Kinda sorta. The union and company have been in negotiations for a while now, and will be presenting a package for the pilot group to vote on. Among the changes will be a list of 100 crew bases (versus the 5 domiciles we have now), which were listed in this thread.

The package will be presented to the pilots on October 1st, and we'll be voting on it about a month later, I believe.

NJA pilots have no reliable means of commuting about the country to and from work.

NJA has no real "hubs" or "bases" in the truest airline sense of the word.

NJA has no real schedule, per se, dictating that a certain type of plane will pass through from XYZ-PDQ at 10am M-F.

As such, NJA has a unique problem in positioning crews that they have solved by using planes, trains and automobiles to get crews into position with a plane.

NJ management has tried to control costs (in this time of record profits for NetJets) a bit too bluntly by restricting the pilot domiciles for newhires to the number 5. In doing so, they overshot the mark a bit and turn many qualified applicants away due to the restricted basing program.

I know... I'll hear the rhetoric that NJA has "no shortage of applicants to work for this fine institution" but the FACT is that if we are not attracting and retaining the finest of the pilot pool available out there then we just aren't attracting the pilots most sought after. I'm not saying the pilots we're getting are bad so please don't get offended.

Pilots on property in the fall of 2005, meanwhile, continued to live in 200+ cities called HBAs.

How does NJ management continue to ratchet on costs yet deal with the cernain uncertainty of the Frax business?? IBB.

Problem for the pilot group... how do we allow 2 factions of pilots to be in one seniority list (Restricted HBAs/Crew Base) and NOT think that it won't come back to bite us in the ass... again?

No, NJA does not want to go back to the 25 base model. Not that anyone I've talked to has heard.

The magic number is 100, but 100 is a dirty number so far (dirt in the details).

Wait until early October to get a better read on what's potentially happening with basing at NJA. That's when we'll have a proposal containing all of the possible changes, including basing.

The HBA issue is far from the problem at this point. So many rules will be changed that people are going to be able to vote against the proposal based on a host of issues.

Yes, I'd like the post-rat guys to be able to fly from airports closer to their homes but I am not willing to give up certain work rules I voted for under our current contract.

This process seems to have gotten way out of hand.

This isn't an amendment to the current contract, its practically a total re-write.

It's amazing how large this IBB thing has grown. It's almost like Lay's potato chips: betcha can't re-write just one section.

Honestly, I really can't believe that our MEC and negotiating team would put something out for a vote with money "TBD at a later date". But the MEC is hosting meetings in CMH every Wednesday for the rest of the IBB period. If you can't attend one of those sessions in person, perhaps someone can ask the question for you and relay the answer.

As for waiting and reviewing the final document, those are indeed wise words. I hope most, if not all, of our co-workers will take that approach.

Hey ski I've seen Do-82 do more windows than you can imagine.

The `100 is a bandaid fix on something that the company can fix right now but they are choosing not to. Remember the company can add domiciles today if they want to.

So we should give something up for something they can do allready? How is this a win/win? Post HBA guys should be fighting just as hard as the rest of us for HBA's for all.

Obviously the company knows there is a domicile program. I'd bet that if this gets voted down magically the company ITSELF opens 100 gateways out of good faith. The pressure they have to find good qualified pilots who can make it through a rigorous training program is tough.

DO, in private phone conversations, you mentioned that you company seemed to have troubles with newbies not understanding the teamwork and customer service that goes with flying owners.
Seems this guy just validated your points,,,big time.

They could, but they could also open up maybe 30 or 40 domiciles, strategically placed, and a lot of guys would lose their HBA (90-milers). It's in our contract, the company can do that any time they want.

"Me" generation??? You guys are the ones trying to keep the 5 domiciles so that some of you can live in Billings, Montana or Durango, Colorado. But dont want a guy from Atlanta to fly out of Atlanta. It sounds like you are part of the "me" generation.

I have looked in my FOM for where it says I must vacuum the carpet, I cant find anything. Can you tell me what page it is on?

But in reallity, we shouldnt be a yes or no vote until the final document is out. But we should have an open mind to change and improvement.

I was talking to one of the pilots that does interviews for NJs (he interviewed me). He said that they are not having any problem getting quality pilots. The only problem is training slots at Flight Safety. The Domiciles do not appear to be a problem for the company. They are done interviewing for this year.
