At straight pay 6th year FO per trip is just under $120 I believe - you get no overrides and not that often any overage. So for 160K/$120 an hour/12 months = 111 trips per month. You say you had 17 days off a month so that's 13.5 working per month = about 8.5 trips per day. Seems very high - am I wrong? Just had dinner with a good friend - 9th year SW CA who said 7 trips per day is VERY GOOD and much higher than that is pretty tough. All the other numbers people post here I believe it just seems like the SW numbers never seem to add up and I only read about these numbers here - talk to anyone in person and they never seem to quite make that much (at least out of my 8-9 SW friends).

I think that your math is not accounting for vacations and a 9 year captain is pretty junior on the captain side, so maybe 7 trips per day seems normal to him but since our rig is 6.5 per day, he isn't flying very productive stuff. I'd guess that 7.5 per day is pretty doable with decent seniority.

Also not sure where SWA guys are getting their W-2 numbers yet, the website still just shows 2005 and 2006 for me.

not quite a 4th year FO.

Regular + JA + Sick + training + vacation = $115,000

I averaged 102 trips per month (inclusive of vacation/sick/training/JA).

would that be the FIT wages? if so, I'm dumber than I look, which is probably pretty dumb. for FIT wages I had 99,000. Which doesn't really make sense to me, are JA/vacation/training/sick pay not taxed?

I guess I wasn't going to call it W2 wages until I see my W2, but if FIT is federal income tax, then I guess my W2 should say 99,000.

Always wonder how these figures are compiled - is this straight pay or + per diem and + profit sharing?

The missing factor in your calculations is the rock-star seniority that 5-6 yr FOs enjoy here. Allows them to manipulate their schedules to have the best shot at trips that pay time-and-a-half.

7.0 Trips per day is what I consider on the poor end of a good average pay per day. When I try to pick up I am looking for 8.0 TFP per day. I don't VJA much (commuter) so I don't take advantage of the time and a half as much as some.

Dude - the 9 year CA was an 7 year FO two years ago - don't you think he has a pretty good idea what a senior FO can do?

143,891.21 3rd year FO for UPS

I flew 182 hours.

74,000 Delta "new contract pay" <--thank you alpa.. I am once again a believer. Sold the claim and got 60 cents on the dollar.... 44,000....

all together.....

187,991.21 for 2007

Not including B fund and 401K or sick buy back... A fund? yeah like we're ever gonna see any of that.... live and learn.

Sad thing is my buddy JUNIOR to me on the MD11 was at 210 for the year just from his earning statement..... d a m n.... I screwed up somewhere, but flying rubber dog sh!t in the middle of the night aint that bad.......

Okay, I figured out why my income last year was 115,000 but my taxable is 99,000. my 401k that I maxed. Duh.

so, since FDX/UPS/AAL have pensions, they don't need to max a 401k to be able to afford groceries at age 65, thus the 102,000 is more correct for my earnings. sorry for any confusion.

Uh, Dude...I was a 6 year FO two years ago. I think I too have a pretty good idea what a senior FO can do around here.:smash:

Would the almighty General like to chip in? What does a big, bad international 7-6 driver make these days while they eat zebra meat in far-off, romantic, and desireable destinations?

he's indisposed. posting as one of his 4 other screen names.

in any case, he will never give you the satisfaction of posting his earnings. he's big on talk and low on results.

Alaska 5/6 year FO.
Full schedule: $86600
I can't break it down because our wonderful payroll system hides all previous YTD info after the first of the year. I think profit sharing was about 500 bucks.
It's dark down here in the bottom of the pool.

Believe it or not $88K (gross) as a lowly Dash 8 driver. Then again our company paid us triple our pay rate at times to pick up overtime due to short staffing....... just can't wait for that $50k pay cut to go work for mainline!

Haven't gotten the W2 yet, but if I recall my last paystub correctly (probably not, but this is close) I grossed about $42,000 including per-diem from Jan 1-Thanksgiving as a 2nd year FO at Air Wisconsin.

Averaged 14 days (including 3/4 of all weekend days) off per month.

SWA F/O 2007

9 months 1st yr pay + 3 months 2nd yr pay = 86K

Gross + Per diem

Flew my azz off :pimp:

the YTD totals on my 12/31/07 stub so: (rounded to nearest 100th), CA 4th year pay

gross: 84,500
fit taxable: 63,900
taxes: 18,500 (fed/state/ss/employ med)
deductions:13,300(401k/union dues/group life/health/short disa) of the deductions 10,800 was into the 401k.
net pay: 52,800

other numbers:

per diem: 7900
vacation: 3400 (gross) - cashed out 50 hours because i could only carry over so much of my balance per our contract.

flew close to 900 hours, worked extra day(s) after they opened PHL and I couldn't hold it because it got me trips out of home when I would have been commuting in the first place - otherwise I would have taken the days off.

Airtran Airways Reserve B717 Captain
4 months 3rd Year Pay ($106)/8 months 4th year Pay ($112)

867 Block Hours Flown
1319 Pay Hours Credited

Flight Pay = $145,000
Per Diem = $5,100
B-Fund = $15,000
Total = $165,100

Never left the Eastern/Central Time Zones. One of the better paying RJ jobs out there.

For the Trannies trying to put numbers on what todays reserve system pays versus a traditional reserve system pays, scheduling didn't not use me on 25 reserve days (from April-Dec). Those 25 reserves days paid 87.5 hours soft time (or about 6.7% of total pay). January and February were IOE months and March was a green line.

  • $21,334.81
  • First year customer service agent/ramp rat for a regional airline. Above pay includes nothing but hourly pay, i.e, no 401k, etc. included.
  • Did not pick up any overtime, except for when I had to (waiting on a delayed flight, etc).
  • Clocked out early many times, when able, obviously w/o pay.
  • Just received a pay raise, which means with picking up some overtime, I could make $30K+ this year (2008), if I wanted, while still having 2-3 days off per week, and 3 weeks of vacation.
  • Heard of some guys at my station, at the top of the scale, working overtime, and making $50K, with 6 weeks of vacation.
Just goes to show that regional pilots really need to start getting some better contracts, and major pilots too, for that matter. It is sad when the guy loading the bags is making as much, or more than you. I work for just a regional airline, which means guys working for major airlines, in my position, are making more. I've heard of guys, at the top of the scale, working for the major that the regional I work for is contracted with, making $60-$70K, by picking up a some overtime each week.
