It's in reverse order of seniority meaning those that have joined the pilot ranks at that airline most recently are the first to go.

It depends on the pecking order.

At Delta seniority means nothing, it's done by ratios.

Seniority means everything. But your seniority is where you sit on the list. You can be at an airline 15 years, if you are the bottom guy you will get furloughed. Or you can be at an airline 5 years, and be 30% off the bottom and furlough free.

So how do you determine where you sit on the list at Delta. Is it:

A) The last four numbers of your SS#
B) Your date of birth in dd/mm format
C) The time it takes to sprint from the terminal to concourse E in ATL. Quickest time is most senior.
D) How many ounces of grits you can eat in one sitting. More ounces equals more seniority.

At NWA, we use a method called "Date of Hire." It's quite a simple method, Delta guys and gals. The way it works is the first day you show up for class is your "date of hire." Classes starting after yours are filled with fellow pilots who are more junior.

I think sometime back in the 1930's, NWA thought about having a Lutefisk eating contest to determine seniority but the non-Norwegians complained and in the end "Date of Hire" was determined to be the most fair.

FBN, taking a non NWA/DAL related post to baseless stupid bickering in only 6 posts. Great job.
