Just wanted to know when will USAir hire again? Flew for one of the express carriers years ago. Currently flying jets of the west coast for a charter company. Anyone with a timeline? would greatly appreciate that.

Coming.

I would also call it US Airways on your resume.

BTW... been there, done that... you can have my T-Shirt.

Ironic that they actually did give us tee shirts at the end of indoc.

Guys, it's just a forum. I've made A's and B's in high school and college for English/Literature courses. I don't have to be proper here. + spell check is available to me if I miss something. But thanks for you info.

Furlough list is pretty much exhausted, former AWA pool- ies were called and are sitting in EM190 class as we speak. (Just came back from the training center and saw them sitting in indoc with myown 2 eyes for allyou doubting Thomas' out there). Spoke with one of our asst Chief Pilots this past Saturday and they are waiting on approval to hire 420 total (both east and west) for calendar year 2008. That's the good news. The bad news is I think the USAir culture is going to prevail going forward;ie it's gonna be a miserable place to work. I strongly recommend that you think twice about working here, especially now that Delta United Northwest and Continental are all taking applications again. There is a lot of ill-will and hard feelings starting to fester below the surface which will probably take years to overcome,if at all .

So, even though AWA poolies are currently sitting in E190 class for the East, newbies will be hired for the West in the future... Will the AWA poolies be able to bid back to the West if they prefer that in the near term or will they be trapped in the East? Flying that E190 out of delay-heavy and screwy PHL for such low pay each and every day would be terrible IMO... PHL airport sucks!!!!!

If I were an AWA poolie, I'd much prefer a 737 or Airbus seat out of PHX or LAS rather than the E190 out of PHL any day.

Not too sure, but if I had to venture a guess I kind of doubt it and here's why. These guys (and one gal) were original AWA poolies waiting for a class date with AWA in PHX. Most of them live out west. But with the poor furlough recall rate on the east side, additional 190's on the way, and nobody back east bidding the vacant F/O seats (and rightly so), they offered class dates to the poolies with the understanding that it would be for the EM 190 out of PHL. I'm not sure what the seatlock is on the airplane, but I do know they were placed on the east senority list and not ours. Now keep in mind ,we are basically one airline operating with 2 pilot seniority lists. (Thank you, Mr. Prater, may I have another Mr. Prater?? ) With them being placed on the east senority list, and with the easties going out of the way to keep the operations seperate, then they have no chance of getting back to PHX as the situation currently exists. If by some fluke,we move beyond this current logjam ,get a joint contract and with them being placed on the east senority list ,they will be so far down the seniority totem pole that it would take years for them to hold anything in PHX, provided any positions become available for bid. Not good if you were hoping to be PHX based any time soon.On the plus side, they'll have access to an endless supply of Philly Cheese Steak Sandwiches once the "culture shock" of living there wears off!!;)

I hate riding on them in the back. Crappy service, crappy planes, late all the time, flights cancel, lucky to see my bag when I get there.

Why in the world would you want to work there?

You pretty much just summed up every airline out there. Except maybe Southwest.:(

In retread school now. They said hiring might take place in OCT. Will hire around 300 depending on how many return in the last two recall classes which take place in SEPT and OCT. They said there is 540 pilots remaining on the APL list. Figure only 10% will return.

GOOD LUCK!

Just curious and not trying to be flip, but what would the project upgrade time be for a newhire at USAirways? Can anyone estimate it?

Milo,
How many were in your class?

Well, if I use some of the same optimistic thought patterns some must use to consider hiring on to the "new" US Airways today as a newhire...

If you get hired on at age 10, upgrade looks pretty promising around 35.

Based on age 60 you're probably looking at about 8ish years for a 73 but probably considerably less for the 190. Of course 65 is coming so plan on closer to 12 for the 73 IMO.

You never know, but the 99 hires are very close to the 88 hires due to low number of returns from furlough. Adding internationally and very high retirements, I'd say 6 years( add 3 yrs if 65 goes thru. But...you never can tell in this biz.

Not when all us westies senior to you 99 and 88's take all the upgrades in PHL...we are senior you know

Yes Abe, you guys are senior, but I'd say that any westie that would leave the pretty girls in PHX for a couple of extra bucks in PHL would need their head examined

Exactly my point....The flood gates will not open for Westies going East...Most of us work at America West because we like Phoenix and want to be domiciled out West! I only know a small handfull of people who want to go back out East.

and btw...there are a bunch of hotties in clt too my friend :)

I know things are screwed up now(seniority, lack of joint contract, etc...) However, When(?) things settle down, you've got a massive amount of people retiring in the East. I think that you have a "geographical fence" somewhat protecting the East coast positions, I sure would not commute x-country and alot guys are not going to give up the southwest.

Big Risk....but it could(?) work out nice for some folks.

Your talking about pilots here. Majority of them chase the $$$$$. I've seen guys commute from alaska and hawaii for a crappy non-sked freight dog job out of miami.

So your trying to say that an f/o out west won't look at going east if they can upgrade 2-5 years sooner??? for what. 30k more/year or so???

Don't know and we may never find out

I guess if you're from the east it's hard to understand but few confirmend west-coast guys are going to move to any of the usair domiciles; not for 30k. It would be sort of like asking an east coast guy if he'd take an extra 30k to move to Greenland.

The Boeings won't be around here in 12 years.

A good deal of those retirements though are from FO's(senior pilot group) and pilots out on medical. There are a lot of retirements, but not as many as the Easties would have you believe.

You know, you keep throwing out that blanket comment. How about putting up some numbers. From just glancing at the list. about 90% of our capts will be retired within 7 years or so. That's a litttle over 1600 or so capt positions gone. And well with the seniority as you want to have merged, those positions will go to the west guys, and then YES, the majority of US retirements will be f/o's as they were denied the ability to fill those vacancies from the capt's above.

So please, List how many capts retire in the next 5 years, and how many f/o's...

Counting real quick. In the next 5 years. US has 800 or so Capts retire. Around maybe 100 f/o's retire.

West side has, somewhere less than 400 Capts retire. And a handful of f/o's.

So how is 100 f/o's more retirements than 800 capts?
