Now THAT'S funny. I have personally spoken with our legislative affairs chairman, at length, about what happened at the hearings. Suffice it to say there is A LOT more to the story than you are aware of, or willing to admit, and it is not even remotely as you and DALPA are trying to claim. Based on my conversation with him, YOU could call a couple of YOUR people and find out the real truth.....if they are OK with the embarrassment that is. I've had no real first hand info about many of the issues you have written about over the months.......but in this case I do.....and, lets just say it affords me a whole new perspective on your level of "uninformedness" and/or the true RPM of your spin cycle.

Who gives a sh*t about what happened at some Congressional hearings? The fact that one side puts out a paper and hotline complaining about it, forcing the other side to defend itself should have us all worried. What does it accomplish for either side? I have to ask though, are you happy that it seems your MEC has been focused on attacking DALPA for the last couple months? Did you not expect the DALPA guys to eventually defend themselves?

What we're seeing now is like watching Congress whine about who slighted who while the economy goes completely into the toilet. The time to lock in a joint contract is now. Things are getting worse in the industry by the day and much worse is on the horizon. I don't want either side wasting time on this BS and you shouldn't either.

Our MECs work for us. They need to get over the hurt feelings, act like men, and get to work for the benefit of the people they represent.

The fact is that we (all of us) need to force management's hand to commit to a mainline replacement for these DC9's. Both sides can throw out any numbers they want, but like it or not, it's a big issue for a large part of the combined group. I'm not interested in gaining leverage. I'm interested in keeping the jobs of everyone who's here now, and calming some of the uncertainty in this whole screwed up process.

The reps on both sides need to stop the childish attack-retaliation loop and start working on our behalf. There are many things that need to be in the joint contract but one of the key points, in my opinion, is to get language that ensures DC-9's will be replaced 1 for 1 by mainline aircraft.

*BINGO*

I expect lame analysis and infantile sniping from the trolls who infest this Forum,

This guy Occam really thinks a lot of himself. I would not want to fly with him, with his inflated ego times ten. Thank God I never will.

Great! Now everbody's gonna think this was staged!

Thanks for not disappointing me.

I am a Delta Pilot.

When can I bid the 747-400?

(LMAO!)

According to your own MEC....yes! A "cowardly liar".

No, because I provided a link to all the information.

You had, ahem, 17 pages of data to choose from, and you chose the absolute worst comparison, which just happened to be for an aircraft we don't operate.

Throughout this thread, while actually debating, not tossing around outrageous personal insults, I've pointed out other data not just that one, you just happened to conveniently hone in on it. I've also posted that NWA has done a good job of keeping its maintenance costs down on the DC-9 and that the ownership costs are low and that the merger will, IMO, give the aircraft a new lease on life.

All the information that I have discussed was made available for anyone who wanted to debate.

You however have been more busy tossing around insults and conducting a campaign of character attack. Your search for the boogey man and need to find somkeone to attack falls right in line with Varitas #2, your need to find a villian.

Funny, I've talked to our folks who were there too and the facts put out in Veritas is exactly what they are saying.

Just two quick questions.

Does your Legislative Affairs guy deny that DALPA acted to ensure that some of the seats that Delta reserved through line standers were offered to NWA pilots?

Does he deny that some Delta pilots gave up their place in line to some NWA pilots?

Damn Occam,

Did Mrs. Occam jump your ass about sumpin(using a little southern spellin) You are on a roll today. Lettin dem delta boys get to you like that. Btw, nice to finally meet you and the better half. And for the one's not wanting to fly with Occam, all I know is he has been a tireless volunteer and advocate for the nwa pilots since I have been here and for all our sakes will continue after we are a happy family.

Why waste your time responding to ******************** heads like detoilet 320! His constant spin is going to get us no where! Constant babbling is what keeps him going. He's just not happy unless he's miserable!
Guys like Occam & FDJ2 seem to have the real picture and are at least reasonable. Pricks like detiolet are just that, pricks! Leave him at his misery!

Figure 8 I believe is total cost per aircraft mile, which takes into account a variety of different costs, not just fuel. Nevertheless, as you pointed out, the MD88 has about 50% more capacity, but figure 8 only shows about 20% more cost to move 50% more seats. Keep in mind that's at much lower fuel costs than we have today. If you continue through the analysis, the author shows that with increasing fuel costs, the fuel inefficiencies of the DC-9 series really begin to catch up with them.

Excellent debate though. I appreciate your willingness to debate the data and abstain from personal attacks.

Yes, the author specifically states that the fuel will catch up with the DC-9 (but it will also catch up with the MD80). Bottom line is that this report is old, actually ancient by todays standard and events of the industry. It provides a nice overview. Thing is, the DC9 and MD80 really have different missions therefore they are tough to compare. We could just as well have the same argument over the DC9 and the 50 seat rj. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to delve further into the information presented. The orginal point I was trying to make (in a very obtuse way) is that you need to ask questions about the information presented, in order to determine the relativeness in the discussion. Similar to the veritas and non sense that is being published by the DALPA Elected officials.

Take care and I really hope that this can be worked out sooner rather than later so that we may all move on with our lives (either flying for our new company or back out on the street).

Yeah, you make good points, it is an old study, although I doubt that changes the fuel efficiency question. Nevertheless, time to move on. Thanks for the discussion and lets move on to creating a world class, truly global airline.:)

Absolutely agree with your last statement. Good luck to us all.

"veritas" isn't worthy to line my parakeet cage.

There was more SPIN in that rag than on the Tilt-A-Whirl at the county fair.

Stop drinking the Kool-Aid.....or you'll end up in Jonestown.

Face reality & examine your EGO.

Jonestown? In Guyana? Hey, we announced TODAY that we will be flying there from JFK. Thanks for noticing.....

Delta Air Lines Begins Nonstop Service From New York-JFK to Georgetown, Guyana

Thursday May 29, 9:48 am ET

NEW YORK, May 29, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL - News) launches nonstop service from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport to Georgetown, Guyana, Sunday, June 1, 2008, as part of its continued expansion in the South American continent.

Guyana is the third-smallest country on the mainland of South America and is situated on the Atlantic Ocean, north of the equator and east of Venezuela. As one of four countries in South America where Spanish is not the primary language, Guyana is culturally similar to English-speaking Caribbean countries.

``We continue to add destinations departing out of New York's JFK, expanding the worldwide reach of this growing Delta hub. In addition to flying now to Guyana, soon we will begin new nonstop service to Bogota, Colombia, increasing to 18 the number of destinations between JFK and Latin America and the Caribbean,'' said Christophe Didier, Delta's vice president of Sales and Government Affairs for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Delta's schedule between New York-JFK and Georgetown starting June 1:

Flight Departs Arrives Frequency* DL383 New York-JFK Georgetown Wednesday, at 1:10 a.m. at 7 a.m.

Friday, Sunday DL384 Georgetown New York-JFK Wednesday, at 9 a.m. at 2:45 p.m. Friday, Sunday *A weekly flight on Tuesdays will be added beginning on July 1.

I hear your DC9s may start some new service too----to Marana, AZ. Let's hope later on versus sooner...
And 320, did your negotiators start the whole process with "So, let's figure out which arbitrator we should use....." Did they? I thought so. They weren't prepared and they can't negotiate themselves out of a paper bag.....

Bye Bye--General Lee

When are you going to wake up and realize those DC9s are about to be DAL aircraft? Is it so funny then? They arent just going to be parked right away and you yourself have said that. Childish Dialect gets very old as i am sure you know.

Look, I don't want any planes parked, but we all KNOW that the DC9s are the next to go. I don't want our guys mixed up in that, sorry. IF they aren't parked soon, then BONUS. Admit it, you have some planes that aren't great during high gas----and that makes a bunch of us a little bit wary......

Our scope prevents them being parked without Mainline replacements unless 70 seaters are parked first. So if they are parked it would only be because the DAL scope language allows it. Plus both your MEC and our MEC has stated under a merged list we would be short of pilots either way right? lets stop the fight infighting and babble. Lets getter dun.

General-

So you got a new route.....BFD. And it's to a real garden spot too.

My point was that we don't believe everything we're told.... until it's proven to us. You guys soak up every word of "The Gospel according to Lee" without any regard for verification.

Apples & oranges.

It really worked well with your Jonestown comment. It was a classic, and ironic. And that route is probably more interesting than Fargo.

And I understand you don't believe everything you are told---probably because you are divided into a few groups---that hate each other. You needed 10 observers in your SLI negotiations---because you don't trust each other. That is bad. You won't trust anyone.

Bye Bye--General Lee

PS---Here is the original post again. Litterally, I could not have asked for a better lead in. Thanks 320AV8R! That was FANTASTIC.

Hey General-

Just because you believe it, doesn't make it true.

You need to examine your preconceived notions about us & our operation. Our balance sheet & operational efficiencies kicks your a$$. Get over yourself.

I think you need to re-read what you wrote above and say it to yourself also. Our guys are taking over and they will be making the decisions. If you have any questions, direct them to RA and Ed Bastain.

Wow General, at least you're humble about it.

You guys have cornered the "MAKE OTHER UNION MEMBERS FEEL LIKE SH!T" market. Good thing we're both in ALPA. I guess we're no better than Northeast, Western or Pan Am. Just like second class citizens in a Third World country. What class you guys have.....& I thought NWA Mgmt treated us like sh!t. Bravo.

We all realize that we are not, have never been, & never will be REAL DELTA PILOTS. It may surprise you, that most of us don't want to be Delta pilots. Being a REAL DELTA PILOT and about $6.00 will buy you a real good cup of coffee.

BTW, have you always been a LEGEND IN YOUR OWN MIND? Your ego is so big, it has its own zip code.

Yes, it is 90210. Anyway, come on now, you need to not be sooooo serious on this board. You might get an anurism. As far as how Deltoids treat Western and Pan Am guys, I have never seen any "bad" treatment. I have heard rumblings from the Western and Pan Am guys about how they got "screwed" in the merger, but they are telling me this while they are in the left seat of a 767-300ER going to Rome. I just don't feel that sorry for them. Most likely their airlines were going away, and they are now doing fairly well. Northwest may not be "going away", but together maybe we will be able to survive these down cycles and become a stronger airline. As far as unity goes, a lot of that will happen if you "let go" (Let go Luke, let go of your feelings LUKE....") of your distrust of everyone. Your different factions within NW are a lot worse than ours with Western and Pan Am. Really, you shouldn't throw stones---your own family is broken.

And Remember---this is an aviation forum that is informative and ENTERTAINING. Don't get wrapped around the axle.

General-

Really, you shouldn't throw stones---your own family is broken.

It's the byproduct of mergers. Different groups, fighting for what they want. Just like AWA / USAir. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. We don't put the fun in dysfunctional.....and we know it.

And Remember---this is an aviation forum that is informative and ENTERTAINING. Don't get wrapped around the axle.

I'm just trying to keep you honest. You state something as fact, when in reality it is not. I guess you might say I believe in accurate journalism.....not ENQUIRER stories. Not wrapped, just setting the record straight.

Then relax a bit and give me proof that I was wrong. That's all man. Sheesh. And, I am NOT trying to lie or pull one over on anyone. I give my own opinion, and if it is wrong then show me.
