Looking at the seniority list.....

who's going to fly to Hawaii (not the mention all the new Hawaii flying starting this fall) with more than half of the current F/O's up in ANC furloughed? Unless they're sending all arctic flying to SEA.....

I hear that the MD guys are jamming up the training dept until at least Feb. so how do you back train ANC Capt's to the right seat to cover Hawaii?

I wasn't here when they actually sent out the letters on X-mas eve but wasn't the union in negotiations then as well?

Ive got a friend over there hired around sep 1996. Hes a jr captain right now out of SEA. Would he be safe from being bumped back to F.O. with 165 furloughs?

Coming from a bottom of the pack:

I just flew with a guy who said he figures he's gonna go until 62. He said he had a lot of work on his second house he wanted to get done.

He's lucky I'm not the Incredible Hulk.

Gee, maybe he'll let me live there until it's finished. That would be swell - after I lose my house.

I looked over the new published seniority list that came out this month, it looks as though about 1 in 3 are actually leaving when they turn 60, the other 2/3s sticking around.

Why do so many pilots demand the charity of senior pilots? "Lose your job so I can keep mine". "My lifestyle is more important than yours". "Perpetuate a ridiculous retirement rule so that I can be insulated from the effects of mismanagement or a poor economy".

Defending your own self absorption by pointing out another's is indefensible.

Maybe if you hear it one more time it will sink in.

There is nothing greedy or self-absorbed about wanting the EXACT SAME career advancement opportunities that you have enjoyed. Nothing more, nothing less. Just the same. Equality is the opposite of greed.
Greed and self absorption lie in taking the EXACT SAME opportunities you've enjoyed from your children for your own personal gain.

Defending your own self-absorption by throwing a guilt trip on the guy that's going to lose his house so you can buy more Viagra is what is indefensible here.

I do wish you the best of luck in your apparent dream of dying at work, though.

For the record, I am no where near 60. The whining about age 65 is more pathetic than the dork who serial porks F/As. All you idiots who voted for GWB, can thank yourselves for that which you are reaping. Get over the retirement thing, if you are less than 35, you have at least 3-4 furloughs from as many different companies, you will be furloughed for the second time before the age 65 guys retire. You all "love to fly" and the airlines know it, and will continue to cornhole you for that "love". You don't see garbage men complaining of increased retirement ages or SGTS(shiny garbage truck syndrome). Face it you are your own worst enemy.
Good luck, ya all are gonna need it!
PBR
P.S. Those garbage men will have more career earnings than all you career F/Os.

Why should they? Us junior guys just need to worry about ourselves. We cannot rely on the real senior guys to save the day for us.

Age 65 happened and it's water under the bridge. I don't begrudge any of them for wanting to stay a few more years. It's their choice.

You would probably stay around a couple more years if you were about 60 years old when the law changed.

If you're a junior pilot at any airline and haven't been looking for or working a side job, no better time than now. Put your other talents & experience to use.

You don't have to fly airplanes to put food on the table.

I wish all of us the best of luck.

Time for the over age 60 folks to step up to the plate?
