DAL:

Much better pay in the right seat. Second year 88 almost what widebody pay is at CAL. PBS that works, MUCH better bases, and all around better contract (work rules anyone??). Also much better commuter clause and jumpseat provisions if you do commute.


Much better bases? ATL, JFK, CVG, and SLC. CAL is IAH, EWR, GUM, and CLE. You think ATl is better than IAH? I have lived both places, and would take IAH over ATL any day of the week and twice on Sundays. EWR and JFK are how far apart? CVG may be a little better than CLE, and I will admit SLC is nice, but GUM beats any of them. Much better bases?
 
Here is my take on the situation. I have been on this website on and off since 1998. Usually it is people complaining here. I think most of you would complain no matter what.


I work for CAL and I can't imagine a better job. The hourly rate is ok and the work rules are ok. All you folks that say it sucks here must be working for a different airline. I have flown 220 hours this year sitting reserve in IAH, fly 5-10 days per month, except July I flew 12.

What is that bad? Most of the complaints I hear are from commuters. Remember, you commute by choice, CAL does not require you to commute.

Someone please enlighten me and I will respond accordingly.

Big F'n suprise when you say you are in IAH. You probably live in the Woodlands with the rest of the scabs and they helped skew your sight of the big picture regarding the rest of your co-workers. I will count you in for a "yes" vote with the 1st round of contract BS.
 
captains/training department in the right seat while fo's are being furloghed (spelling). a union that folds to management. 90+ hour lines while bidding 65%. great pay, and oh yeah... all while furloghing!!!! beats a regional but room for muuuuuch improvement.
 
and LAX. That's a pretty good base.

Oh yeah. I'd live in LAX right after I would live in ATL again, which will happen about when hell freezes over, and the sky is filled with squealing pigs.

Yeah, Houston is waaaaay better than Southern California. That's probably why the housing market is so strong out there in Houston. Glad you like the South. You can keep it.

The thing that makes CAL the worst major airline is SCABs and SCAB-WANNA-Bs like you. “The pay is okay”; “The work rules are okay”. That is SCAB-WANNA-B thinking! We are in contract negotiations and need to think bigger.

Schedules… The worst in the industry.
Bases… The worst in the industry.

CAL insurance and pay are below market wages for the average college grad. That's a problem.

I know you all are trying to fix that- I support you 100%- you've earned a better contract.
 
ask the new hires that pay for their medical benefits what they think.

Blame the union for that, not the airline. CAL mgt is only laughing their a$$es off at everything the union gave back to them, not because of what was "forced" on the pilot group by the suits in Houston.

Back to the subject at hand. As a 777 guy, I get 20 days off, but it feels more like 22+ when you live in base. PBS has worked for me 9 out of 10 times (even when I was on the 756). Everyone is going to have complaints - it is what you make out of it. Since this is my fourth airline, I can see that improvements need to be made, but there are a lot worse places to be. We are all kidding ourselves if we think we'll get rich doing this job any more...

Good........the sooner the better. You do nothing but whine and complain and probably do little other than jerking yourself off rather than make this a better place with union involvement and helping your peers.

There are about 148 pilots right now that would be happy to see you on your way. Put your money where your mouth is.

Do you have some examples to back any of this up, personal experience, or just hear-say and innuendo? Come on, back this post up with something.

CALALPA needs Neal S. to fill the spot on the NC. Chair the committee if at all possible.

is he a good ol' boy? is he too young? isn't he a newhire?

or is he a detail-oriented, page scorching, pilot revenue enhancing contract negotiator?

Neal brought XJT pilots a legacy-level type of contract. only now do i fully appreciate what he and his negotiators accomplished at XJT.

bring him in and give him the tools and manpower to raise our pilots to the level we deserve.

while we're at it...line Neal up with Jayson B., Tim B., Sherry Q, Chuck C., and the others who know how to force change.
 
I think the most accurate way to view CAL is as a start up airline since the 2nd BK. In that respect, we're doing OK.

Our biggest problem: Few at CALALPA know what it is like to "win". They can tell you all about how bad things can suck!! They've seen plenty of that. Unfortunately, too many at CALALPA think just because things aren't as bad as they used to be, that everything is going good.

We need Neal on the NC. Neal is a rainmaker. He's been to battle, and more importantly, he's won.

Add in there the rest of the XJT MEC that is now at CAL as well as the CALALPA SPC (both airlines) from the same time period and you now have Union leadership with, well, leadership. Good luck yall.


Not aiming this at you but, since he was mentioned, it is amazing how much flak Neal and the rest of the Express side of CALALPA got during negotiations. Now, he is recognized as the smartest guy in the room. Deservedly so.
