturn.

Who is 737pylt? I think you girls are obsessed.
OK, maybe I could be just like you. Join the rjdc sue the world, get rejected by most majors out there, and be stuck in a regional. Not to mention shabby background check. Oh yeah, and one more thing, don't forget the ever popular, date a fat chick!

Wow. Do any of you Delta guys actually want to claim this guy or is he just a MS Flightsim geek living in his mother's basement? Seriously, I'm curious. If this guy is seriously one of you guys then someone needs to rewrite the psych test.

I agree. Many of the major worldwide airlines have dedicated cargo operations. I think it tends to smooth out your revenue flow during good and bad times for passenger travel.

Classic. Its responses like this that make you NW girls have the reputation that you do in the idustry.
Keep em coming.
BTW, I'd say I was living in your basement, but you trailer doesn't come with one!

Dope,

Total time: 20000?
Yeah 20000 times you curse a day thanks to your tourettes.

Most pilots average 500 hrs/year during their career. Do the math liar.
Nice try shorty.

Mcdoosh:
What's the matter, PFT/flight instructor boards slow today?
Or is your myspace page not getting many replies?
Get ready for that UAL furlough, so sorry to hear about your job loss.

Dope,
I like how you respond to my posts when I write Dope.
At least you know who you are. A Dope.

FYI:

The two newest -400's have manufacture dates of March and April 2002. Four others have 1999 dates.

This according to the "aircraft fleet information" pamphlet dated April 2008.

And before anybody gets their panties in a twist, this is not a comment on the SLI proceedings whatsoever. Just adding some useless information to the useless SLI high school locker room-type brawls.

Atleast someone gets it...

I agree, I do not see the 400's going away for a few more years. They have a lot of life in them. The freighter conversion is a great way to keep em around. As many know, slots for freighter conversions are very tight world wide. With oil down for now, they will just find slots to do the conversions, but time is not of the essence.
The 300's will be showing up in the next couple of years. It appears that there will be some slots opening up on the 777 production line quite soon.....

.

I realized that I bad info. Thanks for making the correction. Does point out, however, there is a lot of life left in these aircraft and will at least be around until Delta can replace them with the B777, which will take some time.

Flight Times:
I met a guy with 48,000 hours. The highest time guy in my 1st mil flight school flight had 24,000.

Thats an average of 1000 hrs for 48 years.
Or 5 1/2 years of your life flying an airplane.

I agree, the B747-400s will go away or become freighters but the question is when will Delta have a real fleet of B777s to cover all of our flying. OUR flying now includes NWs large Pacific network as well as Delta's current routes. UAL has around 50 777s and 30 B747-400s. So my question....how many B777s will Delta have on the property after all orders have been delivered and when is that final delivery date of the last B777?

well, Delta evidently has N numbers reserved with the FAA for up to forty-five 777s. I would bet there will be enough new 777s to cover the 747 fleet. How many 747s do you have?

There are what 16 744's. Yep we have Forty-five N numbers reserved. Watch this, it may go to Fifty-two.

It is the calm before the storm.
